Listener comments!

  Tue. 7/14/09 12:05pm Laurie:

I can't wait for Robyn Hitchcock. He wrote one of my top five favorite songs ever, "Egyptian Cream."
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:06pm G:

It's Bastille Day Space Shock 2009!

Original Bastille Day Space Shock, 2000:

I have the British 45 of Outa Space, I'd forgotten about that...
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:08pm Carmichael:

Man, does this bring back some memories. Some of them good .....
Tue. 7/14/09 12:11pm randy in NC:

Space is the place! I saw Apollo 11 take off.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:13pm David Bowie:

Ground control to Major Joe!!!!!!!!
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:13pm efd:

Awesome opening set, Joe!

My family was visiting my uncle in CA when the moon landing happened; I still have a vague recollection of watching it on TV.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:15pm Carmichael:

In keeping with this theme Joe, could you play something from Stampfel/Weber's "Beer Cans on the Moon"?
Tue. 7/14/09 12:17pm randy in NC:

We were visiting my grandmother in Miami and my Dad drove us up to watch it.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:23pm Parq:

Oh yeah, today's Hitchcock! Totally stoked.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:25pm Marshall Stacks:

Maybe not the right vibe, but definitely the right topic: Angst's Neil Armstrong.

Love the Gil S-H, by the way.
Tue. 7/14/09 12:25pm Gilbert and the Beav':

What the Hell, Whitey's on the moon?
Tue. 7/14/09 12:27pm doug in dc:

Whatcha doin' on the moon?
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:27pm rubble:

I saw the moon just clear as day up in the sky at 9:30 AM yesterday! Quite a remarkable sight.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:30pm Carmichael:

Just don't play the friggin' Police .....
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:30pm Moon:

Don't mess wit me or imma stick it right in yer face. It's big, it's round, and it's white.
Tue. 7/14/09 12:33pm doug in dc:

The moon has a dark side.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:34pm Carmichael:

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:35pm Edzo:

Howzabout "Before the Moon Falls" by The Fall?
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:35pm Rob W:

July 16 is indeed the correct Apollo 11 launch date, Joe. I share the space-age nostalgia, loved it all as a kid and although it's not really PC I hope we make it to Mars before you and I are pushing up daisies!
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:35pm Bad Ronald:

Wreckless Eric "Walking on the Surface of the Moon"?
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:35pm gumby:

Scruffy the Cat - Moons of Jupiter
Tue. 7/14/09 12:36pm doug in dc:

  Tue. 7/14/09 12:39pm Laurie:

"Blue Moon," by Big Star!!
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:39pm Gerry O'Driscoll:

There is no dark side of the moon, really. As a matter of fact it's all dark.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:40pm Edzo:

Maybe Robyn Hitchcock can play "The Moon Inside"
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:42pm Parq:

Second the motion for Scruffy's "Jupiter". Love that little chuckle in the first sung line.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:47pm Buzz Lightyear:

Jupiter? I don't think we have landed there yet.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:51pm HAL:

I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:53pm Laurie:

"Gone to the Moon," Fastbacks PLEASE. Thanks.
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:54pm anthony:

Bark at the Moon-Ozzy
Moonage Day Dream-Bowie
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:55pm Maria:

hey love this moon stuff. I did a moon show just about a month ago. Good subject matter, great songs!
  Tue. 7/14/09 12:59pm ?:

solo Ozzy = shit
Tue. 7/14/09 1:00pm ken in denver:

Astronauts! Colorado's own! Woo-hoo!
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:00pm Ozzy:

oi, mnbmlmm rnnmsgmn msgsnmn

hey, where are my fuckin subtitles?
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:01pm dc pat:

ok, that one's news to me--didn't know the Astronauts wrote this tune. Play the Monkees' version too!
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:02pm paul:

This entire show is sheer lunacy so far. I remember the moon landing - a little. My parents sent me to bed they were listening to it on the radio, summer beachhouse no tv. I had to do that sneak-halfway down-the-stairs thing to hear it.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:03pm Rubble:

Paul, you made my day with your comment. :)
Lunatic!
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:07pm Parq:

Paul's comment sparks my own memory. I was in camp 40 years ago this week. A small back-and-white TV was set up in the rec hall, and for two hours, we sat there looking at the landing module and listening to chatter we didn't understand. We were sent to bed long before the Small Step took place.

Incidently, I remember hearing news reports later the same summer, about this giant rock concert going on somewhere in upstate NY, closing the Thruway and attracting mud-soaked hordes. Oh, I spent that entire summer on the sidelines of history!
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:09pm History:

I'm kinda overrated, to be honest. I'm still around after all, and nobody's overawed.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:11pm dc pat:

man I was too little to remember any of that stuff. I do remember a Beatles live performance on tv in the late 60's at some point...I wonder if I imagined that.

I love PRatRs!!!
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:12pm ?:

DC Pat, they were televised performing 'all you need is love; in the late 60's ...
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:13pm Carmichael:

Now I distinctly remember the Raiders on "Where the Action Is" every week. There was a VW bug that would pop a wheelie during the intro. Nothing in my youth was cooler.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:13pm AnAnonymousParty:

Well, History, if you'd quit repeating yourself, perhaps we'd pay more attention.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:15pm Carmichael:

Mr Sun, Mr. Moon was some cool hippie pop shit. And Joe, you're playing a lot of Goffin-King Brill Building songs. Super cool.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:17pm dc pat:

I thought what I saw was post-psychedelic but maybe it was All Ya Need Is Love and I'm remembering it wrong...
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:19pm Raiders:

Huh, I just never get no respect! {adjusting tie knot nerviously}
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:19pm Parq:

Pat - another possibility: there was a widely played, and occasionally parodied, video of the Bs doing "Hey Jude", with McC on piano and John playing a sizable hollow-body.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:20pm JCityJensen:

Crap missed whitey on the moon!
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:25pm dcite:

saw gil at blues alley in dc a few weeks back. he still can bring the goods. good band. good monologues.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:26pm dc pat:

Parq: That sounds more like it--long hair and big guitar. I remember my older brother making a big deal about it.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:28pm Laurie:

HAPPY BASTILLE DAY.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:30pm Carmichael:

Pat, could that have been the rooftop sessions at Abbey Road?
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:33pm Laurie:

Oh god, I love this song.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:34pm dc pat:

Carm: I thought not, but I dunno now. I'm a huge fan and thought I'd ruled out anything I ever saw again. I'll have to ask my brother...
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:38pm dc pat:

ok, never mind, my brother has no idea what I'm talking about. shit. I've been wondering about this for 40 years goddammit!! It was just a bum memory...
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:38pm David Shortell:

Carmichael:
Nope. That Saville Row shindig was filmed, not televised, and released cinematically the following year.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:39pm Dan:

Tell Bill Reiflin
Dan Bauman (violent femmes)
and Dave Collins (thrill Kill Kult)
Say Hi from Chicago
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:40pm Joe B:

sorry Dan ... this was pre-taped! He was here a few weeks ago.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:40pm Carmichael:

Well, the only TV I can recall is the Ed Sullivan show (the later, color one) and some things on Dick Cavett or David Frost. Or maybe Mike Douglas.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:42pm Parq:

Pat, at the risk of overkill (and of making it obvious that I'm bored at my desk right now), here's a still from the Hey Jude vid. Familiar?

http://tinyurl.com/heydjvid
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:43pm dc pat:

my bro says it was just John Lennon doing Come Together solo. That must be it.. sorry for overkill, done.
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:45pm ?:

I know all you need is love was televised live- perhaps not here!
Robyn sounds awesome!
  Tue. 7/14/09 1:52pm Parq:

Aha, Pat! I know that one. That was the so-called "One to One Concert" to benefit mental care reform after the Willowbrook scandal. The concert was in summer 1972 and a TV version aired that fall. I was there for both of two shows. The bill also included Sha Na Na, Roberta Flack and Stevie Wonder. Here's a shot of Lennon and the Missus.

  Tue. 7/14/09 1:57pm Laurie:

Isn't Dante's a strip club?
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:04pm Razzle:

Great set!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:05pm dc pat:

I'll bet that's at, thanks Parq!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:05pm Moon:

I am totally *not* cheesy.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:06pm Laurie:

Thanks for playing my request, Joe!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:07pm The Tides:

I find you very attractive, actually.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:10pm Carmichael:

Hey! Good choice, Joe!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:11pm Parq:

I really like that garage version of Rapposo's "Moon" but I'm always sorry they left out the bridge, with its thoughtful comment, "There's so many strange places that I'd like to be - but none of them permanently."
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:11pm Bad Ronald:

Can we get the Bonzo's "Urban Spaceman"?
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:12pm Jandek:

This guy is some singer :-)
Tue. 7/14/09 2:13pm Judge Sonia Sotomayor:

I'd rather be standing on the moon than listen to these pompous blowhards speechify at me under the guise of questioning.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:13pm Randy Jackson:

Pitchy for me, dawg. Keepin it real. Weird getup.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:13pm Shane McGowan:

I envy his raw singing skills.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:17pm Joe B:

Tickets gone, thanks to all who called.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:19pm Parq:

Shane, not to mention his relatively sound dental health.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:21pm em:

the randy jackson comment completely made my day, thanks.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:22pm efd:

ooh, this fine extra moon set just reminded me of a good moon-related song I can start my show with. But I shall not reveal it, because I don't want to be gazumped.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:23pm Joe B:

Should we expect Evan "Buzz" Davies tonight?
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:23pm G:

yvw
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:25pm maria:

eeeee elllll ooooohhhhh!!!!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:25pm Shane McGowan:

Who needs teefs?
Tue. 7/14/09 2:27pm ken in denver:

I read that Shane got a new set of choppers.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:28pm efd:

I'll be Evan "Michael Collins" Davies - he never gets any props.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:29pm Sybil:

efd, you'll always be "buzz" to us!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:30pm Parq:

Ken in Den, sad to have to say this, but can he also get a new set of brain cells?
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:33pm Carmichael:

All I can say to this song is "Uhhh!"
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:51pm ?:

Excellent show today Joe!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:52pm Carmichael:

Thanks for the show, Joe!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:53pm Joe B:

Thanks everybody for listening/commenting. Also thanks for the moon suggestions, couldn't find a lot of them but perhaps next week!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:54pm Leon Spinks:

Teeth and brain cells = overrated.
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:55pm Marshall Stacks:

Thanks for the GREAT show, Joe!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:55pm efd:

the actual landing was July 20, so you'll still be within the statute of limitations next week!
  Tue. 7/14/09 2:56pm Bad Ronald:

Great show as always Joe, thanks!
