Morning Dan! Hello fellow listeners!
Sun. 1/31/10 6:07am
Emile:
oooh I like this Circle thing
Sun. 1/31/10 6:10am
Tom L:
Morning all.
Sun. 1/31/10 6:11am
Dan B:
Morning all! Thanks for the packages, Looms & Tom (if you're out there). I will be breaking records on the show in 2 weeks, so anyone else who wants to contribute a terrible album that I can play and then smash on air with a hammer, get them to me soon!
Sun. 1/31/10 6:12am
Tom L:
Excellent, Dan, glad it arrived!
Sun. 1/31/10 6:12am
Dan B:
I still don't have any cassingles to smash, hint hint. I *hate* cassingles, regardless of the music on them, just for being cassingles.
Sun. 1/31/10 6:14am
Héctor:
Hello Dan!, Hello all!
Oh, breaking records....kick out the jams!
Sun. 1/31/10 6:15am
fred:
Hello Dan and all.
@looms: where are you now? You know, there are often gigs nearby, but knowing about it is the hard part. No wonder Bas learned about it from WFMU, I'm used to that by now.
Sun. 1/31/10 6:22am
fred:
Dan, I share your loathing for cassingles -- that's why I don't have any -- but I think I hate CD singles even more, either the regular size wasters or the tiny ones that mess up players. Call me old fashioned but to me singles should be 45s, either 7" or 12".
Sun. 1/31/10 6:30am
Looms:
@Dan: No cassingle to be found here (though i thought i had one somewhere but it's likely to have been visiting the dustbin.
@fred: i'm in Brest, the far farwest of France. Not so many gigs to my taste except for african music and jazz so my car is very usefull (and train of course).
Anyway, we have something big coming in may: Festival SONORE 2010, à la Carene (Brest). Avec Trans Am, Volcano the Bear, Joe McPhee, Wayne Horvitz, Ghédalia Tazartès, Francisco Lopez, Ken Vandermark, Mats Gustafsson, Norberto Lobo, Jac Berrocal, David Fenech, Paal Nilssen-Love, Fred lonberg-Holm, Nikos Veliotis, Le Quan Ninh, Briggan Krauss, Jeb Bishop, Big Pop, Benat Achiary, Michael Zerang, Kent Kessler, Peter Brotzmann Tentet, Johannes Bauer, Per-Âke Holmlander Didier Lasserre
Sun. 1/31/10 6:30am
Dan B:
I agree that CD singles are ludicrous. There's no reason not to include the entire album on there! I have a soft spot in my heart for the little 3" cds though, kinda remind me of 7"s
Sun. 1/31/10 6:31am
Dan B:
Anyone see the Necks here in NYC this past week? I had to miss them.
Sun. 1/31/10 6:33am
andy/sunderland:
Dan I think I have a cassingle with your name on it, I sort of like it but it IS 90s Jazz-Funk.
Also i'm going to see The Ex play with Mats Gustafsson and three other horn players tonight, woohoo!
Sun. 1/31/10 6:36am
Dan B:
Awesome Andy.
Sun. 1/31/10 6:36am
Looms:
Enjoyed each The Ex gig i ever experienced. Have fun!
Sun. 1/31/10 6:44am
numbatwombat:
we can bring lee scratch perry on to exorcise demons!
Sun. 1/31/10 6:45am
Looms:
Just call the Ghostbusters! And be careful...
Sun. 1/31/10 6:47am
Héctor:
Hey Dan! If smashing a Rihanna record you release free her daemon, let us know...
Sun. 1/31/10 6:47am
Dan B:
Ooh, yeah, I could smash the Ghostbusters song! Also, Lee Scratch Perry could be my spiritual advisor during the record smashing show, nice idea.
Sun. 1/31/10 6:51am
A:
I may need to procure "Knee Deep In The Hoopla" just for this event!
Sun. 1/31/10 6:53am
fred:
@looms: this festival looks great indeed. If Tazartès, Berrocal and Fenech play as a trio, don't miss it, they have a good thing going there. I don't think I'll make the trip though: hopefully I'll be starting at a new job about that time, so no time off for me.
Sun. 1/31/10 6:56am
Dan B:
I'm knee deep in the hoopla right now, yo
Sun. 1/31/10 6:58am
Dan B:
It's so goddamn cold in the studio that I'm warming my fingers over the board, which is emanating a tiny bit of heat!
Sun. 1/31/10 7:00am
Tom L:
So cold! I've got my laptop on my lap to get a little warmth.
Sun. 1/31/10 7:01am
Looms:
@Fred: i won't miss it, and all sleeping places in my flat are already reserved by friends! By the way, Tazartès is one of my very favourite artists.
Sun. 1/31/10 7:03am
numbatwombat:
thank you! this is one of my favorite songs of all! the burning world is such a beautiful album!
Sun. 1/31/10 7:04am
Looms:
Oh, thanks for this song Dan! Seems Michael Gira wants to bring the Swans back to life.
Sun. 1/31/10 7:05am
Dan B:
You're welcome -- always glad to bum everyone out! The online listenership stats just took a nosedive! I love Swans, who, btw, have reunited: http://younggodrecords.com/News/Detail/?C=2327
Sun. 1/31/10 7:06am
chris in shoreditch:

Sun. 1/31/10 7:11am
chris in shoreditch:

Sun. 1/31/10 7:16am
Dan B:
Did you guys see that Gira is raising money for the new Swans album by giving people executive producer credit in the liner notes for donations?
Sun. 1/31/10 7:20am
Looms:
Yes, but the help raising funds cd/dvd is already sold out.
Sun. 1/31/10 7:22am
Looms:
At least temporarily
Sun. 1/31/10 7:29am
Bas, NL:
Oh! Nice and busy here! Good day to all!
@Looms: Love the Brest area! I used to go on holiday to the north of Bretagne for years on end!
Sun. 1/31/10 7:32am
Looms:
@Bas: yes, this is a wonderful area to live in. About your comment on the mini festival in Utrecht on your blog, i totally agree with you about Microphonics.
Sun. 1/31/10 7:38am
Bas, NL:
@Looms: Microphonics was new to me.. and a great and pleasant discovery! He had some great and fancy vinyl releases on offer. Should have thought of bringing money ;(
Sun. 1/31/10 7:44am
andy/s:
I always end up singing the lyrics to 'tainted love' along with stuff like this. Have to get past that.
Sun. 1/31/10 7:48am
Dan B:
@Andy, hehe, go with it. Should I do it on mic next time?
Sun. 1/31/10 7:56am
Looms:
Wow, this compilation might be my next purchase, many great artists on it as far as i can read about it (http://www.theharmonicseries.com/).
Sun. 1/31/10 7:57am
andy/s:
Definitely. Fire up the echo machine too.
Sun. 1/31/10 7:59am
andy/s:
@Looms I love the sound of this stuff, all the overtones (?) in the background, very cool
Sun. 1/31/10 8:00am
Looms:
@Andy: all the more agreed!
Sun. 1/31/10 8:01am
numbatwombat:
i very much liked that michael harrison piece; like a somewhat less eccentric charlemagne palestine. i had never heard of him before, so it was a real treat!
Sun. 1/31/10 8:02am
Looms:
Dan, you really please me today! Thanks for playing EN.
Sun. 1/31/10 8:04am
Dan B:
That Harrison piece, wow, awesome stuff. And this was my gateway EN song -- before this I was a Deadhead, then I heard it and never went back again (except when I did).
Sun. 1/31/10 8:25am
numbatwombat:
"what a smell!" - steve stapleton is the jam mixmaster! and the wheels or razor blades or mouse clicks or whatnot.
Sun. 1/31/10 8:26am
Looms:
Didn't know that "mash-up" track by NWW, nice stuff.
Sun. 1/31/10 8:29am
Dan B:
That new NWW record's selling for 99p in British shops -- it's a mashup of all the earlier NWW records, nice stuff for the attention deficient.
Sun. 1/31/10 8:38am
numbatwombat:
i am glad you are playing this now as i was planning later to listen to the live van wissem set i unfortunately had to miss a couple weeks ago(?). ah!
Sun. 1/31/10 8:39am
numbatwombat:
not planning on missing the james blackshaw set on tues, though!
Sun. 1/31/10 8:40am
Looms:
So did i, but what a rejoicing session by Jozef Van Wissem!
Sun. 1/31/10 8:42am
Dan B:
Yeah, James Blackshaw will be on Tuesday on Scott McDowell's excellent show, don't miss it!
Sun. 1/31/10 8:52am
Dan B:
I love this Ty Braxton piece. He played it live on this show back in 200 or so. All just him with a mic, guitar, and a pile of electronics sitting on the floor.
Sun. 1/31/10 8:54am
numbatwombat:
i got to see battles live 2007 or so. unbelievable!
Sun. 1/31/10 8:55am
numbatwombat:
one of those years. whenever they came to miami probably most recently.
Sun. 1/31/10 8:56am
Looms:
Thanks Dan, great show!
