  12:33pm
Scott:

Yes Hugo, that was THE Megan
  12:37pm
Cecile:

Scott, did they ever reissue the Rotary Connection with Black Gold on the Sun on it?
  12:40pm
Scott:

Sorry Cecile, I have no idea.
  12:42pm
Hugo:

In that case, all the best from me and the kid. Kid? He's outgrowing me! BTW, he's worn out his WFMU t-shirt, so he may need a new one ...
  12:44pm
dale:

we don't get enuf polka on fmu
  12:47pm
PMD:

Hi Scott. I could really use a beer.
  12:49pm
Cecile:

I could use a hearing of Cardiac Atlas from June of '44...
  12:51pm

ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
  1:01pm
Red:

God bless Brazilian Rock! Sugest you Tom Zé! ;)
  1:03pm
Hugo:

I did get to see Hawkwind when Lemmy was still in the band. They had a female dancer at the time who would actually dance in the nude in the midst of multi-coloured strobe lights. Psychedelic silver machine, maaan!!
  1:04pm
c:

This album (and guitar playing) has completely killed me. Is there anything else out there like it? From my limited knowledge of CV, it was a bit of a departure. Does Pedro Za or anyone else play stuff like this? It's like rock music that's matured. The lyrics are so cool too. What does "being a rat" mean in Portugese?
  1:10pm
Lovich:

We want more Hawkwind tribute...
  1:10pm
Cecile:

I saw Hawkwind in a less exciting era. The dancer mimed being a swimmer and jumping off a diving board. She wore a swimsuit and a swimming cap.

Guess they were getting old.
  1:11pm
J-Mar:

A musica tudo legal! Tem Antonio Carlos e Jocafi?
  1:12pm
Scott:

Ohhh Hugo, of course you mean the ever amazing Stacia!! She's still out there, I believe selling art & raising her kids in Germany. C, Caetano Veloso is a killer - while a lot of his mid-70s and 80s records were a little MPB for my taste, he's just the classest act - why he isn't president of the world, I'll never know. Check out -all- of the records he made between 1967 and 1973, esp (since you dig the guitar stuff) Araca Azul and the 1969 s/t one
  1:13pm
postmanpaul:

scott - these are sets amongst sets. wonderful, just woderful.
  1:14pm
C:

Awesome, thanks Scott. Great to know where to start. It was a bit daunting.
  1:14pm
postmanpaul:

nnnnnn.
  1:15pm
Cecile:

rrrrrrrrrrr cat stevens. I mute now.
  1:16pm
dale:

I love the upbeat jauntiness of 'I'm gonna get me a gun". makes revenge killing sound like a trip to an amusement park.
  1:16pm
Cecile:

money track!
  1:16pm
dc pat:

was he talking about Salman Rushdie?
  1:16pm
Leon Trotsky:

Ah, Scott, Anything Could Happen. Just what the doctor ordered.
  1:17pm
Listener Greg:

I really only want to get a girlfriend so I can start a mix CD off with this song. After that, who knows.
  1:17pm
Hugo:

Speaking of Hawkwind, I once sought out the Mountain Grill which was a regular hangout and had an album named after it (no direct reference to Grieg apparently) . It was up on Portobello Road, just before the overpass, for those who know the area. The food was unspectacular, run by a Greek couple, I believe. Long gone now, of course.
  1:19pm
Murray Van Creme:

Cat Stevens?? Sounds like a Zappa-esque twisting of a commercial jingle.
  1:20pm
Scott:

Hey Hugo, was it as unspectacular as the album? That fucker caused me no end of grief - like could I really bring myself to get rid of a Hawkwind album? I did it, it was actually pretty easy - and I got a whole blog post out of it!
http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2008/06/why-cant-i-get.html
  1:28pm
Hugo:

Yes, it was.
  1:29pm
nyc:

YES YES YES. 'Wicked Game' is the best pop song ever penned, and playing it right out of Prurient was ace!
  1:30pm
joe:

hah, that transition from prurient to chris issac was classic.
  1:31pm
annie:

i'm sorry to say this but i love this song....... even with talking over it.
  1:32pm
Scott:

Sorry?? Why sorry? This song is amazing, I love it
  1:33pm
annie:

so pop-ee. it must be the guitar work.. i do love it.
  1:35pm
megan:

LOL, thank you Scott. I was happy to get to see you and the family in person. And, I'm so flattered to be considered THE anything, especially by THE Hugo! Hope life in Norway is treating you well, my friend! :-)
  1:35pm
Hugo:

On long-gone, is there anything left of that place CBGS's used to be in? I couldn't find it last year (though I did manage to grab a beer and a t-shirt when it was still open back in 06).
  1:36pm
jwm:

hey wait! is that the paul slocum of DFW? And/or, Tree Wave, etc?
  1:39pm
christine:

it is! He's also my gallerist at And/or Gallery in Dallas. great guy!
  1:43pm
Hugo:

Yes, THE Megan! Snowy and wintery over here. All the best from me and the kid! He's growing and growing and needs a new WFMU t-shirt! The old one's worn out.
  1:45pm
jwm:

thanks anyway! if its the same slocum, you should check out his band tree wave. dot matrix printer used as a musical instrument = rad.
  1:45pm
jwm:

thanks christine
  1:50pm
megan:

awww! i hope he is still listening to his cassette tapes, too. he was so fascinated by them! and there will be a brand new t-shirt design for this year's marathon, of course, to fit his growing frame! yay! :-)
  1:55pm
dc pat:

yes, more soundtracks..
  2:04pm
Hugo:

To him, cassettes are THE THING! The fewer the copies, the better. Preferably made by very underground Japanese artists. Or very very underground American artists. Not more than 100 copies. And it has to be low-fi ...
  2:08pm
Benjamin:

I am listening in the office in England. I wouldn't normally be here but have got snowed in and am being put in in a local hotel by my employer, which I will go to later. Am enjoying the eclectic mix of music.
  2:10pm
dc pat:

wtf?? it's like 60 degrees here in DC!! WHY CAN'T WE HAVE SNOW?????
  2:23pm
stingy d:

ah shit, was just listening, didn't realize that was harry dean stanton. he's my favorite person that i share birthday's with. keep going scott!
  2:26pm
annie:

stingy, you truly have an auspicious connection, then, he rocks.. and i love it when he sings.
  2:30pm
giraffe-o:

Sweet - can't think of a better mashup than Crim & Paul Harvey. Well, can't think of one right this second.
  2:31pm
dc pat:

Scott, little issue: shouldn't it be King Crimson w/ Paul Harvey on the same line as this is, technically, one song??
  2:32pm
stingy d:

i got ingmar bergman too... but i have no opinion of that fella. also woody guthrie.
  2:36pm
dc pat:

I got my own dad.
  2:37pm
annie:

i share with his holiness the dalai lama and john paul jones and (george bush)
  2:41pm
Hugo:

I downloaded a full concert of Robyn Hitchcock doing Syd covers. Kinda obvious when you think about it - he's really the right one for that ...
  2:48pm
stingy d:

jesus christ man... why don't they just tell the kids that the fire engine is gonna make some type of sound and stick to it. that was agonizing.
  2:48pm
dc pat:

..well what happened?? How did they fix the freakin problem???
  2:54pm
dc pat:

ah...thank god! [listening with hands folded on lap...]
  2:55pm
Jimmy Safechuck:

These people were stupid. Why didn't they just buy a siren and get it over with? Jeez?
  2:56pm
just a guy:

I knew a cat would have something to do with it.

Holy shit someone should tell them that thats actually a man in a cat suit.
  2:56pm
Leon Trotsky:

George W. Bush hails from Oakdale, non?
  2:57pm
dc pat:

eh, what a let down...
  2:57pm
Ike:

That was the lamest attempt a meow EVER. Ha!
  2:59pm
Jimmy Safechuck:

Crunchy Frog has the meow DOWN, however.
  3:00pm
Boz Scaggs:

I have the dirty meowdown.
  12:37pm
Cal Carter jr:

Hi,
My Dad Cal Carter Sr. Wrote "I got jealous one time too often '" on this playlist. I was excited to see it and hear a slice of it here. He has passed away and it was nice to hear it.
We were from Canonsburg, Pa and this song was once offered to Bobby Vinton from Canonsburg. Also Perry Como and the 4 coins were from there. Canonsburg has the most recordings come out of a small town American town. I have a couple myself. Thank you, Cal jr.
