Playlist for This Is The Modern World with Trouble - October 1, 2009

Tuesdays 9am - Noon on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Man, David Byrne has the most recognizable voice. 1/10th of a second - it's him.

Bilk L: I was just thinking the same thing...

Thu. 10/1/09 10:52am annie:

Thu. 10/1/09 11:34am Cecile:

Have you seen the Science of Sleep?
I haven't seen it, but I have heard that it takes a weird narrative tack, very dreamlike
or oneiric - I loved learning that word! I want to see it.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:35am Chris:

Still amazed at how wonderful Faust were at Sonic Circuits on Sunday. Wish I could see the FMU fest show.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:36am Cecile:

*plugs ears* not listening...
not making that or the rekkid fair this year...

Thu. 10/1/09 11:37am Laurie:

I just had a serious Beavis and Butthead moment when you read the title of Barbara Morgenstern's album.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:38am dc pat:

naw haven't seen it. Y'know, I don't give a crap what dreams are suppose to mean, etc. I just like having 'em and using them as source material..

Thu. 10/1/09 11:42am Sometimes Jasmine:

Thanks for the Hope, Trouble... I'm seeing them play in London next month :-)

Thu. 10/1/09 11:42am Cecile:

mine usually mean what they mean. I'm just a weird person!
And they are a great source material.
I've actually used some shapes and colors I've seen in work flyers. LOL!

Thu. 10/1/09 11:43am GP:

Talk about dreamlike..regardez... Ms. Hope Sandoval.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:46am trouble:

cecile, science of sleep is gorgeous and weird. i say see it!

Thu. 10/1/09 11:48am GP:

Trouble, Here my one bizarre question I'm allowed for the day. How do you pronounce Irwins last name. Does it sound like "Choose Sid"?

Thu. 10/1/09 11:49am Cecile:

I will do so!

Thu. 10/1/09 11:50am BSI:

Chris: agreed on all counts. I should have a video clip from the Faust set available via Sonic Circuits late tonight. Just gotta pick an excerpt...

it was a mahvelous show. Enjoy, all you folks up there.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:52am annie:

kicked the woodstove up this am!! nice to have this heat on a cool rainy day! i have a bushel of apples, have just decided to make: APPLE BUTTER!! woohoo!

Thu. 10/1/09 11:54am 55rpm:

michel gondry continues the preposterous of 'science of sleep' into his 'be kind, rewind'. It's admirable and fortunate that the moneypeople still back his crazy visions.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:54am J-Mar:

Joe Bataan AND Leroy Van Dyke all in the same hour? You're making my day!

Thu. 10/1/09 11:54am Carmichael:

I'm gonna go drive a big rig.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:54am GP:

Annie,
Save some for us. Still have the AC on down here...we need some coolness sent down.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:55am Devin:

That paints an awesome picture annie.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:55am Cecile:

I have "be kind" on TiVo. I need to watch it.

Thu. 10/1/09 11:56am annie:

it takes forever, but it will be worth it!! shall keep you all posted, first: let the peeling begin! imagine all the happy rabbits ans birds..

Thu. 10/1/09 11:57am trouble:

and i LOVE be kind rewind!

Thu. 10/1/09 11:57am annie:

see, to me, this is another voice i cannot get too much of..

Thu. 10/1/09 11:58am JCityJensen:

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK This yoko track is awesome - it's like listening to a techno remix of your background birds

Thu. 10/1/09 11:59am Jennique:
