Playlist for The Evan "Funk" Davies Show - December 15, 2009

Wednesdays 9pm - Midnight on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Every show starts with a cut from the ‘70s: Rediscovering the forgotten rockers, revisiting the once-hated disco beats, replaying the power-pop favorites. Next: copious amounts of new releases and occasional live bands. Also: I’m the biggest Nick Gilder fan on WFMU.

Listener comments!

Tue. 12/15/09 11:11pm dave:

if aliens were ever to come to land on my front lawn, come up to my apartment, and say "oh one called dave, what is this thing you earthlings call 'rock'?" i think i could probably achieve a significant step forward in intergalactic cultural exchange by playing witch's "seer" for them.

Tue. 12/15/09 11:13pm One of the Tuesday night dogs:

OK, this hydrant has been christened for the evening.

Tue. 12/15/09 11:16pm Cory:

Is this song by the slew a remix?

Tue. 12/15/09 11:16pm toni & rachel:

dearest evan
happy holidays
with love
toni d. and rachel j. =)=)

Tue. 12/15/09 11:17pm Joe B:

There is a Witch/Cobra Verde supergroup releasing an album in March!

Tue. 12/15/09 11:17pm ?:

sigh!

Tue. 12/15/09 11:19pm dave:

i'm guessing the witch/cobra verde release will have a CPSC-mandated warning sticker. wouldn't want any unwary consumers getting their faces melted.

Tue. 12/15/09 11:21pm ME!:

talk about musical talent -- efd put the ME in the do re ME!

Tue. 12/15/09 11:21pm nec13:

It's John Lackey Night on Evan "Funk" Davies Show.

Tue. 12/15/09 11:21pm Joe B:

Sweet Apple:

J. Mascis (drums/guitar/vocals); Cobra Verde's Tim Parnin (guitar); John Petkovic (vocals/guitar) and Witch's Dave Sweetapple (bass/vocals)

Tue. 12/15/09 11:23pm efd:

HI everyone! I'm Wacky for Lackey!

Tue. 12/15/09 11:25pm nec13:

The Red Sox sign John Lackey. Meanwhile, the Mets have cornered the market on backup catchers. Not to worry, though, I think Glendon Rusch is still available.

Tue. 12/15/09 11:27pm toni daytona:

evan could you please play some holiday music for rachel & me,,,,thank you ever soooo much,,,=)=)

Tue. 12/15/09 11:28pm efd:

toni, you'll have to wait til next week's show - 3 hours of Xmas music inna efd stylee.

Tue. 12/15/09 11:32pm G:

In high school in the 70s I had to pass through the Baker Street tube station ten times a week. Lots of busking going on in there.

Tue. 12/15/09 11:32pm efb:

Tue. 12/15/09 11:33pm Lost in Space robot:

Tue. 12/15/09 11:51pm efd:

dave, as a frequent pedant myself I will rarely criticize anyone else for being the same - thanks for the info.

Dan, on further examination it looks like that Mantles 7" is a Slumberland release, so should be fairly easy to track down.

Tue. 12/15/09 11:58pm Lang:

Thanks for keeping me awake buddy! Yeah!

Wed. 12/16/09 12:01am Sleepy Camel:

Wed. 12/16/09 12:12am john:

Hey Evan!

I like this Big Pink record, but if the world is coming down to Ride tribute bands, we're all in a lot more trouble than I realized...

Wed. 12/16/09 12:18am efd:

It's funny because it's true...

Wed. 12/16/09 12:19am toni d.:

Wed. 12/16/09 12:34am Joe:

nanananananana I love songs that go nananananananana

Wed. 12/16/09 12:35am :-P:

Since it's insane request time on the comments, how about some Jacques Detergent?

Wed. 12/16/09 12:41am john:

Now THIS is genius.

Wed. 12/16/09 12:42am Michael from the Left Coast:

Nice lyric change to suit the different gender

Wed. 12/16/09 12:42am efd:

you know, I was supposed to go see Jacques Detergent on Sunday, but I couldn't make it.

No, really, I couldn't make it. What makes you think I was scared?

Wed. 12/16/09 12:43am john:

I mean, seriously, it's even better than if Cher had covered Hooked On A Feeling

Wed. 12/16/09 12:50am osvi:

Its EFD with the toxic, crusty, snotty beats. Peace, WFMU rules!

Wed. 12/16/09 12:52am toni daytona:

before i sign off have i told you that you're re sweet,

Wed. 12/16/09 12:55am :-P:

Scared of a demonic giggling fit, you mean?

Wed. 12/16/09 1:02am Joshua K:

I like this musics

Wed. 12/16/09 1:03am efd:

I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about.

Wed. 12/16/09 1:04am efd:

Wed. 12/16/09 1:16am efd:

great, the neutrality of my Wikipedia page has been in dispute for a year and a half. I'm not sure if I can go on.

Wed. 12/16/09 1:20am claynferno:

hey evan! good on ya. I heard your show last week and was psyched to see that the song that I wanted to grab (but i didn't catch the name) was on the playlist. cobrastyle. i thank you and itunes thanks you! - clay

Wed. 12/16/09 1:21am Michael from the Left Coast:

Nice! How about some Big Jim Sullivan sitar music

Wed. 12/16/09 1:31am efd:

Michael, I think that one song will be the only sitar rock we hear this evening.

Wed. 12/16/09 1:31am Wikipedia:

And we've also tagged his bio for excessive giggling and occasional failure to cue in advance. Spankies!

Wed. 12/16/09 1:34am efd:

great.

Wed. 12/16/09 1:35am Wikipedia:

Don't get too excited now.

Wed. 12/16/09 1:39am agnes:

buenaaa loco!

Wed. 12/16/09 1:39am Michael from the Left Coast:

The late great Patty Donahue! Is that Mars Williams playing sax?

Wed. 12/16/09 1:41am efd:

don't see that name on the CD, so can't say for sure.

Wed. 12/16/09 1:48am Michael from the Left Coast:

I would wager it was him

Wed. 12/16/09 1:54am Michael from the Left Coast:

Now that I think of it it was probably Ralph Carney, not Mars Williams.
I'm digging this tune--who are these guys?

Wed. 12/16/09 1:57am efd:

Yep, Ralph Carney is on there.

Valley Lodge are great! I'm currently in negotiations to have them come down and do a set sometime, hopefully in the next couple of months. One of them is based in LA I think - John Kimbrough? Comedian Dave Hill is also in the band.

Wed. 12/16/09 11:19am Henry:

Hey EFD!
Did you ever get the chance to listen to the Adults' single I sent you? Hope you liked it.
On another note: you should open your show with The Tubes "Slipped My Disco" sometime. From the 70s as you so often do on the EFD show!
