I was not around for the Duck when originally on the air, so this is fun and educational. Some current comedic programs could learn a thing or several.

Back in the days when each radio show was performance art to be actively listened to instead of a homogenized "product" to have on in the background. FMU continues to be the carrier of this torch.

I went to a disco once in Colorado in the '70s. Lights in the floor, thumping walls, chest hair, medallions, the whole thing. Up on a kind of opera box toward the ceiling, some kid was playing a drum kit along with the thump. Wailing away by himself for hours. Someone said it was the owner's son, adding a groove to the already groovy music.

Somehow, I survived to this day. Now, I listen to Tuvan throat singing and Lipsynca. Life's a cruel mistress.
