We're having to listen to the BS spoken at the Chilcot Enquiry into the Iraq War. It was Tony Blair's turn to squirm (hopefully) today.
Goodbye JD.

Listener James from Westwood:
In re: "Rasputin" cut: Oddly enough, last night @ Borders I was reading a "Hellboy" comic compilation that featured, as its major baddie, Raspuitn. Coincidence? I think not!
Fri. 1/29/10 9:23am
Drummer Some:
Top o' the morning (aftenoon) to you, you and especially you. I'm passing around a bottle of bourbon. Please take a sniff and share with your e-neighbors.

DOUG! DOUG! DOUG! My computer went haywire for awhile there and I couldn't listen in real? (at my desk is More accurately surreal) time again! Been digging the archives though. FREEFORM WHENEVER FOREVER!!!!!

Mornin' Doug... Just tuned in to ... what do you call it? Is it singing? chanting? wailing?
Fri. 1/29/10 9:41am
Drummer Some:
@PMD
I would call it... chailing
Fri. 1/29/10 9:41am

Just kidding. I do like it.

Chris:
...just save the champagne for when lou dobbs wins a nj senate seat.
Fri. 1/29/10 9:46am
Drummer Some:
@Chris
Off you go into the GTDS penalty box for that. See you back in 2:00.
Fri. 1/29/10 9:46am
gumby:
I got a thought last night. Did the autotune thing heard on every damn single major label release this year come from the Bollywood music? Or did they invent it so they could sound like that? Any thoughts anyone?
Fri. 1/29/10 9:46am
Cecile:
Please send some good thoughts to me and especially my friend. He has surgery for mouth cancer today. He's an epicure, and ironically part of his tongue has to go.
Fri. 1/29/10 9:50am
Drummer Some:
Love and prayers to you and yours, Cecile.
Fri. 1/29/10 9:51am
BSI:
Gumby: I did notice quite a bit of it on bhangra tracks dating back a few years; Balwinder Safri may be at least partially to blame. Shame, since Safri is, in a word, the man.
Fri. 1/29/10 9:53am
Cecile:
thank you Doug!
Fri. 1/29/10 9:54am

Sorry to hear Cecile. Good thoughts sent.

Fri. 1/29/10 10:03am
Cecile:
wow this is a great electro track.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:05am
Chris:
I would love to see the doc but no health insurance and last time I went to the county clinic here in chicago i waited for 8 hours...just 3 hours longer thsn the time before...unfortunately "putting off" is how i deal with most of my health issues.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:10am
north guinea hills:
Shouldn't that read "Purna Das", not "Puma Das"?
Fri. 1/29/10 10:12am
Cecile:
I'm sorry to hear that Chris.
So no sliding scale clinic near you? When I didn't have insurance, that saved my carcass a few times.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:17am
Chris:
there is cecile but you need to go through an annoying application/approval process. last time i tried i missed a deadline and had to start again.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:17am
Drummer Some:
@NGH
I need my freakin readin glasses...
Fri. 1/29/10 10:19am
Cecile:
Pretend it's on that old comic book paper that used to run.
There's a reason why the censors would hate it when comics writers would use the words "FLICK"
Chris, it's a pain, but it's worth doing.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:21am
Hugo:
most likely "purna"
Fri. 1/29/10 10:21am
dc pat:
Chris: so I guess you're not planning on attending any "tea parties" any time soon?
DrummerSome: Perfect set for my current mood. I was just playing my cigar box guit that sounds like ol' One String here...
Fri. 1/29/10 10:22am
Cecile:
I know i have a good boss because he has a banjo and his resonator guitar sitting in cases in his cube.
Doug, do you have any Rene Hall? He did some great one-string pickin'
Fri. 1/29/10 10:24am
Lisa:
Hey Doug-
Love these Blues. Thanks. Getting me through some of my own. Hi to Jesse and Lincoln. Lisa- mom of baseball guy Zach
Fri. 1/29/10 10:24am
Chris:
i'm waitin for lou dobbs to become president...then i'll get free health care, won't i?
Fri. 1/29/10 10:27am
Drummer Some:
Hi Lisa!
Sorry you have the blues.
Cecile,
I don't have any Rene Hall (at least I do remember having any). And I am a diddly bo lover from waay back. I will hunt...
Chris,
That's a game misconduct. Five minutes in the box.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:28am
Cecile:
he's on some of those Specialty singles compilations, Doug.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:29am

papa says::
let that boy boogie woogie . 'cos it's in him - and it gotta come out...
Fri. 1/29/10 10:37am
Cecile:
Great piece on Rene. I love Twitchy, it's one of my favorite instrumentals.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:39am
Curmudgeon:
WHAT????
Fri. 1/29/10 10:45am
Ted from Baltimore:
Ahhh, breathtaking. Those crickets in the background just take this recording to a whole 'nother level.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:47am
Pete:
hi from the days inn in st. paul, mn.
beautiful. thanks wfmu for making me feel at home.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:48am
Drummer Some:
@Ted
More crickets coming up later in this set... (!)
Fri. 1/29/10 10:52am
Cecile:
Pete! I'm just blocks from you.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:53am
Pete:
Cecile! Get me out of here!
Fri. 1/29/10 10:53am
JCJensen:
Thanks Doug!
Fri. 1/29/10 10:56am
Cecile:
I know, I know.
Need any recs to keep yourself from putting your eyes out with boredom?
Fri. 1/29/10 10:57am
north guinea hills:
that was a beautifully different version of "young Tambling" then the Fairport version.
Fri. 1/29/10 10:57am
Pete:
Just here to explore for like 32 hours... need breakfast, tour guide?
Fri. 1/29/10 11:03am
J-Mar:
Finally tuning in -- it's a snow day here in Nashville. So I get to "work" from home today. A pot of khichri is already on the stove.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:07am
Chris:
@doug - can i get back on the ice? i promise never again to say the name lou dobbs - d'oh...back in the box for me...
Fri. 1/29/10 11:08am
annie:

Fri. 1/29/10 11:09am
dc pat:

Fri. 1/29/10 11:11am
north guinea hills:
mr. lou dobbalina?
(set the deldakunkyhomosapien tune)
Fri. 1/29/10 11:12am
Drummer Some:
@Chris
The goalie's got a Dobbs face on his mask. Go maul 'em.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:13am
J-Mar:
Annie, you slow-cook dal and rice with pieces of ginger until you have a nice, porridge-y consistency -- I cook mine for half a day, just keep adding water as needed. Toward the end, you can add vegetables (greens are always nice). Then you heat some oil in a skillet, add a pinch or two of asafoetida, some cumin seeds and sliced onions, then cook till onions are browned. Pour contents of skillet into the dal, cook for just a few minutes longer and you've got khichri.
Oh, wait, that's what you wanted me to elucidate, right? I mean, a snow day's a snow day wherever you are....
Fri. 1/29/10 11:13am
annie:
google is my best friend..
http://mydhaba.blogspot.com/2005/11/shahi-khichri-or-khichdi.html
Fri. 1/29/10 11:14am
annie...:
sweet.. thanks..
Fri. 1/29/10 11:15am
still b/p:
A Dobbs plan no doubt would allow only a modest federal ammo appropriation to "care" for complainers and collectivists with a single Chinese-style pistol shot each.
- - - -
Throat singing would make interesting accompaniment to Almeda Riddle.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:16am
dc pat:
I made this simple-assed red lentil/basamit dish the other night w/ coconut milk/broth and it is by far the most popular dish in my house now.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:17am
Cecile:
Pete, the Day by Day Cafe (a nice long walk, or better, a bus ride) has a good, hearty breakfast. I also like Keys on Robert Street - hugs portions and good granola pancakes. The Four Inns is a good old greasy spoon that makes its food with care. It's in the US Bank building.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:18am
J-Mar:
Sounds awesome, DC Pat.
That recipe looks good, Annie. My version is a little more stripped down, but I do like the combination of onion and cumin together in this dish. It's just the right amount of flavor.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:19am
Ted from Baltimore:
J-Mar -- sounds great; i need to try it, although the wife won't let asafoetida in the house
dc pat -- is there a name for your dish or did you just make it up?
My son just said the other day that he would love to eat nothing but Indian food.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:19am
annie:
i put cumin in almost everything.. ther person for whom i've been cooking lately, though hates it... :(
Fri. 1/29/10 11:20am
dale:
i'm loving this set...does the station have any carol pegg or mr. fox?
Fri. 1/29/10 11:21am
Cecile:
Pete, this site is also quite helpful:
http://heavytable.com/tag/minneapolis/
Annie, no! Not liking cumin is like not liking...er, life.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:22am
Drummer Some:
Jeffrey Davison of Shrunken Planet has played Carol Pegg.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:23am
doug in dc:
I first learned about asafoetida from Cooking With Korma, a PBS show. Korma was a seven foot tall bald Australian hare krishna. This was my fave cooking show for a while.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:23am
dc pat:
to be honest, not my recipe. got it from (gulp) foodtv:
Cook 3 chopped garlic cloves, 1 each chopped onion and carrot, 1/2 tablespoon chopped ginger and a pinch of cayenne in oil. Add 6 cups water (I used veggie chick broth), 1 can coconut milk, 1 cup red lentils and 1/2 cup rice; simmer 20 minutes. Garnish with lime, cilantro and scallions.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:25am
annie:
out of curiosity; wonder what the percentage of food posts there are in the fmu comments section, eh?
Fri. 1/29/10 11:25am
dale:
i had to google alasdair roberts - i was convinced he was in the albion band or some such group from the wayback machine. loved it!
Fri. 1/29/10 11:26am
J-Mar:
Sounds good, DC Pat. Butternut squash would be good in there too -- we eat a lot of dal-butternut combos. Pureed butternut squash is also great substituted for the water in a recipe for chappati/roti.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:26am
Hugo:
I do ... Mr. Fox - double lp.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:27am
Cecile:
I made Mark Bittman's dal recipe, but it's not spicy enough.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:28am
dale:
i have bob & carol pegg's 'he came from the mountains', but i don't care for it as much. carol's solo record is fantastic.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:30am
dale:
...but i'm off-topic. I do a goya 16-bean soup with smoked turkey necks or ham hocks once a week in the crock pot. wintertime demands it.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:31am
Cecile:
@dale, LOL!
That sounds great. I must do that.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:32am
dc pat:
I made stew with potatoes, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, other veggies, w/ chickpeas, indian spices--another huge hit.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:32am
annie:
i have an ox-tail i'm tempted to cook up and not give to the dog..
Fri. 1/29/10 11:32am

Mr. Fox - right here:

The baby is due in April, Laura is touring into March. She's taking it to the limit.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:33am
J-Mar:
Funny, was just thinking the same thing about some dog chow!
Fri. 1/29/10 11:36am
dale:
thanks hugo - i only knew of the 'time has told me' blog and it's rollcall.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:40am
J-Mar:
Awesome show today, Mr. Drummer Some. The musical equivalent of a big pot of soup on this snowy day.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:43am
Drummer Some:
@J-Mar
Just make sure you blow on it first.
Fri. 1/29/10 11:49am
Chris:

Fri. 1/29/10 11:51am

Yet another great show!
Fri. 1/29/10 11:51am
doug in dc:
