West Virginia native here!

Thu. 9/3/09 12:49pm From: north guinea hills

i always when old xtian folk songs from the virginia pronounce chimney as "chimbley" since it was considered immodest to pronounce any part of the body that could be remotely tied to the act of procreation, even if it sounds like a said part of the body in another word.

Thu. 9/3/09 12:52pm From: Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn

What part of the body sounds like "chimney?" Or should I be afraid to ask?

Thu. 9/3/09 12:54pm From: north guinea hills

ddggd: chim"knee"

Thu. 9/3/09 12:55pm From: dc pat

kim chee

Thu. 9/3/09 12:55pm From: north guinea hills

apparently, anything associated w/ the legs is dirty to appalachian protestants.

Thu. 9/3/09 12:59pm From: Dum Dum Guy at the Gates of Dawn

Well, I've got to hand it to 'em if they have learned how to use their knees to procreate. I am surprised there is not a sub-genre of porn dedicated to this strange and unique practice.

"considered immodest to pronounce any part of the body that could be remotely tied to the act of procreation"

Gee, how can one talk about the body at all then? Or maybe I've been doing it wrong all these years.

Thu. 9/3/09 1:05pm From: north guinea hills

If you spend time w/ some religious mountain folk old-timers, it's easier to understand, but no less ridiculous. (I had some great aunt & uncles that fit the bill).

left WV when I was 3. I only went back to visit my elderly relatives. Everyone from my parent's generation left after college.

lives in brooklyn now.

Thu. 9/3/09 1:08pm From: uncle ben

Thu. 9/3/09 2:59pm From: Parq

Was it something I said?

Hey Jason, good show. A lot of the material had a quirky folk quality that somehow reminded me of Catholic guitar masses. As Tony Coulter fans know, that's not a bad thing.

Thu. 9/3/09 3:00pm From: north guinea hills

thanks jason. nice show.

as someone who lived 20 years in fla, and has been to toronto, fla is still shiittier (except the beaches and wildlife)

Thu. 9/3/09 3:01pm From: Cecile
