A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I cold brew iced coffee every day! It is so great! I use a French press, so the straining is really easy. And my expert coffee sources tell me that in a small batch of that size only needs to sit for about 3 hours. The results are good!
|
Thu. 8/5/10 9:48am
Mike East:
Really? room temperature or in the fridge?
|
Thu. 8/5/10 9:50am

iced is my coffee preference too. It's amazing how dunkin' donuts coffee can't stand up to the ice. Starbucks is the goods. Or home brewed Papua New Guinea is really livin'

my iced coffee mostly consists of the stuff I don't finish in the morning sitting in the fridge until I can season it the next day with cream and sugar. I use this coffee this Ethiopian dude imports and sells out of an old guard shack in an office complex.
|
Thu. 8/5/10 10:10am

Wolfman Jack was wonderful in American Graffiti. I still see him sitting alone at the radio station eating popsicles because the freezer broke.

Thu. 8/5/10 11:12am
listener james from westwood:
@annie: Firefox problems w/ the playlist, or in general? In general, I find Firefox 3.x for Mac less stable than 2.x; especially when I try to print PDFs from it. Much more prone to crash.
|

JK: I came acrossa John Cooper Clarke poem called Tom Jones. "Back in town in a black Rolls Royce The funky, hunky housewives choice In one fact he can rejoice His trousers don't affect his voice"
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:16am
Cecile:
I liked tom better with the Art of Noise. He's soulful, but he's no roots artist. He's like processed cheese in the best possible way.

annie:
they just installed some new updates to my rss feed and ever since then, i've been experiencing hesitation issues and the browser window shutting unexpectedly or just crashing.. i use chrome for fmu...i use firefox for things which i do not want on chrome. email, web browsing, etc.

Thu. 8/5/10 11:19am
annie:
oh, speaking of soul, i attended a small weekly open mike at the local pub .... the talent lacked soul.. to say the least.. and the majority of the performers were singing from sheets of lyrics and chord settings.. pretty sad..

hello all... nice to hear the frogs/chirping Trouble.

depilatrix:
YES TOM JONES IS THE BOMB!!!
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:23am
Cecile:
It needs about three more choirs and strings. And a bagpipe. So it can keep up with the massiveness that is Tom.
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:23am
Mike East:
Open mics can be depressing - both participating and being in the audience. Depends on the scene, though
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:23am
Jennique:
I think there are just a few people out there who would agree that Tom Jones is the bomb. Mostly female.
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:25am
fishmonkeystew:
Hey Annie! Does you local open mike allow cover songs? At least one of our local cafes claims that they can't allow cover songs because they have to pay royalties.
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:25am

Don't read Katie Roiphe. She only gets it about 6% of the time.

Trouble, I bought the entire series of Mad Men on iTunes, so it downloads the next day on Monday. I can't handle waiting for the season to end to get them on dvd. And I agree with your comment about messiness. I watch the show to travel in time back to the 60s and thank my stars I was born later on and without birth defects!
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:28am
Cecile:
I love the Netflix for the Wii
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:29am
Cecile:
I don't watch Mad Men because I don't want to travel back in time to that part of the 60s. I'm all about the RuPaul's Drag U.
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:29am
cheri pi:
I'm hearing some nice flesheaters' influences here.
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:30am
listener james from westwood:
Sans cable for the past decade, Netflix enabled my 30 Rock, Deadwood, and Mad Men catch-up binges with aplomb. I too have also supplemented w./ PBS docs. But I've also gotten the season pass for MM Season 4 on iTunes, with the goal of wiring the Mac laptop to the TV somehow when all is said and done.
|
Thu. 8/5/10 11:31am

FMS- well.... let's just say that there were two songs performed out of the twenty or so that were original. the majority were old standard rock and roll and country western junk, badly performed.. :( free admission, though...

I was eating a nice spicy buffet at Baba Hut, an Andhra Indian hole-in-the-wall in JC, and they put on the TV to a music video channel. Unexpectedly it was a French pop music videos. And they were pretty good. Made me think of Trouble's show.

Of course they are Stu. Trouble knows this but I met her in Stockmann's once. She signed a copy of Moominvalley in November for me; "Adrian spelled like Adrian Mole?" One of my most prized possessions.
