Fri. 5/1/09 10:29am From: annie

Fri. 5/1/09 10:32am From: Devin

Cecile - I'll bet that was somethin' else!!

Fri. 5/1/09 10:32am From: dragonfryshards

Doug,me too...when i'm home, i have trouble falling asleep w.out music....Cecile -did you see K Sunny Ade at "the pier" in NY?

Fri. 5/1/09 10:32am From: Cecile

I did not know these two played together!
Where can I find that record!
I love pre-sap Gato

Fri. 5/1/09 10:33am From: Cecile

No, at the State Theatre in Ann Arbor.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:34am From: LOL Gato

Thanks for the spin!

Fri. 5/1/09 10:34am From: Cecile

Devin, it was awesome.
Everyone was dancing, and all the Nigerians would go onstage and put dollar bills on Sunny's forehead. I guess that's a sign there that he's hitting it out of the park.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:36am From: Devin

C - What ?! That's wild...

Fri. 5/1/09 10:37am From: dragonflyshards

-just curious..i dont recall the exact year i saw them(him)...they did that dollar bill thing at Ebinezer Obey show, too.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:39am From: Cecile

Yep. The more bills they put on your forehead, the better your'e doing. He probably walked out of there with a suitcase of cash. Well earned.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:40am From: Cecile

dragon, I would love to see Obey. He is damn good.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:40am From: Carmichael

Hi Doug and boarders. Got here just in time for the African set.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:40am From: Cecile

I need this Dollar Brand/Johnny Dyani too

Fri. 5/1/09 10:41am From: William Twotits

Should I go with a black ipod or a silver ipod, crew?

Fri. 5/1/09 10:42am From: Carmichael

IMHO, black hides the greasy fingerprints better.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:43am From: dragonflyshards

'twas good.-small room on rutgers campus...but i still like Ade' better(no offense to Mr O)

Fri. 5/1/09 10:43am From: William Twotits

Then black it will be. That is where I was leaning, but the classic silver has its charm too and will remind me of the one I am replacing.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:44am From: wigg

go with the truffle shuffle

Fri. 5/1/09 10:44am From: Devin

My first intro to african music was from professor / priest Gideon Alorwoyie at UNT here in Denton...regarded as one of Ghana's foremost virtuosos of traditional music and dance. He's also high priest of the Yewe cult.... Interesting cat.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:46am From: Carmichael

I went to a weekend World Music Festival and saw The Mighty Sparrow. Was completely blown away and confused. I needed all the African genres after that, and pronto.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:49am From: Cecile

Can you get pink, Wiliam? I like pink.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:49am From: dragonflyshards

whew!Mighty Sparrow's mighty.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:50am From: Cecile

Devin, to me Ade has the better tunes, but Obey has the killer grooves. hard to choose.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:50am From: dragonflyshards

carnation pink,w a shiny white fringe.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:50am From: William Twotits

Sadly not. I am getting the ipod classic for more space. With the amount of albums in my collection it would be a waste to get anything less.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:51am From: William Twotits

But I might be tempted to put it in a hot pink protective case, if available.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:52am From: Cecile

Ah, true.

There are many cute hot pink cases out there. This time I did a change up from the pink for mine, and got black rubber with a red tiger stripe pattern.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:53am From: Devin

C - Indeed...

Fri. 5/1/09 10:55am From: Gjorgji

the last set is a bliss. amazing

Fri. 5/1/09 10:55am From: Pearly Sweets

That was quite a Steven Bernstein moment there.

Fri. 5/1/09 10:55am From: dragonfryshards

luckily,we dont have to choose favorites...but i pull out the"Ju Ju Music"album when i want to take a little trip

Fri. 5/1/09 10:55am From: north guinea hills

i turn on the playlist, and see all of the abdullah ibrahim tunes listed, and i was afraid he had died. thank god!

Fri. 5/1/09 10:58am From: Drummer Some

NGH,
I just knew someone would reach that conclusion. Sorry for the jolt. Ibrahim will be 75 yrs young in October!

Fri. 5/1/09 11:00am From: Carmichael

I just noticed that Baaba Maal will be playing nearby in the fall. A must see, so I'm going.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:03am From: dragonfshards

i like that you,Doug, play sets occupied by much of one artist,sometimes...some radio people say that's bad,somehow...i think you're captain of a groove, and thats how i like it....let me sink in.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:05am From: Travis

Doug ~ Did you know that Ibrahim's daughter is hip-hop artist, Jean Grae, who has been featured on a couple of Herbaliser (UK) albums

Fri. 5/1/09 11:07am From: Cecile

I did not know that!
Wow, there are so many jazz artists who have rapper sons/daughters

Fri. 5/1/09 11:11am From: Carmichael

Strangely, I would enjoy some yodeling right about now.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:14am From: north guinea hills

the only jean grae i have is on a mr. liff album. i have't paid attention to the herbaliser in ages.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:15am From: dragonshyflards

Not strange!..i Love good yodels...or,maybe Don Walser's version of"long black veil"(live on FMU)

Fri. 5/1/09 11:15am From: Drummer Some

Trumpeter Olu Dara's son is Nas.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:19am From: Satisfied Customer.

Absolutely.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:21am From: Carmichael

The guy from Sons of the Pioneers is who I was thinking about. Is that Ranger Doug, or do I have my yodelers mixed up?

Fri. 5/1/09 11:23am From: chris

Hey Doug, great show. You listened to John Funke yet?

Fri. 5/1/09 11:23am From: Roy Pea

Thanks for this cheerful country set, Doug! Like you, I am looking for work, and this is really boosting my spirits. After a tough week, I needed it.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:28am From: fishmonkeystew

I love happy death songs!

Fri. 5/1/09 11:30am From: Travis

Yo Charmichael -- Actually Ranger Doug is a contemporary yodeler. He heads up Riders in the Sky -- kind of a cowboy novelty group.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:31am From: Sister Hairy Hymen

I must say that your Blog is one of best kept secrets of the INTERNET

Fri. 5/1/09 11:32am From: Sister Hairy

And your show is damn good too.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:37am From: chris

You takin' requests Doug? how bout some Snoooks?

Fri. 5/1/09 11:37am From: Carmichael

Thanks, Travis. I knew I had a brain bubble there.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:40am From: El Thatchmo...

Me too....

Fri. 5/1/09 11:48am From: Cecile

I think Solomon should be in the Country Hall of Fame. I'm serious.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:49am From: Drummer Some

No time for requests, Chris, though I love Snooks, as you surely know...

Fri. 5/1/09 11:51am From: chris

I do know that Doug. It was a weird synchronicity for me because I heard you play him right after I heard about him for the first time a few months ago and then he died like the next week! The last time you played one of his tracks the song blew me away.

Fri. 5/1/09 11:54am From: Carmichael

This is so Temptations-ey ....

Fri. 5/1/09 11:56am From: ALF of Hip Hop Slam

Doug,
Are most of the stuff you play on your show only on CD?

Fri. 5/1/09 11:57am From: PMD

hmmm... x-rated soul/funk

Fri. 5/1/09 11:58am From: Carmichael
