  9:16am Lizardner Dave:

How aboot "Bastille Day" for all us Rush Reptiles in the crowd?
  9:17am annie:

are we there yet?
  9:18am still b/p:

An off-duty winged monkey standing tall and with the air of someone who wants to be holding a top hat...is an A+ visual (*saves*). But menacing? ...Not so much.
  9:18am Ken:

Dave, did you just request Rush?
  9:18am Bad Ronald:

uh oh...
  9:19am Bruce:

Etal: Ecce potestas casei
  9:20am Etal:

You know it.
  9:20am Lizardner Dave:

  9:22am third person:

  9:27am BSI:

  9:37am Bad Ronald:

Sounds like a Gwar concert.
  9:37am BSI:

We're not livin' in the dark aegiz!
  9:38am Dan:

Actually, the French don't celebrate Bastille Day. It's called La Fête Nationale - National Celebration day.
  9:40am Cecile:

I am sorry to hear about Tuli. Losing him and Harvey Pekar really sucks.
  9:40am LEX:

Great Russian ( pop ) singer Ivan Rebroff. Check out his stuff.
  9:40am Ne-guh-tor:

Tuli Kupferberg and tHE fUGS are the reason everyone should be in a killer kick ass band. I AM!
  9:41am Ne-guh-tor:

Tuli is a REAL hero to me.
  9:42am Ne-guh-tor:

Isn't that odd? Tuli and Sagan?
  9:42am thelma Blitz:

Tuli's Funeral info:
We have arranged to hold a service for Tuli at St. Marks church from 12-3 on Saturday, with a reception following shortly thereafter. We will have a viewing in a separate room at the beginning of the service for anyone who wishes to see him.
We are still working on the details for the reception and will let you know shortly. There will be no religious element to the service, and Coby, Steve and Ed will be the main speakers, after which anyone who wants to can talk, sing, recite poetry, or whatever they like.
He will be buried at Greenwood cemetery in Brooklyn on Monday morning at 9 am.
We will send out another email with more details once we have figured them out, but you are welcome to tell anyone who asks, the funeral is open to whoever wishes to attend.
  9:43am Bad Ronald:

Thanks Thelma, I'll be there...
  9:45am Ne-guh-tor:

I live far away, or else I'd probably go, but honestly, I'd rather watch him dance around in front of the band forever and in some way I will ;)
  9:46am Ken:

OK if I announce that Thelma?
  9:48am thelma Blitz:

It's open to all, the family says . People from WFMU who listen to Ken are especially welcome to me. You can announce it.
  9:50am annie:

see... this is why i love this station so much
  9:51am Cecile:

Thelma, I will be there in spirit.
  9:51am critter:

yo Ken, thanks for doing the needful. French is nice.
praps some Mice Parade if it fits? best wishes from
North Carolina.
  9:52am postmanpaul:

Hey! I'm done for the day (after starting the daily toil at 1am US Eastern time) and my mid-week 'rest day' this week is tomorrow. An overwhelming feeling of Fridayness is coursing through my veins.
Coming up on you Ken.
  9:53am Ne-guh-tor:

Where in NC critter?
  9:54am critter:

Charlotte, dog ... but it's not my fault.
  9:55am Ne-guh-tor:

I was born in Charlotte, but moved to Raleigh long ago ('94).
  9:57am critter:

I was born in Richmond, Virginia; but moved to Charlotte longer ago ('68).
  10:00am jan:

Did anyone else see theThe Agony and the Ecstasy of Phil Spector?
Seemed like reasonable doubt about his guilt. But the songs played during the movie kept running through my head for days. Guilty of
catchy tunes.
  10:01am thelma blitz:

Wasn't Kill for Peace from Fugs 2, not Fugs 4? Ed Sanders will most likely be the main speaker. Steve Weber won't be there.
Here is a link to Tuli's version of Moscow Nights. He loved that song and wanted to be remembered by this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Irhx-bEfiFw
  10:02am Ken:

I have Fugs 4, Rounders Score right here and it's on it. But this was a comp, wasnt it?
  10:03am JimRyan:

Thanks Ken. That is a truly tacky song.
  10:05am Skirkie:

This "So Mean" song is growing on me.
  10:06am jan:

Much mirth here with my assistant from Iceland. He has never heard Leoncie outside of his native country.
  10:06am paul:

i think Gretchen's House is some sort of daycare center, i see vans that say "Gretchen's House" driving around Ann Arbor all the time.
  10:07am Bad Ronald:

See a dermatologist Skirkie.
  10:07am paul:

and every time i see them i have to yell out "YOU'RE GOING TO GRETCHEN'S HOUSE!!!!"
  10:07am thelma blitz:

That's right , it's on side B of the Fugs 4 LP but it was also on Fugs 2 first. I wonder if it's a different performance. I never listened closely.
  10:09am Skirkie:

Gotta wait for my socialist heathcare.
  10:10am Ne-guh-tor:

critter: Born in Queen City '67. "YOU'RE GOING TO GRETCHEN'S HOUSE!!!!"
10:11am not stressed about getting sick:

socialist? Try humanist.
  10:12am SiHV:

Whoah, what a mistake to tune into WFMU today to try to improve my rotten attitude.
  10:12am Explanation Mark:

heathcare? get some sheep Skirkie.
  10:13am Bad Ronald:

No pressure but "Psycho" by Jack Kittel would be kinda cool after Johnny...
  10:13am coelacanth:

Ken, dont go to dr K's house...just go see Gretchin.
  10:14am critter:

Capitol of the Confederacy, '54.
  10:15am texas scott:

Gosh, this is such a sensitive murderer.
  10:17am paul:

  10:17am Ne-guh-tor:

I got this Lester Roadhog Moran record!
  10:20am Vicki:

Love the wonky waltz HA HA
  10:21am Lizardner Dave:

I bought it after Irwin played it several months back. I played it in a car on a road trip to Montreal and my wife made me turn it off and she's usually pretty tolerant of just about everything. Even Rush.
  10:23am Bad Ronald:

Call in folks!

Thanks Max!! Great job.
  10:30am Michelle in Green Bay:

  10:42am Carmichael:

Hiya Ken. Happy Wednesday everyone, and it's about damn time too ....
  10:42am powiva:

  10:42am Ne-guh-tor:

Did anyone else read about the ill fated Roxy record that got canned last year?
  10:42am still b/p:

Oh, good! Take a deep breath and...
  10:43am Michelle in Green Bay:

  10:44am Bruce:

Oh, darling, he's playing our song!
  10:45am still b/p:

Saw Roxy in a largely perfunctory performance in '76. Wish I'd seen them a few years earlier.
  10:47am Bad Ronald:

Mongolian Cluster Fuck?
  10:51am monica:

Neat, Anne. Swirly cladistics graphics look better than the linear ones.
  11:10am Lizardner Dave:

Coincidentally I just started reading "John Henry Days" by Colson Whitehead.
  11:13am trs:

Would you rather have a 'bacterial transplant' or 'fecal transplant'

  11:14am PMD:

Morning Ken - glad I get to listen live, even if for a little bit.
  11:15am Jeffersonic (DSK):

I'm sitting here, Plonskying away, and that sweet John Henry tune totally captured my drifting attentions. Nice one...
  11:21am fred:

@dave: Colson Whitehead! Is that the same guy who wrote The Intuitionist? I liked that book; based on your first impression, should I start annoying my official bookshop to carry that title? The owner has is own opinion on most books, to the point that he will even refuse to order a book sometimes despite his hefty markup, so I have to pick my battles. I wouldn't have it any other way, I love a cramped bookstore with piles of books everywhere, with free tea hidden in the middle.
  11:23am Denise in Washington, DC:

Free tea! Where's your bookshop, Fred?
  11:24am Lizardner Dave:

It is and so far I like it better than The Intuitionist and I liked that quite a bit. I have also read Apex Hides The Hurt and Colossus of New York, the former was a pretty good satire and the latter was a series of impressionistic essays about NY. I recommend both. Have not gotten to Sag Harbor yet.
  11:29am hamburger:

wow lol...
  11:29am annie:

oh i've seen this video!!
  11:30am Ne-guh-tor:

Die Antwoord - ha!
  11:30am Magda:

I saw this too. It has an odd combo of being creepy and catchy.
  11:30am jaypee:

Totally zef side.
  11:31am north guinea hills:

The video is hilarious (as are their other videos [die antwoord]), nothing like afrikaaners rocking it out.
  11:31am annie:

yes, on the side of creepy but mesmerizing, too
  11:32am Magda:

Especially since DJ High Tek looks like he was cast in The Island of Dr. Moreau.
  11:32am annie:

my son's ex-GF thinks the chick should be japanese
  11:33am Magda:

I can't believe he committed to doing 5 albums. All the concepts tattooed on his body.
  11:33am fred:

@denise Abbey Bookshop, 29 rue de la parcheminerie, Paris, France.
There's usually a prominent Canadian flag in front. Pay a visit if you're around, it's well worth it if you like old school bookshops, complete with readings and the occasional medieval dance tips -- don't ask me, ask Brian (the owner).
@dave: OK, I'm running out of books anyway, so I'll start lobbying the owner about these. Thanks for the advice!
  11:33am mike in brooklyn:

i heart yolandi

  11:35am Ken:

What records does Antwoord have out? I had to rip it off of youtube!
  11:36am jaypee:

Magda, are you talking about Leon Botha? He suffers from progera.
  11:37am Magda:

I just looked that up what Progera was. That's insane.
  11:38am annie:

jaypee, i saw a very derogatory comment about him on one of the vid posts..
  11:38am north guinea hills:

All I know is Antwoord has a record deal, not sure if any official media exists yet.
  11:39am Carmichael:

Oh Ken, thanks for the Cleaners from Venus, by the way.
  11:39am Denise in Washington, DC:

Fred -- merci! I have friends who live in Paris -- I'm hoping to get there soon. If/when I do, I'll be sure to stop by.
  11:39am Magda:

Since they are playing Govoner's Island NY Magazine did a brief bio on them.
  11:39am jaypee:

Ken, they have an EP out, "5".
  11:40am Denise in Washington, DC:

Ken -- wonderful pic of the woman with candles! Where's it from?
  11:41am jaypee:

annie, yeah, it seems like he's doing ok for himself despite the assholery directed towards him.
  11:42am Ken:

I wish I knew Denise! I might have snagged it off of the blog Black and WTF
  11:42am annie:

What, no Ken-shift football match?!?!?!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...
  11:44am fred:

@denise: cheat code: the tea is on the table in the middle after the desk. Both are usually covered with books anyway, but you can always ask, whoever is there will tell you, and rush to make some tea if they ran out at the time. Maple syrup is usually on hand as well, if you're into that.
  11:44am stingy d:
