  Wed. 8/18/10 9:42pm Steve:

Mike - Got that incredible Ubu box set. I also have the Tripod Jimmie LP with Autum Leaves on it. All I can add is it was the Tom guy. I forget his last name and am too lazy to get off this chair to find out.
  Wed. 8/18/10 9:43pm Drummer Some:

Howdy from Pittsburgh, Miguel. Great hearing yinz all der way over to here!
  Wed. 8/18/10 9:43pm Steve:

Otherwise...keep the set going. I'm stuck here in Florid-Duh and this is the way radio oughta be.
  Wed. 8/18/10 9:52pm lupica:

Thanks, y'all. It's an honor to sit in for Evan. (The man is NYC radio royalty, after all.) Feels great to be back!
  Wed. 8/18/10 10:07pm Ken Katkin:

"Lisa Smokes Pot"? I located three versions of this song last week, but only Jon Solomon has the two recordings of it by the Volatile Molecules!
  Wed. 8/18/10 10:09pm Ken Katkin:

I'm listening to you, but I'll bet Jon S played one of the VM's versions of the same song tonight. It's Ben Hamurger Xavier night in the Garden State!
  Wed. 8/18/10 10:13pm holland oats:

just got back from o'ahu, waah!
  Wed. 8/18/10 10:25pm Ken Katkin:

You had everything right, Mike. But since you asked me to fill in the blanks: Ben Hamburger wrote "Lisa Smokes Pot" in the early 1980s, when he was a student at Walt Whitman H.S. in Bethesda MD. He recorded it with his high school band the Volatile Molecules. Then, he matriculated at Princeton University, where he formed a new band, Horton's Wrath, with whom he re-recorded "Lisa Smokes Pot." The song was played a lot on WPRB in the 1980s, not least because the titular "Lisa" *also* matriculated at Princeton University, actually a year or two before Ben did. When Ben graduated from college, he legally changed his name from Ben Hamburger to Ben Xavier. Lisa is now a professor at an Ivy League university.
  Wed. 8/18/10 10:31pm lupica:

Awesome! Thanks, ken!
  Wed. 8/18/10 10:31pm Irwin:

  Wed. 8/18/10 11:14pm lupica:

A listener just called and told me that the name of the other guy from Soundgarden is "Yom Kippur". Can anyone confirm this?
  Wed. 8/18/10 11:16pm jeff-m:

Damn man, this Mahalia Jackson song is sweet.
  Wed. 8/18/10 11:18pm dave:

what jeff-m said. that just became my very favoritest version of 'summertime'
  Wed. 8/18/10 11:19pm lupica:

That version of Summertime comes to you courtesy of one of Doug Schulkind's old premiums.
  Wed. 8/18/10 11:21pm C:

you could always wear a cassette around your neck to draw attention away from the thumb drive.
Wed. 8/18/10 11:25pm Tom ( The Bactrian Support Network ):

ahhhh COOL !!! it's LUUUUUUPICAAAAAAAAA !!! great hearing your show again !!!
  Wed. 8/18/10 11:25pm Ken Katkin:

Wow, Laughner! Though on further reflection I think that the version of "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that appeared on the unreleased cassette might actually be the same recording that later appeared on the "Take The Guitar Player For A Ride" release on Tim/Kerr in 1993. But it still rules! As does this Big Blood track, which I've never heard before.
  Wed. 8/18/10 11:30pm oldindiantim:

wow - Big Blood is amazing! never heard of this person
  Wed. 8/18/10 11:32pm lupica:

  Sat. 8/21/10 1:14am Kramer:

Tripod Jimmy's Autumn Leaves sounded to me like they were channeling PIL ... in a good way. Which was not uncommon for alt music from the late 70's and early 80's.
Welcome back Lupica. Really enjoyed the show.
