Mon. 10/5/09 5:14pm From: Pete

Sorry to ask a dumb question, but where'd the name "Acousmatic" come from?

Mon. 10/5/09 5:16pm From: Karinne

It came from the dictionary (for us). Means something heard without a visible source. Apparently Pythagorus is the earliest acknowledged acousmatic artist: he liked to give his lectures from behind a screen. Never mind all the stuff about chickens.

Mon. 10/5/09 5:20pm From: Pythagoras

It worked in theorem, anyhow.

Mon. 10/5/09 5:21pm From: Carmichael

Eeee-Yaysus ..... Shecky Pythagoras.

Mon. 10/5/09 5:22pm From: Pete

Thanks - was hoping you'd say that. I was a philosophy major, and akousma (akousmata) was a word and concept that I always liked, for some reason

Mon. 10/5/09 5:25pm From: Pythy G
