Thanks for the annotations, Katherine. Let me also add Aaron Dodd of 8 Bold Souls to the RIPs. He was the anchor of a band that meant an awful lot to me in my Chicago days.

DJ KG:
Dang! I've got to read more Poe! I'm reading "How to Wreck a Nice Beach," the history of the vocoder. It's pretty great, although it's a bit long in the hip-hop for my taste. I mean, Bruce Haack is only a footnote!

I don't know what Charukeshi means, but I just read that this piece includes a traditional melody(melody) from the Maihar . A rarely heard rhythmic cycle of 9 beats.

Charukeshi: http://www.azuremilesrecords.com/charunotes.html I'm roaming through 3 autobiographies of music people: "Black Postcards" by Dean Wareham, "A Cure For Gravity" by Joe Jackson, and "A Dysfunctional Success" by Wreckless Eric.
|
Mon. 6/21/10 10:37pm
DJ KG:
!! I've read the Wreckless Eric one. Pretty fun, huh? How's the Joe Jackson? (War and Peace... damn!)
|
Mon. 6/21/10 10:43pm
Keith:
Came in late and missed the Funkadelic and Devo.
|
Mon. 6/21/10 10:44pm
Mary Wing:
Joe's book is pretty good so far, I have only read the first few chapters so we're still in the formative years. I only found out recently that he's gay, which was shocking and yet not so shocking. Wreckless Eric's a fine story teller, yeah.
|
Mon. 6/21/10 10:45pm

|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:05pm
Katherine:
Keith, DJ KG is serious about KISS. Anthrax cover of "She" on the show knocked me out a few weeks ago. Well, so did DJ KG's performance of same on the WFMU Marathon Finale!
|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:05pm
Keith:
Kurt. My daughter requests either Lady GaGa or Epica. Your choice.
|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:06pm
DJ KG:
I actually dig "Bad Romance," but Keith, ask Steve how often I take requests...
|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:06pm

|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:46pm
DJ KG:

|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:48pm
JT:
nope. i mean, it might be correct, but it's got a J and i'm going to use it. also, depending on who says it, nah-dee-ya is shortened to nah-jyah, which is probably the best...
|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:48pm
Mary Wing:
This Cosa Brava is interesting; is it in the new bin?
|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:48pm
Doug in dc:
That segue was inspired. I'm trying to remember how Nadja pronounced it. I think just Nadya. It's an Andre Breton novel.
|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:50pm
Katherine:
that was a cool transition between songs to Bowie. I remember sitting on the floor in front of a treasure chest under an orange ball light pondering this album back in high school.
|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:51pm
slugluv1313:
EXACTLY! and not those who were (later) obsessed with being "weird" on purpose -- i am talking about those of us who were labelled "weird" etc. by others, ya know? BOWIE, Lou Reed, Roxy Music, Mott the Hoople, etc. (ya know, all those "glitter rockers"!!!)
|
Mon. 6/21/10 11:53pm
slugluv1313:
oops, i clumsily posted without finishing -- all those artists were like this amazing safe haven for us "weirdos" "freaks" etc.
