Hi Tom & Looms, good morning. Tom, I saw a reference to a place called Hallock Hill Friday in a book about the history of settlement in the North Country...
|
Sun. 4/25/10 6:30am
Tom L:
Dan, yes, it is the name of a road and hill in Harkness, really close to Peru. It is where I was born and lived for the first three years of my life. I use that name to distinguish my "work person" from my "music person."
|

Dan B:
Good idea...I can't really do that separation thing -- it's too late, I've been using my name with the music forever. I found the Hallock Hill reference in a pictorial history of Clinton Co. Also found two photos of my great-grandfather (who I'd never seen before) in a local history of Altona...on the shelves of the NY Public Library on 42nd St!

That is great, Dan. I love that kind of mysterious discovery. How incredible to see a photo of your great-grandfather.

Love Not Not Fun's copy for the Sun Araw: "If a tree falls in a forest and no one’s around, shit still gets crushed. If Cameron Stallones holes up solo-style in a suburban cave and wah-riffs over canned bongos for five straight months, double LPs still get dropped. These are basic life laws..." http://www.notnotfun.com/now.html

I rest in the assurance that *everyone's* worst moments will now be subject to eternal surveillance, and mine will (hopefully) be lost in the information storm.

Morning everyone! Great radio, if only I wasn't working eh. I liked Gil Scott-Heron laughing at the funny lines in the Smog song. Magic Carpathinians are amazing too.

Dan, I'm checking this out and don't see the name of the track you listed: http://worldflagrecords.blogspot.com/2010/03/acousmatic-psychogeography.html Is this the album?
|
Sun. 4/25/10 7:47am
Dan B:
@ Mark, I was just guessing! Thanks. @ Tom L, yeah, that's the album. The titles are kind of hidden, so I didn't find it right away. I've updated the playlist, thanks.

Hey Tom, I stumbled across your blog (I think!) the other day via twitter reading about Thurston Moore teaching the kids about noise, good reading!
|
Sun. 4/25/10 7:56am
Looms:
Dan, what was the short track you played just before The Living Sisters? (lovely one with guitar and violin) Was it William Nowick?
|
Sun. 4/25/10 8:01am
Tom L:
andy/s -- thanks a lot! I appreciate it. It is great to be making all these connections today (I don't generally self=promote too much, largely because I think it is pretty minor-league) and especially given the mood of Dan's amazing show.
|
Sun. 4/25/10 8:05am
Dan B:
@Looms, yeah, that was Nowick. I can't tell what track or tracks -- the CD is broken up into 3 tracks, although 14 are listed in the CD insert. Who knows what those were? Sounded great though. @Tom, yeah, your blog is awesome!
