not trying to be first

Mon. 1/25/10 12:02pm ?:

diagonal rain is right. maybe even sideways rain . . .

Mon. 1/25/10 12:08pm bw:

oh man am I glad to be tuned in!

Mon. 1/25/10 12:09pm Cecile:

dcp, gotta go, but Robert Sietsema who writes those great restaurant reviews in the Village Voice used to be in Mofungo. The name of the band is after a hearty Puerto Rican dish.

Mon. 1/25/10 12:09pm numbatwombat:

this tony conrad/genesis thing is wicked! tony conrad is one of very few live musicians who have actually made me hallucinate without the aid of exogamous chemicals! this is something i would not have forseen but i sure am glad exists!

Mon. 1/25/10 12:12pm dc pat:

NO WAY!! That's hilarious. I like even more now...

Mon. 1/25/10 12:13pm Cecile:

numbat, Alice Coltrane did that to me once. Amazing. I'd heard lots of criticism of her, but that performance blew all off that away.

It's true, dcp! If I get to NYC, I have to go to at least one place he raves about!

Mon. 1/25/10 12:18pm bw:

and of course you are playing awesome stuff from the FMA

Mon. 1/25/10 12:18pm numbatwombat:

alice coltrane is the jam! yeah. all of the haters must be people who have never actually heard her music. as a lifelong fan of john i could not imagine life without either.

Mon. 1/25/10 12:19pm Liz B.:

Hi everyone and happy Monday... what a crappy-looking one it is here in the NYC area! Blech.

Mon. 1/25/10 12:21pm Kat:

yay, glitches & sparklies

Mon. 1/25/10 12:24pm Ike:

Cecile, I don't always agree with Sietsema's reviews, but they're def. fun to read!

Mon. 1/25/10 12:29pm Cecile:

Exactly. He gets down in the trenches and actually learns about the stuff.

Mon. 1/25/10 12:31pm dagwood:

Hey Liz. Great music for a biblical rain. Anything with a tuba cheers me up.

Mon. 1/25/10 12:32pm Liz B.:

In the battle of tubas vs rain, the tubas always reign victorious!

Mon. 1/25/10 12:37pm Ike:

Right, Cecile. Although sometimes posters from Chowhound are ahead of him in the trenches, but even so, Sietsema often writes more eloquently, and spreads the word nicely.

Great show Liz!

Mon. 1/25/10 12:37pm dc pat:

..AND he was the bass player in a noisy group...

Mon. 1/25/10 12:50pm listener mark:

Great show! Good morning everyone! Stay dry!

Mon. 1/25/10 12:53pm numbatwombat:

f/i are longtime heroes! thank you! hooray!

Mon. 1/25/10 12:54pm Emile:

WOW, AWESOME set!

Mon. 1/25/10 1:03pm bw:

and the whole thing can go on the podcast! !!!

Mon. 1/25/10 1:05pm TC:

A strong third on F/i. Can we get "Threshold" sometime?

Mon. 1/25/10 1:10pm Jay from Scotland:

Yes, ALL=GREAT

Mon. 1/25/10 1:12pm numbatwombat:

it is raining here in florida too. this storm came all the way from california. frequently i am sad florida does not get the wintry california storms so even a little is nice. usually this is the dry season. that f/i track even had franecki after 13 years! it is one i had never heard before. vocokesh of course also ruling.

Mon. 1/25/10 1:22pm Chris:

Liz with the great lunchtime rock-blocks. Love Nothing People - their 1st lp is killer.

Mon. 1/25/10 1:25pm Jay from Scotland:

Mon. 1/25/10 2:04pm dc tap:

man, this is killin.

Mon. 1/25/10 2:08pm Ike:

This is good for trying to drown out the screeching fire alarm test here at work. ("This is a test of the Class E system. Please disregard any sounds or tones you may hear. ...bllllllllLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!")

Mon. 1/25/10 2:12pm Chris:

it's also good for drowning out screeching co-workers who listen to contemporary gospel music.

Mon. 1/25/10 2:12pm lisa:

Bravo for playing "pity party/ snake charm man"- it's a great little 45, but just for the record, the band name is Cruddy, not Crujay.

Mon. 1/25/10 2:24pm matteo(rudie war):

ZONA MC, cya from florence(italy)

Mon. 1/25/10 2:28pm Chris:

I think I can rap faster than Zona. Ready...1-2-3-4...wait, gotta get some coffee first...

Mon. 1/25/10 2:50pm Jay from Scotland:

!!

Mon. 1/25/10 2:50pm Cheri Pi:

Zona is available in the free music archives BTW, for your home listening pleasure.
