Listener comments!

  3:08am
Mary Wing:

Hi Joe!

Was planning to go to bed, but then remembered that you'd be on soon. Had to tune in for the Muppets, at least.

Let me be the first (?) to wish you a happy Valentine's Day! Or, as I like to call it: Single Awareness Day. :-)
  3:10am
Joe:

Hey, Mary! Happy VD! Nothing but heart songs tonight, as usual. Thanks for checkin' in, and sweet dreams.
  3:10am
Droll:

Wow -- Fela on steel pans! Far out!
  3:11am
Joe:

It's SSOOOO good!
  3:13am
Mary Wing:

I knew you'd have an appropriate playlist planned. Will there be both happy heart songs and sad heart songs?

Steel drums - for the win!
  3:14am
Joe:

I'm just going to do a set of 30s romantic songs later on. That stuff says romance to me more than anything else except for maybe Jonathan Richman crooning "You Were Meant for Me."
  3:16am
Joe (not you, a different one):

thats pretty great, because I'm just now hastily putting together a last minute Valentines mixtape for that special somebody.

Just so you know - I'll be ripping you off, big time.

Hell YEAH Frisky.
  3:19am
Mary Wing:

Right on, right on!

Nothing says "I care" quite like a mixtape, in my opinion, but Joe (the other Joe), is it really a tape? Or will it be an mp3 jobby?
  3:22am
Joe:

Cassettes are the new CD!
  3:26am
Mary Wing:

Heh. There's a T-shirt slogan I'd like to see.

Or as my favorite T-shirt says:

http://www.oldcrappytee.com/product_detail.php?product_id=68
  3:27am
Joe:

The last working tape deck in my house expired quite recently. It was exactly 1 year older than I am. While I -have- done it "the old fashioned way" (back in high school), the current recipient wouldn't know what to do with a cassette even if provided with a explanatory diagram, and that's also assuming she had the proper equipment to play one (she doesn't).

However cassettes are totally the new CD, I've bought them at the last 3 consecutive shows I've seen AND I found out that the appliance repair store the next town over has a giant selection that I can raid.

So to answer your question - last minute = mp3's on a cd.

Can't wait til CDs are retro, either.
  3:30am
Joe (not you, a different one):

I claim full ownership of the above ramble - it is in no way endorsed by the DJ.
  3:31am
Joe M.:

I'll love it when the mix CD is suddenly the material for coffee table book nostalgia, too. Feel free to ramble, Joe (the other one)! Great T, Mary!
  3:38am
Mary Wing:

I'm suddenly a little sad that I won't be getting a mixtape from someone special, yet cheered by the fact that someone else, somewhere, will. I hope she appreciates it, (listener) Joe!
  3:51am
Joe:

Assembling a mixtape for anyone who's ever had a show on FMU would be almost mind-numbingly intimidating.
  3:55am
Joe M.:

Just put on some Shooby Taylor and Jandek and you'd be OK.
  3:57am
Mary Wing:

Heh! Don't forget some Bob Seger, the man who brings us all together.

By the way; Yay, Ngozi Family!
  4:04am
Héctor:

Hello Joe!
Nice to hear that frisky Fred Astaire!
  4:04am
Joe:

Yes, need to get the Seeg on there! What would be your choice Bob pick, Mary?
  4:10am
Mary Wing:

I hate to say it, it's so cliche, but I've always had a soft spot for "Night Moves"

Joe McGasko himself has played the Seeg, I see!
  4:11am
Joe M.:

I have, indeed! I'm not a hater. (BTW, that would be my pick, too!)
  4:24am
Mary Wing:

I need to get a fill-in show soon, so that I may get my Seeg on.

You have not fulfilled your Jandek quotas, however...
  4:26am
Joe:

Ha ha ha!
  4:35am
Joe (other):

thanks for the songs - I'm almost done. GREAT pick on the Paper Moon sndtrack - great flick.

PS I think you should sign all your comment posts as "McG". Like that guy who directed the last terminator movie and all those bad music videos. Because that would be hilarious.
  4:36am
McG:

Who says I don't take requests?
  4:39am
Joe (zee other):

Someday I will join wikipedia's list of mononymous persons. Oh yes, someday.
  4:40am
Joe McG:

"Mononymous" is a good Valentine's Day word.
  4:54am
Mary Wing:

I'm dozing off, so I;m gonna shut down the computer. The radio's staying on, though, so no subliminal messages! Good night folks!
  4:55am
annie:

i'm awake, not necessarily aware, but i DO know i'm listening..
  4:55am
Joe:

Here's a song to send you off to sleep, Mary. Dream away!
  5:05am
Patrick:

I bet you don't think farmers are listening to your show. Well, this one is.
  5:07am
Joe M.:

Yay! I'm so glad! PLEASE be careful on that tractor, Patrick.
  5:08am
Patrick:

Always.
  5:11am
annie:

cool, man....
  5:12am
annie:

ok, now, even cooler.
  5:12am
Joe M.:

Hey, Annie! Nice to have you along. I'm so used to seeing you during the daytime shows.
  5:17am
annie:

well, my cell-phone, which i use for my clock, ran out the battery last night and i woke not knowing what time it was.. .. ergo!! i woke at 4:30 and got up..made coffee and saw what time it was when i logged in! but a pleasant treat, to be sure!
  5:19am
Joe M.:

Thanks, Annie!
  5:20am
Patrick:

The brothers... so very nice.
  5:50am
annie:

sooo glad to have caught the show joe!
  5:51am
Joe M.:

Thanks, Annie! It's been fun, as always!
  11:07am
Mike Sin:

The set that begins with Fred Astaire inspired to splash on just a bit more Hai Karate cologne this morning (for reference:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtwh3nQP5Uo)
  11:12am
Joe M.:

Hysterical, Mike! Good luck fighting off the females today.
