GET AT EM NOAH! TEAR IT UP!
Tue. 6/1/10 9:08am
Noah:
Janette Beckman got her start photographing some of the most well-known names in Punk Rock during the 1970s: The Ramones, The Clash, The Specials, The Jam, The Sex Pistols, etc. Moving to NY in 1982, she immediately became drawn to the upcoming hip-hop scene and captured city icons such as Afrika Bambaataa, Run DMC, Michael Jonzun, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, MC Lyte and on and on and on! Sara Rosen has been one of the most instrumental figures in publishing as far as getting graffiti artists and hip hop photographers' names out there. She was the Associate Publisher and Senior Vice President of PowerHouse Books. She has created books, exhibitions, and special events that have sparked and influenced trends with various projects. Tune in to hear all about capturing that solid image and listen as Janette & Sara pick out their favorite 12" sides.

dc pat:
kind of over this MIA song. the chorus is pretty sophomoric--oooo, guns!!. Much rather hear Joe's version.
Tue. 6/1/10 10:38am
Cecile:
dcp, did you read the NYT's profile on MIA? I took it with a grain of salt, as I think it was the author that has done some sneaky backstabbing to her profile subjects in the past. But MIA is a lot of about posturing, that's for sure. Don't need a NYT profile to figure that out...
Tue. 6/1/10 10:40am
Cecile:
As Daddy-O rapped, "Rap brings back old R&B/If we would have not/You would have forgot"
Tue. 6/1/10 10:42am
dc pat:
Cecile: didn't see that yet---not saying I don't like her, I think she's great but...if we're going to listen to Straight to Hell samples, why not listen to Straight to Hell? I KNOW, I went off on this before. never mind. M.I.A. is ok with me.
Tue. 6/1/10 10:44am
Cecile:
I know. I know. The Clash postured as much as MIA did, I think people forget that. ITA, dcp, I discovered that site that tells you what sample showed up in what dance or rap song, and it's really been eyeopening, and a little saddening. Who's writing the new riffs?
Tue. 6/1/10 10:47am
Cecile:
YES. The wheels of steel.
Tue. 6/1/10 10:53am
