Listener comments!

  9:05am annie:

good morning..
  9:08am north guinea hills:

Happy morn' to all. Can't wait until I'm forlapped this evening. (archaic term for being dead drunk)
  9:09am Parq:

And today, we start with -- mountain music!
  9:23am still b/p:

That last went kind of a Hill Duce direction.
  9:32am Parq:

While we're on the subject of African music, I just learned that Femi Kuti & Positive Force will play Midsummer Night's Swing on July 17.
  9:34am Tom:

Where is Atte from? Sorry if I missed that.
  9:35am Drummer Some:

Atte is from South Africa, though recorded on an Irish record label.
  9:36am Tom:

Thanks GTDS. Looks like this is the South Africa block. Cool!
  9:40am Hugo:

Atté is a South African vocal quartet, based in the UK at the time of the recording and backed up on this record by Dudu Pukwana and his crew.
  9:41am Cecile:

morning all!
  9:41am Liz B.:

Lovin' this set so far, Doug! Masuka, Makeba, and Mbulu are faves of mine, but I've never heard Atte before, wow!
  9:42am Cecile:

the lead singer has a slight vocal resemblance to Marilyn McCoo
  9:49am Tom:

Liz B get back to work! :)
  9:50am Cecile:

You know, I like the 5th Dimension, and am not afraid to admit it.
  9:51am north guinea hills:

I was listening to the 5th Dimension last week at home, haha.
  9:52am Brian in UK:

This may have been mentioned before, Steve McQueen, the director, is making a film on the life of Fela Kuti.
  9:52am Drummer Some:

Fly the FD flag proudly, Cecile. They deep some deepness. Their musical version of the Declaration of Independence is a great contribution to humanity.
  9:57am Cecile:

I was so excited that my friend's teenager was getting into them after they played Duluth, MN recently. They signed a CD for her and were so nice according to her.

Musical sophistication without nilhilism. And great to sing in the car!
  10:02am Cecile:

WOW. just WOW. Til 2004!
  10:03am annie:

doug, i think the accent is on the first syllable.
  10:03am Cecile:

YES. I love Mal playing Billie.
  10:05am annie:

not really wanting to change the subject, but wow, the photos of this volcanic activity are astounding and reality-ridden
  10:13am Brian in UK:

No flights over the UK or Northern Europe for the last 24 hours. A sky without vapour trails. Wonderful. That Mal Waldron was lovely, Doug
  10:14am north guinea hills:

So, would said photos be considered hyperreal?
  10:14am Brian in UK:

No flights over the UK or Northern Europe for the last 24 hours. A sky without vapour trails. Wonderful. That Mal Waldron was lovely, Doug
  10:14am Dickdong (UK):

It's a wonderful clear sky - no trails. Lets have more no-fly days
  10:15am Brian in UK:

Three goes at the maths question. Oh boy!!!
  10:15am ken:

roland, circular breathing, go daddy go...
  10:17am annie:

http://icelandweatherreport.com/2010/04/an-amazing-photo-of-the-eruption.html

this one in particular
  10:19am north guinea hills:

Holy Smithers, Annie! You were right! Thanks!
  10:19am Hugo:

Yes, no flights in Northern Europe. Lucky to get back from Oslo in the nick of time!
  10:22am Dickdong:

Why would you not want to be stuck in Oslo?
  10:23am annie:

terrifying..
  10:25am Drummer Some:

Oh, Mama, can this really be the end
To be stuck inside of Oslo
With the Memphis blues again
  10:26am ken:

that's about oslo as you can go!
  10:28am Hugo:

Nobody wants to get stuck in that place for longer than necessary. Hopefully, no one from O. is peeking in ...
  10:28am Aaron:

morning doug! great set with WPquartet! thanks!
  10:35am trrs:

Isn't 'getting stuck somewhere' kind of like weeds in a garden? The subjective on location in time.

(Great f-day music, Doug)
  10:40am Cecile:

remember when we used to make out to this hymn?
  10:43am earballs:

Doug, check your stereo phase
  10:45am Drummer Some:

Earballs,
Was it the In-a-Gadda that was out of phase? I can't tell in the studio unless I turn around and look at the oscilloscope, which isn't very accessible.
  10:50am Parq:

I missed an Asian Inna-Gadda?? DANG my slow-ass work puter.
  10:55am Carmichael:

Happy payday, everyone.
  11:02am Alex:

In the original In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by I.B recording, there was intentional phase shifting taking place during the drum solo to give a whoosh effect. Someone once played it for me, and we could only hear the effect when playing it in mono
  11:03am still b/p:

Ohhhhh, dear.
  11:03am Carmichael:

I need to go buy some beer, so I can cry in it.
  11:10am ∂avid:

HAHHAH! I never heard this hippie from mississippi.....
  11:10am north guinea hills:

A nice twist on a Merle classic, haha!
  11:22am Sean Daily:

Not even close to first comment! Woo hoo!
  11:34am annie:

cutting out early today.. gotta get out and roust the dog to action.. doug, you rock!! thanks..
  11:38am PMD:

Hello everyone! Goodbye Annie!
  11:48am seang:
