Listener comments!

  11:07pm
Mark:

Aaaaaaaw YEEEEAHhhh!
  11:09pm
sveden:

Nice Jacko song to start out the set and get rid of the funk of The Mike Show.
  11:10pm
em2:

potato hooole!
  11:10pm
john:

I'm goin' back to Indiana.
  11:12pm
cheri:

hey there evan-any idea if you're on the summer schedule??? i hope you are=)=)
  11:15pm
efd:

Cheri, I hope I am too! But none of us will know until sometime around the middle of June, so you'll need to find a new question.

Hi John, em2, sveden and Mark!
  11:19pm
Mark:

Hi efd! It's good to hear from you!
  11:22pm
Pearly Sweets:

They keep their super secret summer schedule hidden from all eyes and announce it at 5 in the morning, like the Oscars.
  11:28pm
Amanda:

Is there a paranoia or disease theme to this set, per the show title? I can't identify it! Ohhhh no!
  11:29pm
cheri & toni d.:

g'nit efd & everybody i'm skippin out alil early..it's been a long day,,i'm sorry=( see ya next week efd,,
  11:30pm
E.L.:

When I hear the Thermals I get the "feelin' just fine" flu.
  11:32pm
Amanda:

Ah, you mean the "so happy I'm lying supine" flu!

Hand sanitizer is supposed to be bad for you, isn't it?
  11:36pm
dustin:

that's great to hear aceyalone's new stuff. The Book of Human Language is a great album but completely different than this new release.
  11:38pm
E.L.:

Hand sanitizer is fine if you drink it in moderation.
  11:40pm
Paolo:

Hey Evan, where can I get that "Heavy Metal" Label compilation? Is it available for purchase anywhere online, or do I have to pester my local record stores? If you can't post a link here, you're more than welcome to e-mail it to me
  11:44pm
cheri:

ohhhh evan,,,i know that you already have my e-mail address--i want you to e-mail me if have the time tonite thnx & goodnite!!!!!=)=)
  11:49pm
Amanda:

Hey, late to add this, but I saw Muck and the Mires just recently! They were what's commonly known as "a ton of fun" live. Of course, I was trying to drink as much hand sanitizer as listener Joe and his friend at the time, so my memory could be skewed.
  11:49pm
efd:

Paolo, there's no contact info or (legit) address on that record - I think you might just have to search around online to see if it's listed anywhere.

E.L.. nice to see you listening in realtime! Dustin, glad you dug the Aceyalone cut. Amanda, yes, I think I've heard that before as well. Hi Pearly, and goodnight Cheri/Toni!
  11:49pm
stingy d:

hey man
  11:50pm
will:

Eeek! Someone else's cover of Lonelyhearts? It was the only good song by the Atlantics but then someone thought they could do it better (apparently). Evan, yer my favorite show for always!
  11:51pm
Jessica:

Gary Private sounds like Paul Staney. He's creeping me out a little aktuly. I think it's the way he says "Hawts".
  12:07am
stingy d:

rework, this is what i'm looking for. nice!
  12:09am
efd:

cool, Stingy! How's your knee? (it was your knee that was banged up, right?)

Hi Jessica - I know what you mean about Gary Private, which is partly why I was thinking it was weird that he was on Select - but maybe that's selective memory on my part.

Hi Will, glad you appreciated(?) that cover!
  12:11am
stingy d:

wrist. it's swell. no pun intended. stop playing freez man. i beg you.
  12:12am
efd:

it's good for you, it's building character!
  12:14am
greg siny:

Evan Some Questions did you work at bcn in Boston somewhere around 1980? I have some cassettes i made of bcn around that time and the set list s are just like yours..
I even have that song of a local Boston band that had the lyrics That went "talk talk talk talk about it?
Do you Know that song?

about 15/20 minutes ago, what was the song that sounded like a Bad Company 70's type song? Thanks
......
  12:14am
stingy d:

you not liking that song so much, makes me happier actually.
  12:16am
stingy d:

learning that you got it in northampton makes me happier too. i like that place, somehow i'm not surprised they had a freez record for a dollar.
  12:16am
john:

Got your dollar's worth now! Or maybe you can make it the new bed music?
  12:31am
efd:

John, even I couldn't take that being my bed music!

Greg - was never at 'BCN, although a good friend of mine from high school was MD there for a few years in the late 70s - I think he was in NYC by 1980 (as was I), but he was a big influence on my musical taste, so not surprising that there are similarities there.

Pretty sure that 70s-sounding song you're asking about was Gary Private...? Maybe? You can go back and check the archive tomorrow.
  12:41am
stingy d:

i'm drinking my first yoo-hoo of this century!
  12:43am
E.L.:

I need to get the Laureates album— having enjoyed their free EP for soooooooo long.
  12:47am
Ron:

Great show, Evan. Totally awesome! I'm in New Jersey for the day tomorrow - do you have any suggestions for a day trip I could take with my girlfriend? Thanks in advance!
  12:49am
frank beard:

hey evan, whats the magazine called?
  12:50am
mustache hartley:

thx
  12:52am
Joe:

Yes. Perfect.

Freakin' perfect.
  12:54am
Joe:

I mean, the Freez was perfect too, but I was driving then.

This is perfect for -now-.

And probably later.
  12:56am
Amanda:

Dammit, I was just about to go to bed!
  12:57am
Joe:

So you're just one of those people who likes to top themselves all the time, eh?

I tip my hat back to you, sir.
  12:59am
stingy d:

so far i'm all about this howlies track, the rework track, cybotron, and the fact that you made the funny joke of playing an aceyalone track.
  12:59am
efd:

I'm just trying to make Amanda stay up past her bedtime.
  1:01am
Amanda:

Think this makes up for the Rangers' loss.
  1:01am
Joe:

Its actually not that hard.
  1:03am
Danne D:

Evening, O King of Funk!
  1:07am
E.L.:

Everybody! Ah ha ha! HEEEY! OH GOOBAH GOOBAH GOOBAH!
  1:07am
E.L.:

Too late.
  1:09am
stingy d:

my roommate slapped a sole cd out of sole's hand one time. which is hilarious because that guy is a certified douche (not my roommate).
  1:14am
Joe:

Aw man Stingy don't ruin Sole for me like that.

I just hope OC sees a little bit of green from that release.
  1:15am
efd:

douche or not, I like this remix CD!

E.L., that comment was hilarious.
  1:16am
E.L.:

Yeah, Lost Controls! You are my caffeine!

Thanks, efd. Everyone was doing it. I just stated the obvious.
  1:19am
Amanda:

E.L., we were all thinking it! Reeling with the shock of its hilarity!
  1:19am
Joe:

He's right!
  1:19am
Joe:

Her too!
  1:21am
stingy d:

sorry joe. but at least time's up is one of the most sampled and cut up records in hip hop history... so.... i hope everyone gives o.c. a piece of the pie.

and listen davies.... i'm just much too much when it comes to rap, nobody ever makes me happy. so just gloss over any worthless diatribe's i got when it comes to that. i'm impossible. my apologies! great show as always, i'm a big fan!
  1:24am
efd:

hi Danne! almost missed you in all the excitement.

Stingy, no worries - I wasn't taking it personally.
  1:25am
Joe:

True Stingy.

"non-conceptual non-exceptional / your whole aura is plexiglass"

But props to your roomie for distributing smacks where/when earned.
  1:25am
E.L.:

I meant: I WAS just stating the obvious.

Oh late night WFMU comments, given the chance, how many of you would I destroy?

A: MOST
  1:26am
Amanda:

Stingy, you're such a class act. E.L., you are blowing my mind AGAIN. Let me take a minute to acknowledge how much love is in this room. May I? I hope it's all right to do so. (acknowledging)
  1:31am
Danne D:

No problem EFD, still a little zombiefied myself trying to recover from the Devils debacle tonight! :(
  1:31am
stingy d:

ewwwww love is yicky.
  1:36am
Amanda:

I used to think so too. Even Danne D was a curmudgeon before the EFD show turned him around.
  1:37am
Aharon (aka Babybunting):

EFD, et al.: need you ask where I would be at 1:34 on a Wednesday morning? Now, the smart thing to do would be to lay low on the query, but I didn't end up going to the Jeremy Jay show last week. Was convinced--and, to be sure-, excited--to go see Quintron instead. But after that rousing song a bit back, I am dead set on the Thermals in about 2 weeks. Promises, promises...
  1:37am
Joe:

Love is all you need. Love and the Easybeats.

Also food.
  1:40am
efd:

thanks for the update, Aharon. I've seen the Thermals before, and can assure you that that will definitely be a rock show.
  1:40am
E.L.:

Aharon, I would punch a duck to see the Thermals at this point.
  1:41am
Joe:

Is that how you do it?

And here I am, buying tickets like some kind of sucker!
  1:41am
Danne D:

:) yep yep Amanda :)
how ya doing and hello to all you other fine folks (didn't mean to slight you guys)
  1:42am
efd:

Joe, buying tickets *is* the preferred method.
  1:42am
Joe:

Or winning them. Sometimes I win them.

-sometimes-
  1:45am
stingy d:

aaah, i'm just kiddin, i'm a total love hag
  1:45am
Aharon:

EFD--thank you for the reco/confo. BTW, I wish someone had told me about Bright Eyes before I saw him (in maybe 2000, but still).

EL: I will be contacting the DADL about this.

There are actually still tickets for the 5/9 and 5/11 Thermals shows available (W'burg show is prob better venue). I will leave nothing to chance. Or larceny. Or duck abuse.
  1:46am
Danne D:

Bryce is such a beast on the drums. Plus all those other legends. This sounds like quite the way to end the week!
  1:47am
E.L.:

YEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!

Thank You.
  1:47am
jesse:

when's that thing with the jam sessions?
  1:49am
Joe:

Friday from 3-6, on "Put the Needle on the Record with Billy Jam"

EFD, was the "Wendy" you mentioned the infamous volunteer/cheesehound?
  1:50am
stingy d:

oh my goodness!!! this is what i was looking for!!!!!! FRNKENSTEIN!!! oh man!!!!

hey efd, you know roy burns?
  1:50am
efd:

Thanks Joe - and yes, I'm pretty sure that is Wendy la femme du fromage.
  1:54am
E.L.:

That's a good cartoon. I still like the one with the two snails where one says, " I don't care if she is a tape dispenser— I love her."
  1:57am
efd:

I love any kind of snail joke.
  1:59am
Danne D:

night Funk-o-philes!
  1:59am
Amanda:

See, now I'm thinking of the guy who gets mad at his pet snail and kicks him out the door. One year later, there's a knock at the door and when the man opens, the snail is standing there: "Hey man, what the fuck was that about?"
  1:59am
Joe:

This song might inspire some odd dreams later.

Good show, though, thanks.
  2:00am
Danne D:

lol Amanda :)
  2:06am
efd:

See?! Amanda, I am LOLing at that even though of course I am already quite familiar with that joke.

Maybe next week will be Snail Joke week on the comments.
  10:30am
herb:

it's 10:27am & JEREMY JAY is singing, via the archvies. yep, that's the best song on rec, and i told j.j. that WNYU played it & i thought "GO-BETWEENS?". he smiled, and said "yeah, i love their first 2 singles" and he helped me out with a "lee remick" lyric. v.g. show, at union hall. nice basic pop.
  11:45am
Amanda:

And *I* am still LOLing over much of this show, its snail jokes and other aspects (please note that it's now noon). Keeping me awake is going to be a challenge now, tho' last night it sure wasn't!
  2:41pm
ghoulianna:

i just saw superchunk live last weekend. they were great.
