Morning! What in the world was going on there?

Thu. 11/5/09 6:03am From: Joshua K

Just some night people radio shuffleboard is all. The usual

Thu. 11/5/09 6:03am From: Meghan

Ha! Morning! Hard to explain... but a poor man's version of shuffleboard... I have been there... that last hour is hard, so you do what you can to keep going!

Thu. 11/5/09 6:05am From: Chuck

What do you use for puck? Bad CDs?

Thu. 11/5/09 6:07am From: Meghan

a dog's tennis ball... the pusher was a ping pong paddle.... and you had to stop the ball before it hits the console

Thu. 11/5/09 6:09am From: Chuck

Ha! A funny way to keep busy!

Thu. 11/5/09 6:11am From: Meghan

Yep! remember listening to Jess and me lose our minds around that time? It would have been a matter of time before we started to do the same.... The best part was Nachum coming in to see what was going on....

Thu. 11/5/09 6:11am From: Joshua K

They pretend they are somewhere for the last hour so this week they were on a cruise ship

Thu. 11/5/09 6:13am From: Chuck

Just don't have them start playing touch football!

Thu. 11/5/09 6:15am From: Chuck

Ah, Fats Waller! The originator of the phrase, "One never knows, do one?"...

Thu. 11/5/09 6:21am From: Andy in Berlin

I could see this one coming a mile a way. But I guess you had to do it.

Thu. 11/5/09 6:26am From: Chuck

Well, Willie wrote the song after all...

Thu. 11/5/09 6:27am From: Andy in Berlin

Whoa - it pays to listen live today! I'm honored to be of service, ma'am.

Thu. 11/5/09 6:28am From: Joshua K

This theme is insane in the membrane

Thu. 11/5/09 6:29am From: Meghan

hehe... see, it goes to show, you all are inspiration for the shows! the more input I get the better the show!

Thu. 11/5/09 6:29am From: Chuck

Folks are going mental with joy...

Thu. 11/5/09 6:33am From: Andy in Berlin

Any chance we'll be hearing Crazy Arms today?

Thu. 11/5/09 6:34am From: Joshua K

I like this set cause its extra funky

Thu. 11/5/09 6:35am From: Meghan

You know, I came across it and unfortunately didn't make the cut.... That is the hardest part- cutting songs out

Thu. 11/5/09 6:37am From: Andy in Berlin

Today is such an emotional roller coaster.

Thu. 11/5/09 6:39am From: Meghan

Just enjoy the ride- you know you will end up back at the beginning all safe and sound

Thu. 11/5/09 6:46am From: Andy in Berlin

Now that we've segued into Mad, I suppose Madness by Madness will pop up. But what about Fugs singing Alan Ginsberg's Howl?

Thu. 11/5/09 6:50am From: Meghan

oh it's fun to keep you all guessing.... and then i take a wrong turn....

Thu. 11/5/09 6:58am From: Andy in Berlin

well after the first two sets I was prepared to believe that you were going to make a differentiation between crazy and mad but then you threw in that Bowie song. And now you're back to pure crazy. So yes, I'm guessing, but so far no wrong turns.

Thu. 11/5/09 6:59am From: Chuck

Wow, Meg... I shouldn've sent you Pylon's original version of this song!

Thu. 11/5/09 7:00am From: Meghan

I got to say... i do like this version....

Thu. 11/5/09 7:04am From: Chuck

Humm... Chameleons a follow up to this?

Thu. 11/5/09 7:06am From: Meghan

/me smacks my head.... no! I am such an idiot!

Thu. 11/5/09 7:08am From: Chuck

Oh well... It's early yet. Did you just forget the song when making your playlist?

Thu. 11/5/09 7:16am From: Meghan

yes.... I am so forgetful as of late.... worked too many hours this past month. Now that is over with, hopefully my mind will come back to me....

Thu. 11/5/09 7:16am From: Dirty Old Man

That's how you started? What, no casting couch?
BTW, Dory Previn today??

Thu. 11/5/09 7:18am From: Meghan

Dory didn't make the cut..... But here's a set dedicated to you....

Thu. 11/5/09 7:20am From: Dirty Old Man

Bummer!

Thu. 11/5/09 7:23am From: Chuck

This could be revisited... There's still plenty of songs out there...

Thu. 11/5/09 7:33am From: Joshua K

Do the state songs by order they were added to the union

Thu. 11/5/09 7:33am From: Dave B in NYC

do the states by the order they joined the Union!

Thu. 11/5/09 7:34am From: Joshua K

Yeah what he said

Thu. 11/5/09 7:34am From: Dave B in NYC

MORNING! Joshua said it first! (hat tip!)

Thu. 11/5/09 7:34am From: Joshua K

You phrased it better though.

Thu. 11/5/09 7:35am From: Meghan

Great minds.... hehe...

Thu. 11/5/09 7:40am From: Chuck

I'm still looking at the laughing theme... How about Laugh Lines by the Cocteau Twins and Laughing at You by the Detroit Cobras?

Thu. 11/5/09 7:40am From: jeff p

looks like i made it for the rawk set!

Thu. 11/5/09 7:42am From: Meghan

Hells Yeah! Just in time!

and those are both good Chuck!

Thu. 11/5/09 7:44am From: Joshua K

I always think of this when its too late. Theres several black flag songs about being insane or crazy people.

Thu. 11/5/09 7:44am From: Andy in Berlin

How about Laugh Laugh by the Beau Brummels?

Thu. 11/5/09 7:45am From: Meghan

Joshua... think really hard about laugh songs.....

Oh, good one Andy...

Thu. 11/5/09 7:47am From: Chuck

Yeah, Andy's on the right track... Also, Laughin' and Clowin' by Sam Cooke and Don't Laugh by the Louvin Bros. are in my list...

Thu. 11/5/09 7:48am From: The Clown

Ha Ha!

Thu. 11/5/09 7:49am From: Dave B in NYC

oh - Laughing?

"Laughing Matter / Esperanza" by Fred Frith.

Thu. 11/5/09 7:51am From: Andy in Berlin

I emailed about this but since we're discussing it here, what about Elvis singing Are You Lonely Tonight where he just keeps laughing and can barely sing the sing.

Thu. 11/5/09 7:51am From: Meghan

gah.... clowns... so scary.... Oh, a good theme idea though....

Thu. 11/5/09 7:52am From: Meghan

Yep, that works... anything with laughter in it works...kinda like my bells...

Thu. 11/5/09 7:53am From: Andy in Berlin

...sing the SONG. Sorry.

P.S. Clowns is a whole topic in itself!

Thu. 11/5/09 7:54am From: Chuck

Laugh at Me by Ian Hunter and Honey I Laugh at You by the Sharks also come to mind...

Thu. 11/5/09 7:56am From: Andy in Berlin

If you're gonna be like that, then Laugh At Me by Sonny Bono.

P.S. If you're going to play Institutionalized then you have to play Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment.

Thu. 11/5/09 7:59am From: Parq

Ah, "Institutionalized". A great song, though Belinda Miller owns it after her marathon finale rendition a few years ago. For next week, Slim Gaillard's "Laughing In Rhythm", eh?

Thu. 11/5/09 7:59am From: Joshua K

Was there ever mention of a jail/prison theme?

Thu. 11/5/09 8:00am From: Dave B in NYC

"It Is To Laugh" by the Beau Hunks (even though its only a minute long)

Thu. 11/5/09 8:00am From: jeff p

the rawk version is almost always the correct choice!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:02am From: Andy in Berlin

Since you really stuck so closely to pure crazy, I think Madness as a theme is still on the table, no?

Thu. 11/5/09 8:04am From: Meghan

Great suggestions everyone! And now I am going to have to look up that version... Belinda as in Greasy Kids Stuff Belinda?

Yes, Madness is still on the table then! And yes there was a prison/jail idea... but I don't know if I had mentioned it on air or if it was at home....

Thu. 11/5/09 8:06am From: Bad Ronald

Love that Queen tune! Any chance you got the Dickies' "Mental Ward" or Ramones' "Psychotherapy" handy?

Thu. 11/5/09 8:06am From: Dave B - NYC

Back to the states - here's your playlist order:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_date_of_statehood

;-)

Thu. 11/5/09 8:07am From: Meghan

Hey there Bad Ronald..... I did have Ramones one... but went another direction... we are now realizing that the MAD theme is still open, so it may have to go in that one....

Thu. 11/5/09 8:08am From: Meghan

hehe.... thanks Dave!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:09am From: Andy in Berlin

You might have to do an all-Ramones set in the Mad one. Adding I Wanna Be Sedated.

Thu. 11/5/09 8:09am From: Chuck

This set is like listening to the Primitive Show!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:11am From: Meghan

Where is that PG? He showed up the one day you didn't!

Yeah, why does the Ramones have so many "mad" songs?

Thu. 11/5/09 8:12am From: Chuck

You've got me... I'll ask him tomorrow...

Thu. 11/5/09 8:13am From: Bad Ronald

Prolly has something to do with growing up in Queens!!!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:14am From: jeff p

eating refried beans

Thu. 11/5/09 8:14am From: Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn

I've seen the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness.

Thu. 11/5/09 8:15am From: Andy in Berlin

Exactly! The Fugs singing Howl!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:15am From: Chuck

I'll go along with that, Mad Ronald! Everyone that I've met from that background aren't playing with a full deck!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:17am From: Meghan

ummm we all got a little crazy in us...

Thu. 11/5/09 8:19am From: Chuck

Of course! Why else would we be involved so deeply involved in music?

Thu. 11/5/09 8:20am From: Mad Ronald

Gulping down Thorazines!!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:20am From: Parq

<smiling>

Thu. 11/5/09 8:21am From: Meghan

not the one you were originally looking for, but i happen to have this in my personal collection... great suggestion!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:24am From: Chuck

Alway hilarious when they break out the Helium tank! HA!!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:25am From: Andy in Berlin

How about rock versions of tv and movie themes? Obvious choices would be Twilight Zone by the Ventures or the Dragnet by Art of Noise but my favorite is the Psycho Theme by The fibonaccis and Goldfinger by Magazine.

Thu. 11/5/09 8:25am From: jeff p

napoleon xiv! nice!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:27am From: Chuck

The Dickies doing "Gigantor" would fit in there as well, Andy...

Thu. 11/5/09 8:28am From: Andy in Berlin

Totally!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:31am From: jeff p

OMG I LOVE THIS SONG AND TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT IT!!!!!. I must be slipping. "Dearly beloved...."

Thu. 11/5/09 8:33am From: Meghan

I think that I make up for all that "why didn't you play __________" with this song... and if you aren't singing along and dancing... for shame

Thu. 11/5/09 8:35am From: jeff p

my boss just looked at me singing and dancing and said, "What the fuck are you doing?"

Thu. 11/5/09 8:36am From: Meghan

hehe... nice!

Thu. 11/5/09 8:36am From: Dave B - NYC

@Chuck - back in the early days of the Crumbsuckers, we used to do the "Inspector Gadget" theme. I have it somewhere, if a TV theme show comes up..

Thu. 11/5/09 8:38am From: Chuck

I think I've got a comp of cartoon themes done by rock bands in my collection... I forget what I've got since there's so much.... I'll look...

Thu. 11/5/09 8:38am From: Dave B - NYC

Actually, that shoulda been @Meghan.

Crazy....

Thu. 11/5/09 8:40am From: Meghan

hehe... i figured it out... I have a comp of Saturday morning cartoons as well....

Thu. 11/5/09 8:41am From: Andy in Berlin
