Listener comments!

  6:03am
Chuck:

Morning! In complete hind sight I should have given you a song from Group 6...
  6:04am
Meghan:

Morning Chuck! No worries.... Not as many songs today as usual cause of interview....
  6:07am
Chuck:

Gotcha! Forgot about the interview... Group 6 was a local jazz-fusion outfit from up here in the late 80s... I knew the bass player, he eventually married someone I worked with at Bacchus... The song in mind was called "Art with a Capitol 'F'"... Ha!
  6:08am
Dave B:

Coffee - Check
Internet - Check
UTP on WFMU - Check

Morning Chuck and Meghan (and anyone else)
  6:08am
Meghan:

ha! go figure... I had another art song that was making fun of art too, but didn't make the cut...
  6:08am
Meghan:

Morning Dave! Got the logo! Nice job
  6:11am
Dave B:

:-/

Thanks. Still needs more work IMHO. Illustrator is a P.I.T.A. to use.
  6:11am
Chuck:

Good day, Dave! Meg, since I can't get to Facebook using Linux do you have the logo posted elsewhere?
  6:13am
Meghan:

I haven't posted it yet.... Got it this morning. I'll post it here when I get the chance

and yes, Illustrator is a bothersome system....
  6:13am
Dave B:

Chuck, I was thinking about this conundrum you're in regarding Facebook. What flavor of *nix are you using? There might be ways around it.
  6:14am
Dave B:

oh.... and that Gabriel Song was the goods..
  6:16am
Chuck:

Don't ya hate it when software that's supposed to make things easier doesn't.... It's the Mandriva release, Dave... I think it's got more to do with the Mozilla Firefox browser than anything...
  6:18am
Chuck:

I used to have the Red Hat distribution on Linux... They only have it for main frames these days....
  6:19am
Meghan:

I have been using Chrome, the google version of mozilla....
  6:21am
Chuck:

Not to be confused with the Catherine Wheel album of the same name... I'll look into that, there has to be a way....
  6:22am
Dave B:

I'll ask some of the *nix weenies at work what they're doing. Don't want to turn this into a tech chat. Maybe a virtual windows machine or WINE packaging of IE or something. Meg, when you can (and because you can) can you make the offline introductions?
  6:23am
Meghan:

ahhh, no worries! I pass it off to both of you!
  6:24am
pauldepiperssonapaganpoet:

well whole industries get built up around programs., like flash and after effects, photoshop etc. Thats why in many ways they are quite complex to use. wow songs on art. nice idea meghan. a blank canvas so to speak;) a vast open expanse of arty farty weirdness. i dont do requests either so my request isnt; could you play the art bears? thx
  6:24am
Dave B:

Helping people, it's in my DNA.
  6:27am
Meghan:

Art Bears.... who is that by Paul? I never ran across that in my searches..... I doubt I will get to it, due to interview coming up....but i will search!
  6:27am
Chuck:

I just don't understand why my current version of IE doesn't seem to work anymore... I will take 12 hours or more to just open my home page, if at all! No, I'm NOT kidding!
  6:29am
Dave B:

that is odd... and that last track was GRRRRRRRRRREAT!
  6:32am
Chuck:

Hey, I get work from sculptors... Not so rare... Yes, Amadou & Mariam was most excellent!
  6:34am
Dave B:

Just dawned on me
"Love With A Thinker" - Utopia

kinda sculptorally related, if only in title. - HA!
  6:35am
Meghan:

ha.... true!
  6:36am
pauldepiperssonapaganpoet:

Hi Meghan - Art bears are a great avant garde band with the cult members dagmar krause, fred frith and chris cutler, active late 70s and early 80s. their second album Winter Songs comprises fourteen short songs that were based on carvings on the stylobate of the Amiens Cathedral in France. great band
  6:38am
Dave B:

@ Paul, if Frith is in it, it's gotta be good. Thanks for the lead.
  6:38am
Meghan:

ohhhhh interesting.... I will have to check them out!
  6:40am
Chuck:

Having Liz Frazer in this song realy makes it happen!
  6:41am
Meghan:

That was what made me buy the album..... my brother got me into them cause of this song.... Now you can't find the album anywhere. Thank god I was a music pack rat in high school.....
  6:42am
Chuck:

I know! I've looked for it, can't find the whole thing anywhere...
  6:44am
Meghan:

Well, if you can get mediafire working, I'll send it to you.....
  6:46am
Chuck:

I can get stuff through Mediafire... I usually use Rapidshare though...
  6:47am
Meghan:

Well i will send it over......
  6:48am
Chuck:

Thanks, Meg!!!
  6:54am
Chuck:

Don't let your landlord near her, Meghan! He'll swipe her stuff!
  6:55am
Dave B:

Back in the early 80's during my CBGB days, Sean Taggart was the man on the L.E.S.
  6:56am
Meghan:

ha! no my landlord collects German pop art stuff... so I am safe
  7:00am
Chuck:

One never knows.... What about tacky post cards though? I get lots of giggles out of them... Hope everyone else does too...
  7:07am
Dave B:

On a related note, the "Who Shot Rock And Roll" exhibit is still at the Brooklyn Museum. You have until the end of the month to check it out. I highly recommend it.
  7:08am
Meghan:

I was there for the opening to see Blondie, but never made it up to the actual exhibit......
  7:10am
Dave B:

that was intended as a royal "You"

;-)
  7:14am
Chuck:

Jeez, I remember that I fried my cassette tape of this Kinks album from playing it too often... hehe...

  7:25am
Meghan:

Hey there Mike!
  7:27am
Meghan:

Wow, I didn't know Cage was still "performing" that piece.... and with an orchestra none the less!
  7:29am
Maestroso:

Good morning Meghan,
I'm a little late to this show (missed two in a row), and you probably have more material than you need, but here's a suggestion: Paint the Road, on Adrian Belew's first(?) solo album.
  7:30am
Meghan:

Glad to see you back Maestroso! Not as much music today due to a 2 part interview..... second part coming up soon....
  7:31am
Dave B:

For the record, Wendy Sutter and Ira and Phillip Glass will be performing at Apple SoHo tonight @7. Apple's filming it for a future iTunes thing.

They're performing Allen Ginsberg's great Vietnam-era poem Wichita Vortex Sutra.
  7:31am
Mike in Chicago:

wild footage!
  7:34am
Dave B:

didn't he proclaim "I'm that guy from Rock Band" at the Golden Globes?
  7:35am
Dirty Old Man:

Ahh! Lamb-bertsville
  7:36am
Meghan:

Oh interesting..... nap then I might have to go check that out!
  7:49am
Chuck:

Are you gonna get to "Vincent" by Don McLean, Meghan? Just a thought...
  7:50am
Meghan:

Nope..... didn't get to it.... would have been in the set with Dylan and Young
  7:52am
Chuck:

Would have made the most sense there... It's okay, it's his second most played tune anyway... I won't really miss it much...
  7:55am
rb in scotland:

Afternoon all..!
  7:55am
Chuck:

Whoa! There's a can of worms! Instrumentals can be long...
  7:56am
Meghan:

Morning RB! Ha... I know chuck.... but something I can't pass up, you know....
  7:58am
Mike in Chicago:

RB- have a beer for me!
  7:59am
Chuck:

Gives you the chance to delve into some jazzy numbers though... Something you don't get to very often...
  8:01am
Meghan:

EXACTLY!
  8:02am
Chuck:

Oh! I'll have to send you Evan Foster's solo work! Super surfy guitar pieces from a few years ago...
  8:03am
rb in scotland:

Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy - "I Only Have Eyes For You"
  8:04am
Dave B:

So, is it instrumentals of songs that would otherwise have lyrics, or just songs sans words?

Oh, and if I find time to revise/tighten up that logo design, whats the drop dead deadline? Midnight?
  8:04am
rb in scotland:

Mike...thanks, and likewise!

Don't forget the cheez! I just got an 18 volume collection of "lounge" music. A little Esquevel, anyone?
  8:07am
Meghan:

Dave for you.... I'll give you to next week.... hehe.

Instrumentals don't have to be versions of songs without the words... but music without words in general. Like the great jazz pieces or bands that only perform instrumental music...
  8:07am
Dave B:

return volley, Mike...

  8:57am
Andy in Berlin:

I guess no Paintwork by the Fall. Shucks!
  7:28pm
Lenny:

ART IS MADE BY ORDINARY PEOPLE.Creatures having only virtures can hardly be imagined making art. It's difficult to picture the Virgin Mary painting landscapes. Or Batman throwing pots. The flawless creature wouldn't need to make art. And so, ironically, the ideal artist is scarcely a theoretical figure at all. If art is made by ordinary people, then you'd have to allow that the ideal artist would be an ordinary person too, with the whole usual mixed bag of traits that real human beings possess. This is a giant hint about art, because it suggests that our flaws and weaknesses, while often obstacles to our getting work done, are a source of strenght as well. Something about art making has to do with overcoming things, giving us a clear opportunity for doing things in ways we have always known we should do them.
