Sounds from the archive of the future, sonic drilling into the past, dissonant rumbling, lyrical melodies, noises (human, animal, mechanical, digital) inscrutable yet honest, desultory but consistent.

Morning David! Where did everybody go?
|
Fri. 7/30/10 9:52am
Mike East:
I'm here. Slowly starting the day and ending the week. Nice choices this morning, David
|
Fri. 7/30/10 9:55am
David:
Oh, great. Everyone's knocked out loaded.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:06am
Cecile:
I'm here, but I"m in a dark place right now. Trying not to spill my crankiness over to the board.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:16am
Cecile:
what are everyone's weekend plans?
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:18am
BW:
Using new iPhone app! Rock out doron and crew!
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:19am
Cecile:
Say what you will about Ikea, but they're the only place where I could afford to buy kitchen storage.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:20am
Mike East:
I think I may go see Winters Bone tomorrow. Open to other movie suggestions. Anybody see anything good lately?
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:23am
Cecile:
I loved Despicable Me. It was very silly. In that lowbrow mode, I"m going to see Dinner For Schmucks with some girlfriends on Sunday. I have to see Jemaine Clement as the crazy artist. The clips are amazing.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:25am
Hallock Hill:
New iPhone app with comments, playlists, etc. Amazing!
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:27am
Mike East:
I just read the article about Steve Carell in the New Yorker. I would like to see that, too. Despicable Me got mixed reviews from my niece and nephew...she liked it, he wasn't as impressed.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:31am
Cecile:
Nice! The Ex. Nice. I heard the acting makes it. So I'm gonna see it.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:34am
Bad Ronald:
My kids dug it... Here's a funny interview w/Steve and Zach: http://tinyurl.com/stevezach
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:36am
Cecile:
There's some viral video from Kieran Vollard, Clement's character, on Funny or Die. It's hysterical. And he UNDERPLAYS the character. It's quite hilarious.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:37am
efd:
Echoing the upgraded iPhone app praise - love all the new features (including comments)! Great show, David, as usual!
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:37am
Denise in Washington, DC:
I saw Winter's Bone a few weeks ago. It was excellent, but wouldn't improve Cecile's mood any.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:37am
Scott W:
Despicable Me put my 5-yr old kid and me both asleep. But we both love The Ex and David S.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:38am
Denise in Washington, DC:
BTW, morning, all. My first time listening on a Friday.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:39am
Carmichael:
Good mornig/day/evening/nonspecific Internet time, everyone. Last work day before 2 weeks of vay-cay-shun.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:40am
Denise in Washington, DC:
What are you doing for your vay-cay, Carmichael?
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:41am
Carmichael:
A week at Lake Tahoe, followed by a week of utter laziness and ease.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:43am
Cecile:
Aw, Scott, you didn't even like the minions?
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:44am
Cecile:
Oh! Scott, my husband says that Heroclix (a superhero game with tiny action figures) is making an all Eddie-from-Iron-Maiden edition. Eight figures to state. I can get the info from him...
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:47am
seang:
Hey Cecile, did you see Jemaine in Gentlemen Broncos? hilarious!
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:49am
Cecile:
I have the movie, I havent' watched it yet, but I watched the Chevalier viral videos which are hilarious. He was also great in this little NZ film called Eagle vs. Shark, and as a puffed martial artist in Tongan Ninja. Yeah, I follow him a little bit closely...:/
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:51am
Cecile:
puffed-up martial artist
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:53am
Mike East:
Eagle vs. Shark was pretty great.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:55am
Cecile:
I think so! I can't wait until Taika Waitit's next movie, Boy, gets over here. It's the story of a little Maori town in the mid-80s under the spell of Michael Jackson, as well as a whole bunch of other stuff.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 10:55am
Cecile:
Waititi | |
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:00am
Cecile:
David, do you have any Melt-Banana around?
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:03am
Mike East:
My computer speakers came! Thanks Amy, if you're out there! WFMU, IN STEREO - what a concept.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:03am
Cecile:
that was fast! | |
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:04am
Carmichael:
Holy Cow, Mike. That was fast! Did you order them same day delivery??
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:05am
Mike East:
No - Listener Amy sent them to me from D.C. She must have gotten them in the mail as soon as I sent her the address.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:07am
Mike East:
...and she packed them up in an Orioles shirt. Free speakers, free shirt, shipped on my boss' dime (shhh.)
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:12am
Carmichael:
Sweet, Mike! and Nick Cave!
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:13am
Cecile:
Now play Ratt's Wanted Man.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:13am
Ken:

|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:14am
Cecile:
Mike that is awesome and almost restores my faith in humanity. My faith will be completely restored if David plays one of my requests. :D
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:15am
Denise in Washington, DC:
Damn. I missed the Yoko Ono piece because my office is requiring me to do actual work.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:15am

|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:32am
Denise in Washington, DC:
This news about the app is going to inspire me to listen to 'FMU more often on my iPhone. The Commenter Community has been a huge part of the station for me.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:33am
Denise in Washington, DC:
Does anybody know if the new version of the app allows you to download FMU podcasts and listen offline? AT&T doesn't work in the underground parts of the DC Metro system, which of course is where most of my commute takes place.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:39am
Carmichael:
Off to meetings for the day. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. Thanks for the tuneage and comments, David.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:39am
Mike East:
I download FMU podcasts just straight from the Itunes store (I have an Ipod touch so I need WiFi for it to work).
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:39am
Denise in Washington, DC:
Have a great vaca, Carm!
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:40am
Denise in Washington, DC:
Guess I should try that, Mike -- thanks.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:42am
Denise in Washington, DC:
Re: the Ballet Mecanique: the National Gallery here in DC commissioned a computer-driven robotic ensemble to play it as part of the Dada exhibit in 2006. Unfortunately, I never got to hear the whole thing, but it was fascinating. Thanks for playing that interview excerpt, David.
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:44am
David:
There have been several performances of the Ballet Mec. in recent years, speaheaeded by Paul Lehrman. Lots of great info: http://www.antheil.org/
|
Fri. 7/30/10 11:47am

Funny, Cecile, I was just thinking about Melt Banana earlier today...
