Listener comments!

  6:09pm Mac:

Showing support for the show. THANKS
  6:10pm Your DJ:

Thank you Mac!
  6:28pm Alex H:

Damn I didn't know there was another Guitars From Agadez LP out.

I thank you. My wallet does not.
  7:04pm postmanpaul:

rob, am a new listener and am hooked! nice selections - i normally catch bbc radio 3's 'late junction' introd by Fiona talkington and felicity kendall for these magical european/eastern sounds. glad to make your acquaintance!
  7:07pm Your DJ:

Thanks postmanpaul! The BBC has been an influence for me - especially Lucy Duran, Andy Kershaw and Charlie Gillett (who once guested on my show - I was a nervous wreck that night!).
  7:14pm postmanpaul:

rob, yeah they are awesome world heavyweights, anyone would be a little nervous in the same ring as those guys; lucy duran is awesome. a correction: verity sharp co-intros 'late junction' with fiona talkington, not felicity kendall, woops.
  7:20pm julian:

felicity kendall presenting Late Junction? now, that would be fascinating. The Good Life, indeed!
  7:22pm Stannerlee:

postmanpaul you're forgiven, my mind often drifts to Fellicity Kendall at this time of evening
  7:28pm slugluv1313:

LOVING the Chopteeth stuff, Rob!!!!!!!!
  7:30pm Your DJ:

Thanks slugluv! The band now playing is another pretty impressive domestic newcomer, Occidental Brothers Dance Band International - based in Chicago, featuring two ex-members of Ghanaian old-school highlife band Western Diamonds.
  7:35pm Mike from Morris Plains:

Yet another reason why I love WFMU! Great set!
  7:36pm Mac:

Toumani Diabate will be at McCarter Theater in Princeton NJ in April.
Just got tickets. Could you play some Kora stuff?
  7:41pm Your DJ:

Hi Mac - sure, I can play something. By the way, Toumani is also playing NYC intimate venue Le Poisson Rouge in NYC April 18-19. And he's doing a tour with Bela Fleck and other African musicians including the guitarist D'Gary which while skipping NYC will hit Ridgefield CT and Tarrytown NY in March. I have the info / links on my concert page http://www.wfmu.org/world.
  7:44pm slugluv1313:

omg! TOUMANI DIABATE!!!!!! missed him in November and at MetroTech . . . maybe this time!!!!
  7:49pm postmanpaul:

rob, have just been trawling the murky archives hoping to catch your show with Charlie Gillett... got lost and found myself listening to a wfmu incredible string band special [2004] and then on to youtube where i caught up with some fine tunes from trees first album. am now off the musical merry-go-round. trees were rather special.
  7:51pm Your DJ:

Well pmp, I do get into the old Britfolk from time to time especially when my sidekick Katie is on board (as she will be next week for a Valentine's Day Show) - but may not get there tonight - !
  7:54pm postmanpaul:

you're doing fine rob!
  7:58pm julian:

Hey postmanpaul - did you find the Charlie Gillett show? If not, it's here:

http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/12561

Well worth a listen. Rob clearly not nervous at all.
  8:04pm postmanpaul:

thanks for that julian, am lookin' fwd to catching it.
  8:46pm dividend:

Rob, do you have the new Golem CD? can we check it out?
  8:48pm Your DJ:

Sure thing dividen - I'll play it next.
  8:56pm dividen:
