Guy I used to work with was a multi-instrumentalist... said it was the best book on drumming he'd ever read.
Personally, I have trouble walking and talking at the same time without falling flat on my face... not exactly drummer material.

Yeah that's the book, like I said, I'm not a drummer, and I haven't read it, however the person who I know -did- read it apparently used it to supplement his beginner lessons. He was also a pretty particular guy in general, and the book is still in print, so I'd imagine it's as solid as they come.
Bonus: Amazon review says "It was innovative---cutting edge, and also appealed to a wide range of students ranging from relative beginners to experienced set players."

I got scared for a minute that I made that up in my head - but Wikipedia confirms that Rusty Day, the lead singer of Cactus, was actually machine gunned to death by the guitarist in his band after a coke deal gone bad. Not fun, but definitely a rockstar way to go out. Might make my top 5.
