A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Morning Trouble and all. Great news: after 11 months unemployed I have been offered a job this morning so this will be the last chance I get to hear you live. This station, your show and Mr Drummer have kept me sane over what has been a difficult time for me... I couldn't donate last time you were raising funds but will send over some cash when I get my first pay check! Cheers Trouble!

Thanks Trouble, NGH and Tom, the dole is no fun but at least the lady I used to deal with treated me like a human being! I might buy her some sweets and a knitting magazine (she likes knitting). Hope things work out NGH - gonna crack open a beer and enjoy the show!

Good morning Trouble! I saw some posts this week that made me think of you. First off is my re-discovery of Pierre Henry and Michel Colombier. I had listened to them in the early 90s and forgotten their zippy moog tunes. Here's a link to a wonderful 1960s fashion show on a Bateau-Mouche with their music in the background: http://www.boingboing.net/2010/07/22/fashion-trippy-mid-s.html Next off is "the king" Chris Christie deriding the Mtv show Jersey Shore. http://www.thedailybeast.com/video/item/this-week-chris-christie-on-snooki/

I think this may be the tragic day when my speakers die on me for good. As much as it pains me, I may need to buy new speakers for my work computer...I don't hold out much hope for my boss replacing these just so I can listen to the radio all day. Anyone know where I can get some good cheap computer speakers?
|
Thu. 7/29/10 10:06am

good morning jennique! those sound fab! can't wait to see them both, obviously for 2 different reasons...

neato, i love how that works!
|
Thu. 7/29/10 10:13am
Alex:
@ Mike East You can get the little JBL Duet speakers for about $50 well spent. Anything cheaper sounds like tin usually. They are the best cheap speakers I've found.
|
Thu. 7/29/10 10:13am
Mike East:
That'd be amazing! Email me. I'll give you an address and a UPS acct number. dictatoreast@gmail.com
|
Thu. 7/29/10 10:16am

Alex - I'd think about getting those for my home. Spending 50 bucks at work makes me feel like I'm paying my boss for workplace improvements.

W/in the last year, i've curbed two pairs of computer speakers I found while cleaning out my apartment, one pair had never been used. If you're in the NYC area, this is the time to check for free stuff that's been curbed. I just found a stash of records and a nice table yesterday.

Oh I have to agree with the seasonal theme there Trouble. I have memories of going to see dragstrip races in San Jose, California in the summer. Sea of Love is a great one too, despite that movie with Ellen Barkin and Al Pacino.

giving some props to an album i picked-up this week - Hush Arbors, Yankee Reality (ecstatic peace, 2008) - first heard of this band when Ben Walker played its best track, "One Way Ticket" (easily in my top 25) - i am really mesmerized by this album - a to z - and consider the frontman (Keith Wood) truly brilliant - like approaching Reid, Byrne, Yorke brilliant - also wondering if anyone else knows anything about this band - very little about it online

what a great song this is...
|
Thu. 7/29/10 11:16am
Jennique:
In my mind, this is the ONLY version of the song that matters. I love Stephens lyrics so much more than the original.
|
Thu. 7/29/10 11:17am

It is a good song, HOWEVER... "...where dreams are made of"? That kind of sucks.

@vk: go to the Allmusic site and look up Hush Arbors. There's a lot of info under each album (though there's not a formal group bio).

Mike East:
@? - That is a fantastic point. That makes absolutely no sense.
|
Thu. 7/29/10 11:22am
Andrew (?):
Yeah. Always kind of bugs me because it makes an otherwise great song seem incredibly dumb.
|
Thu. 7/29/10 11:25am
Mike East:
Yeah. It seems like there's enough ways to make that lyric make sense. It isn't even completing a rhyme, which is sometimes forgivable.
|
Thu. 7/29/10 11:27am
trouble:
ken, i have an mp3 of it, from a bloggggg
