This is a recording from Valentine's Day 1998. Was reading about a Charlemagne Palestine concert this past week and kept thinking of how nice it is to be soaked in organ drones, so here it is.

I love the way I always find something interesting that I've never heard of here. I've just googled him, and Charlemagne Palestine has a properly scary website: http://www.charlemagnepalestine.org/Charlemagne_Palestine/Charlemagne_Palestine_official_site.html Andy happy new year to everyone, too.

Sun. 2/14/10 6:47am
Dan B:
That is truly a terrifying website Graham! Won't someone please donate web design services to poor Charlemagne?
|
Sun. 2/14/10 6:50am
Dan B:
Thanks Stannerlee - I did not know about Losar. I'll have to ask about the year of the male iron tiger at the deli down the street from my house that's run by Sherpas.

Dan B:
I remember Chinese New Year in NYC Chinatown back in the days before Guiliani, when people lit off so many firecrackers that some streets were ankle-deep in red paper. It sounded like a waterfall of gunshots.

fred:
Nice Sainkho Namtchylak track, makes me look forward to her show on tuesday. And in a few hours I'll celebrate Losar at a Yungchen Lhamo gig.

Someone thinks this song is "frankly ridiculous": http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/various_artists_f2/recovery/

fred:
I think that "Someone thinks this song is "frankly ridiculous"" would make a nice random greeting on the home page

"fund this station or i will shoot this record!"
|
Sun. 2/14/10 7:57am
Stannerlee:
Can I just say that I know you've had complaints in the past but, I for one, like the 'ridiculous' music and so-called noise that you play. Sure, I can enjoy it as an antidote to all the singalong bullshit thats around and that is fine but I actually like it on its own merits and balls to good taste!
|

Sun. 2/14/10 8:17am
Dan B:
OK, there's nary an Air Supply record in the station. Even checked the basement library. Oh wait, maybe we have mp3s...nope, none there either. This station's main deficiency is that it's real hard to find a crappy record in the library here! Damn.
|
Sun. 2/14/10 8:28am
Tom L:
@numbatwombat: yes, agreed.
|
Sun. 2/14/10 8:38am
fred:
I'm off to that Tibetan concert, wearing my colors in case the broadcast is video as well as audio. If you see a middle-aged white guy in a radio bear t-shirt, that's probably me.
|

This Gown is amazing. | |
|
Sun. 2/14/10 8:56am
Dan B:
@numbat, yes, new Roland Young is amazing. @Stannerlee, yes, #1. They're huge. The popularity of bands like Citay -- you know, like the Pitchfork set, I guess - has been reminding me a lot of what it was like before grunge...all this underground music that sold a lot but was never heard/seen on mainstream radio/TV. @Rachel, I hate being loved, so this love-in is right up my alley (to coin a phrase.) :)
