Hello all. Irwin, have you heard the new Metric album? I think you would love it. You would love it like a purring cat.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:05pm
Cecile:
what a lovely tribute page to Lou D'Antonio. Never heard his show, but today's WFMU stands on his shoulders.

Sean Daily:
Fifth comment or thereabouts! Woo hoo!

Wed. 4/8/09 3:12pm
fishmonkeystew:
Every day as I listen to WFMU I send home emails labeled "music" with the names of artists, songs and albums to follow up. I've sent about 12 today.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:17pm
Cecile:
Oh, don't apologize Irwin. Pay tribute!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:18pm
G.:
Hear hear Cecile... | |

Wed. 4/8/09 3:21pm

It looks like I'm going to get very little work done this afternoon. I remember the Duck well, and am going to be glued to this show.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:22pm
fishmonkeystew:
It's people like Lou that make it easier to sift through the insanity that is this world.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:25pm
G.:
Were the names Vin Scelsa and Pseu Braun? Woohoo, first internet comment on a 1978 audio stream!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:32pm
Ike:
I was not around for the Duck when originally on the air, so this is fun and educational. Some current comedic programs could learn a thing or several. The fact that he moved to Vermont must mean he was a man of great taste. Or taste in states anyway.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:34pm
Lizardner Dave:
The Duck was before my time, so this is interesting.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:44pm
Cecile:
Gee, I'm nostalgic for great radio I never heard.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 3:50pm
Cecile:
you are correct, Irwin! I remember getting a Bob and Ray book in HS, and just loved it. The House of Toast!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:00pm
Ismael:
Bob & Ray were the shiznit! as you might know, Bob [Elliott] is the father of Chris Elliott.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:02pm
Cecile:
That I know! And he made great appearances on "Get a Life"
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:04pm
fishmonkeystew:
Is there a Duck archive? Did I already miss that info? Great show, Irwin. Thanks for sharing. I can feel my brain expanding as I listen.

dagwood:
great show Irwin. Coincidence that Bob Elliott was on a show called Radio Deluxe last night with John Pizarelli (sp). Bob was talking about his shows and spinning OLD Bing Crosby. A hoot.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:17pm
Cecile:
Dagwood, is there a link or archive to that?
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:23pm

And Chris Elliott's daughter is Abby Elliott now on SNL
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:31pm
Cecile:
Ah! The seed of the Handsome Boy Modeling School!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:33pm
Ike:
Sorry Irwin, I just looked, and there do not appear to be any archives at WNCS's web site.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:33pm
Ismael:
Charm School for Men must have influenced Chris Elliott's "Handsome Boy Modeling School" on "Get a Life," where his character enrolls to become a male model.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:36pm
dagwood:
cecile. I found a link. It is a good show on NPR. http://www.johnpizzarelli.com/go.php?id=6

I'm reading Chris Elliott's newest book...fun
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:37pm
Cecile:
Thanks, dagwood. Yes, Ismael. The sketch on Get a Life, and Handsome Boy inspired that funny hip hop group from the 90s
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:38pm
G.:
Yep, Ike -- and in fact, I checked last week during Fabio's show and, using LD's name, I could not pull any hits at all on the Vermont station's site. Did I miss anything?
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:38pm
randy in NC:
I remember listening to The Duck back in the '80's. Condolences to his family and many friends...
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:45pm
randy in NC:
Back in the days when each radio show was performance art to be actively listened to instead of a homogenized "product" to have on in the background. FMU continues to be the carrier of this torch.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:45pm
Ismael:
Cecile: I lent my copy of the HBMS hip-hop CD to my buddy, and his house was robbed, and they took only my HBMS record. good-taste thievery!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:46pm
Laura L:
I'm sorry to say I didn't know Lou, but I met that sniveling little Gordon kid a few times. Radio Freak!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:47pm
tombom:
this is brilliant. | |
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:51pm
G.:
He even left a mention of himself and his 6 year old scatting in the Green Mountains, in a year 2000 amazon.com review of the disc they sang to -- http://tinyurl.com/cxznh3
|
Wed. 4/8/09 4:51pm
Cecile:
that is amazing, Ismael!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:00pm
Joe Bacon:
Irwin, thanks for sharing your memories of Lou with us!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:05pm
Cecile:
Yes, Irwin, thank you very much.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:06pm
Laura L:
Here, here--thanks, Irwin--a wonderful tribute. Thanks for putting it together. Much enjoyed and appreciated.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:21pm
Cecile:
WOW! A remix of Annie song this used to be a big staple on my disco channel on Pandora. Great song.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:31pm
Pearly Sweets:
it was just the same four bands.... melting away my brain for three hours.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:32pm
Cecile:
Irwin, you're making my head hurt. Catch you next week.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:32pm
G.:
Nope, in 2025 Andy will still be listening to 70s AOR. Like most people his age.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:34pm
Pearly Sweets:
I kinda wish the other Andy playlists were real just to listen to those shows. Any of them sound like they could have been 100% better than his show last week.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:34pm
Parq:
Wouldn't everyone agree that "My Disco Channel on Pandora" would be a good book title? ("This is your disco channel. And this is your disco channel on Pandora.")
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:37pm
Joe Bacon:
Just any mention of disco makes me realize how old I am and I can remember when I stood in line at Studio 54 with my then girlfriend and my wardrobe had half a dozen neon colored leisure suits 30 years ago
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:39pm

wow Irwin, does your playing "The Country's In the Very Best of Hands" mean that you have changed your stripes?
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:43pm
G.:
jawohl, so geil ( = cool)
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:43pm
Carmichael:
I went to a disco once in Colorado in the '70s. Lights in the floor, thumping walls, chest hair, medallions, the whole thing. Up on a kind of opera box toward the ceiling, some kid was playing a drum kit along with the thump. Wailing away by himself for hours. Someone said it was the owner's son, adding a groove to the already groovy music. Somehow, I survived to this day. Now, I listen to Tuvan throat singing and Lipsynca. Life's a cruel mistress.

Parq:
"Today, I am two seperate gorillas!"
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:48pm
Carmichael:
Although Irwin has superior knowledge and taste, I'll pass on to the uninitiated that Mr. Apollo was Paul McCartney, operating under a contract-necessitated pseudonym.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:50pm
G.:
Klima = climate Anlage = foundation Klimaanlage = a building's A/C system
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:51pm
Laura L:
Yeah, Klimaanlage means air-conditioning system. A surprising subject matter!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:55pm
Carmichael:
Finishing with a bang, dude. Enjoy the happy hour.
|
Wed. 4/8/09 5:59pm
Laura L:
Irwin, now go and have one on your brain!
|
Wed. 4/8/09 6:02pm
Carmichael:
Go straight to Hell, Andy.

Wed. 4/8/09 9:27pm

Thanks so much for dedicating your show to my uncle Lou, Irwin. It means a lot to me and the rest of his family/friends. I didn't get to catch it live but am really enjoying it now :)
