Listener comments!

Sat. 1/9/10 11:03am david:

This was a solid #1 from BJ Thomas from last week. Great lead off track!

Sat. 1/9/10 11:04am DeemerDave:

Good morning, Michael, and good morning to all your listeners.

Sat. 1/9/10 11:04am Michael from the Left Coast:

Street the Beat right?

Sat. 1/9/10 11:05am paul:

Can one or all the experts please confirm today that the Dukes of the Stratosphear were indeed XTC and not a band from the 60's? Thanks.

Sat. 1/9/10 11:12am Frank:

@paul, confirmed.

Sat. 1/9/10 11:14am paul:

Thanks, Frank.

Sat. 1/9/10 11:15am The Three Wise Men and the Good Lord:

Yes Paul, there is an XTC and they were the Dukes.

Sat. 1/9/10 11:16am Frank:

Music Experts: Did any of you see 'Cadillac Records'? Was it really as awful as I thought? And where was Bo Diddley and the other Chess brother??

Sat. 1/9/10 11:18am Scott:

What is the most sampled song?

Sat. 1/9/10 11:22am paul:

I've always heard that "Funky Drummer" was the most sampled.

Sat. 1/9/10 11:36am geetus:

Thanks for putting me up on The Street Beat -- a bunch of other great videos on youtube. One question though: why are Hispanic guys from the Bronx singing in anglo voices a more jarring, "exotic" juxtaposition for you guys than the Beatles themselves singing "black" or Alex Chilton singing "British"?

Sat. 1/9/10 11:40am Biggles:

Is there anyone other than Link Wray to credit for the first power chord?

Sat. 1/9/10 11:43am Michael from the Left Coast:

They used to use this track for a radio commercials for an old Long Island nightclub called Speaks--I can almost hear the announcer's voice over the opening chords

Sat. 1/9/10 11:44am DeemerDave:

AC/DC's car commercial.

Sat. 1/9/10 11:47am DeemerDave:

My mistake, It's a Rock Band 2 commercial.

Sat. 1/9/10 11:53am KC:

I always thought that Elvis Costello quote was from David Lee Roth, not EC himself

Sat. 1/9/10 11:57am Chris J:

I'm reading an article about Anthony Bozza in my college alma mater's quarterly magazine and turn FMU on and realize the author's on. Freaky!

Sat. 1/9/10 12:12pm Jennifer:

re. white guys covering black guys' music: one of the best examples is the Beach Boys' cover of Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made to Love Her" on Wild Honey, '67.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:17pm Mark Dillman:

responses to other posts:
1.) Link Wray I think rightfully deserves the power chord credit.
2.)As a movie "Cadillac Records" was not horrible but not so great either. "Pirate Radio" was worse.

Memphis soul music was great and Willie Mitchell kept real soul music on the radio during the disco era. God bless him for that!

Sat. 1/9/10 12:21pm listener:

Quietest? "Peggy Sue", perhaps?

Sat. 1/9/10 12:21pm paul:

Sugar Shack was pretty quiet.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:22pm paul:

Make that Sugar Town

Sat. 1/9/10 12:24pm paul:

Check my correction

Sat. 1/9/10 12:27pm paul:

The great Dukes/XTC goof continues...I love it. You guys are funny.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:30pm C:

would the african-american i'd pees be successful without fergie's stripper good looks?

Sat. 1/9/10 12:30pm drewo:

Thanks for the first Top 10 countdown I have heard in about 30 years!

Sat. 1/9/10 12:31pm Mark Dillman:

Sundazed Records has seven LPs by Dick Dale scheduled for release in March. Check their website for titles.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:34pm Kelly:

I can't keep up with the awesome amounts of quotes coming from you three during your 'Talk Over Top Ten' segment. Such as, thank you Michael Shelley..."Can't they just get a homeless guy, auto-tune him, and give him a hundred dollars?" Classic.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:34pm paul:

Madonna was the drummer in the Breakfast Club. (Not the movie.)

Sat. 1/9/10 12:36pm seang:

you guys like Nellie McKay?--great NYC pop chanteuse

Sat. 1/9/10 12:36pm paul:

Yes, the band, not the movie.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:37pm Gleek:

Madonna was the fluffer in Deep Throat (the movie)

Sat. 1/9/10 12:39pm paul:

Bllue album was the 67-70 compilation. Earlier years had a red cover. Come on, guys.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:44pm paul:

I thought Scott only got a minute.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:46pm Gleek:

Scott should have his lips stapled together

Sat. 1/9/10 12:47pm paul:

Get the 38 track Sunrise 2-Cd edition

Sat. 1/9/10 12:49pm Tom:

When was the first time you (3) heard WFMU?

Sat. 1/9/10 12:49pm john:

Did Michael Jackson's "Thriller" commingle the Top Ten and Top R&B, and from then on R&B pretty much ruled the Top Ten?
When Green Day was #1, I was pleasently shocked to hear punk rock in the top ten

Sat. 1/9/10 12:51pm DeemerDave:

I recently saw "It Might Get Loud". What redeeming quality can you give to the work of Jimmy Page, Edge, or Jack White.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:51pm yo:

Have a 60 song 4 cd sun sessions.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:54pm motherboy:

is it true that springsteen's born in the usa was the first mass produced cd?

Sat. 1/9/10 12:56pm paul:

Play side 2, too.

Sat. 1/9/10 12:58pm Gleek:

play the best song ever , really quick

Sat. 1/9/10 2:07pm Jessica Brand:

How can I get "Big Foot"? I can't find it anywhere?
Thanks!

Sat. 1/16/10 12:17pm Peter:
