Lang:

I love the snowflake backdrop EFD!!
  11:11pm
Julie T.:

Do you podcast your shows? Most times it's hard for me to listen until it's over.
  11:11pm
Megacosm:

if I didn't know better, I'd say Little Drummer Boy was off of one of those K-Tel Meco records. The Meco Star Wars (And Other Galacitic Funk) album was a smash hit in my house in '77.
  11:14pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

How perfect a Yenta singing about the King of the Orient-aah

MLNW yes, that was a Beach Boys cover by the Smithereens.
  11:28pm
cissy davis:

evan? did you find the linda hughes tune this week?
  11:37pm
efd:

Julie, I can't podcast my show, but it is archived and if you email me (evan at wfmu dot org) I can tell you how to do kind of a manual-style podcast.

Cissy/Toni/Cheri, no Linda Hughes I'm afraid, but I hope you'll enjoy the show anyway.
  11:37pm
Gabe:

Punky Meadows! Guiffria! Turn that ANGEL logo upside down. It still sez ... ANGEL.
  11:39pm
slugluv1313:

aaaggggghhhhhh ANGEL!!!!!!! (all kidding aside YES i actually OWN this 45 -- pic sleeve and everything, featuring ANGEL in those oh-so-fabulous 1970s white jumpsuits and that extra-long-FEATHERED hair!!!!!!!)
  11:41pm
cissy davis:

god bless brittney murphy may she rest peacefuly,,,evan you know i always enjoy what you play,,,ho ho ho!!!!!!!
  11:41pm
john:

So nice to hear a Roy Wood song at this time of year that isn't I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day!
  11:47pm
efd:

glad you appreciated that, John - i thought it would be nice to change it up a bit.

Although I do love "I Wish It Could Be Christmas..." too.
  11:48pm
Vanda Young:

Baby Jesus will have a mohawk
  11:50pm
geno:

  11:52pm
toni daytona:

well evan us gals gotta skip out,,,but we'll still listen have a wonderfull holiday,,,g'nite see you soon=)=)
  11:53pm
Danne D:

Merre Christmas and Happy Holidays all you funk fans out there :) Hope the season treats you all well.

That Angel track was interesting as it sounded sorta like some sort of random John Wetton type thing or another.

Accidental poem:
We all know what every lady
Would like to see
Under the tree:
E - F - D!

:D
  11:56pm
Danne D:

why do I have visions of toni and company taking a trip down Evan's chimney on Christmas Eve? :)

As a total aside this set has randomly jarred my memory to remind me of the very first record I technically owned (in the sense that one of my siblings said I could have it) was a Beach Boys 45" that has long since disappeared from my posseession. I don't remember the a-side but I vaguely remember the b-side as being something called "Funky Christmas" - you can pretty much figure out the time frame that THAT record must be from :)
  11:57pm
Danne D:

Midnight Ticket Mirage?!?
  11:57pm
Lang:

You are the funk machine Evan!
  11:57pm
Vanda Young:

I will replay that Angel song from the archive after the traditional Christmas meal... so I can make room for pie.
  11:59pm
Lang:

we have this 45 here at the Key Lang homestead. So great to hear it on the airwaves!!
  11:59pm
slugluv1313:

here's one for ya, Evan! (truthfully one of *my* "holiday favorites" -- even if it IS just so durn *cute*!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wrc6Q7acME
  12:00am
Danne D:

I think my memory has played tricks on me.
It appears the song is "Funky New Year" by the Eagles.

And yep....it was the Eagles.

It was this record:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/please-come-home-for-christmas/id186832642
  12:01am
slugluv1313:

Vanda, that is EXACTLY why that Angel song was CREATED!!!
  12:01am
Danne D:

And to close out this trip down memory lane, apparently the 45 actually charted in 1978. So there you go. Danne D's first technically owned record :)
  12:02am
Amanda:

DD -- Heh. I thought that didn't sound quite right, but I didn't say anything since my personal time frame is that of "Funky, Funky Christmas" by New Kids on the Block.
  12:03am
toni daytona:

evan i just came back to say i want you all to myself,,,bye-bye
  12:06am
Danne D:

Amanda! :) Now it's like Christmas with you here :) I think it was the seeming incongruity in my mind of the band with the two songs - that is they didn't seem terribly Eagles-like to me. Not particulary Beach Boys-like either which is probably why I mixed 'em up. Found a link to it on a rather sketchy looking site with cyrillic letters: http://www.vbox7.com/play:413d2a96
  12:06am
Hermínio:

Evan, this is a brazilian WFMU fan istening to your show from Natal, Brazil
  12:08am
Danne D:

anyhow, Evan actually could start '10 with the 70s with that song.

Feliz Natal - Hermínio!
  12:08am
efd:

Hola, Herminio! Thanks for listening, and for the comment.

I know that Spanish isn't the primary language in Brazil, but hopefully "hola" is close enough. :)
  12:10am
Amanda:

AWRIGHT BIG STAR! Someone had to say it.
  12:12am
Danne D:

btw, EFD, I totally cheated and used babelfish in my greeting to Herminio ;)
  12:12am
Danne D:

so you ready for Santa, Amanda?
I'm probably getting coal :(
  12:18am
toni daytona:

efd--i hate to be selfish but i want YOU under my tree xmas morning.
  12:19am
Danne D:

Wow I haven't heard this in like a million years!
  12:22am
Amanda:

Love to have ya.

Yes, I guess I am ready for Santa! Hard to believe you've been anything but good -- your pledge is all paid up and everything.
  12:22am
Vanda Young:

Augie, my boy...
  12:25am
Sarah:

Stan Freberg! My sister and I used to recite his bits when we were kids.
  12:26am
Danne D:

Whoa! Amanda really must have an in with santa - she even knows my pledge status ;o)
  12:26am
The Maelman:

Surely Thank God It's Not Christmas by SPARKS is in the bullpen?
  12:28am
efd:

but... but... it *IS* Christmas!
  12:31am
Sybil:

Surely, efd, you can hold two mutually contradictory thoughts in your head at the same time.
  12:32am
toni daytona:

efd i'm really loving your show tonite!!!!!!
  12:36am
Jessica:

You're a sweet one, Mister EFD.
Happy sun's return!
  12:43am
Jessica:

This sounds mighty Art Brut-y.
  12:46am
efd:

Indeed! I guess it's hard for anything with his voice to sound otherwise.
  12:50am
rachel jansen:

who can not love efd!?!?!?!?!
  12:50am
?:

Great show EFD! Happy Holidays ... Clay P
  12:52am
Danne D:

I heard scrooge pledged to efd, but then didn't pay, rachel :)
  12:53am
efd:

thank you, mr. pigeon! the next song's for you.
  1:05am
Joshua K:

Oh dear, whats going on... Im hearing such things... I don't know what to say...
  1:05am
Danne D:

lol EFD expands "everyone knows the claus"'s lead as the most played Hanson song on FMU. 5-2 over MMMBop
  1:07am
john:

After Elton and Hanson, virtually nowhere to go but down, so I'll stumble off to bed. Merry happy, everybody!
  1:07am
efd:

MMMBop might as well just pack it in. It'll never catch up.
  1:08am
Zanderoid:

Isn't Tyler Hanson in a band with Bun E. Carlos now?
  1:09am
john:

Well, and this one.
  1:09am
Danne D:

Yay :) Even if this is an x-mas staple it never gets old :)

Well yeah MMMBop won't catch up until the reincarnation of Greasy Kids Stuff ;o)
  1:10am
DanneD:

Correction btw it's 4-2 for the 'claus - still amazed at Kenzo's work that has the live accuplaylist stuff automatically archived like that.
  1:12am
efd:

that's tAylor hanson, and yes he is. We'll be hearing them next week... not that I'm giving anything away.
  1:15am
Joshua K:

Do you think the kids at school made fun of him and called him Taylor HAMson
  1:16am
efd:

only if he'd gone to school in new jersey.
  1:18am
Santeater:

Can Mannheim Steamroller be far behind?
  1:20am
efd:

yes, they can be very very far behind.

they're stuck somewhere with the trans-siberian orchestra, i think. who we also won't be hearing.
  1:21am
Joshua K:

I like the ventures and james brown christmas albums, even though they might get overplayed.
  1:23am
Danne D:

OOF - that Claus(e) pun Evan!
  1:26am
Al Jardine:

I LOVE John Stamos! Thanks!
  1:30am
Danne D:

Believe it or not this is the first time I've heard this song this christmas season :) glad to see it on the list
  1:31am
Sybil:

Speaking of my love for Tin Huey and all that springs forth from its ruins...

Danne, I believe efd usually plays this at this time of year. I'm waiting on one more thing...
  1:33am
efd:

Sybil, is the song you're waiting for performed by someone whose name starts with "D" and ends with "n?" If not, I'm afraid I might have forgotten something...
  1:33am
Danne D:

Sybil's careful listening probably means more presents for her than for Danne this year...
  1:34am
Dee Wassell:

Keep playing the amazing music!! <33 WFMU and Evan Funk Davies. Thanks for the tickets, that made my night!
  1:37am
Sybil:

Uhhhh... not what I had in mind, but I'm thinking of the same D-person you're thinking of, it'll do as well!
  1:38am
efd:

oh wait, I think I know what Sybil's waiting for, and it's not what I was thinking. Actually, I don't think anyone's waiting for the song I was thinking of, but I'll play it anyway.

Then I'll play the song I think Sybil's waiting for.
  1:40am
Sybil:

I actually understood that comment. I think.
  1:40am
Danne D:

I wait with bated breath :)
  1:43am
Danne D:

awww :( I loved Top Cat
  1:44am
Sybil:

Yup, that's the D-man!

Too bad about Top Cat. He was the coolest.
  1:46am
efd:

let's see if i guessed right with the next track, Sybil...
  1:46am
A:

Anyone else getting a weird Dave Thomas vibe from Dion?
  1:48am
Sybil:

Heh, you got it!
  1:49am
Danne D:

OLE!
  1:49am
efd:

:)

where is Augie Rios now, that's the question.
  1:49am
Klaus:

Augie ist wunderbar! Danke Schoen.
  1:51am
dave:

it used to be that christmas started for me the first time i heard "have a holly jolly christmas".

now it's "donde esta santa claus".

wfmu has had a profound, and somewhat ambiguous, effect on on my holiday season is all i'm saying.
  1:53am
Sybil:

Augie Rios had, apparently, another, lesser-known Christmas song:
http://poparchivesblog.blogspot.com/2006/12/augie-rios-ol-fatso-obscure-christmas.html
  1:53am
Sybil:

Sorry, I was too lazy t0o tinyurl that one.
  1:56am
Joshua K:

I would post something from hugeurl.com but I don't want to defile this playlist on such a joyous occasion
  1:57am
efd:

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, everyone! thanks for listening!
  1:57am
cissy davis:
