Hi Hatch,
You've been missed!
How about a good riddens to Bush segment. Start with Conor Oberst's When the President talks to God. And follow with DeeDee Warwick's "You're No Good". It'll be the old one-two.

Tue. 1/13/09 9:45am From: Bad Ronald

Good ole Thunderfingers...

Tue. 1/13/09 9:45am From: annie

just reading about bush writing his memoir.. ...

Tue. 1/13/09 9:48am From: nasoj

its really too bad that the FCC would frown upon the playing of megapuss's "a gun on his hip and a rose on his chest" in regards to the goodbye-bush set

Tue. 1/13/09 9:49am From: ~L

Oops, my spelling... That would be "riddance"

Tue. 1/13/09 9:49am From: Hatch

That's a good idea L, but I will have to do that *next* week when I fill in for Benjamin Walker instead.

Tue. 1/13/09 9:53am From: ~L

Annie, re the wild wild east... I understand that people/hamas question. We had a similar scene going down here with people/ira. It goes beyond people/protagonists.

Tue. 1/13/09 10:47am From: annie

as usual the folks who just want to live in peace are the ones whose lives are most affected.. i have mixed feelings about political activism.

Tue. 1/13/09 10:48am From: erella

Tue. 1/13/09 10:59am From: Mickey Mephistopheles

Similar, weird thing that's WFMU related,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EOjm470Rnw
"The Rise And Fall of the Ottoman Empire", from the old WFMU-TV public access show.
Read the comments; there were apparently people from Turkey who took the video seriously and missed the point of the video altogether. Cross-cultural interpretation can be funny that way.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:05am From: dc pat

I meant somebody that matters. But anyway...

Tue. 1/13/09 11:06am From: Hammurabi

As a Babylonian, I find these reggae songs insulting.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:08am From: HotRod

Leave Mickey alone!

Tue. 1/13/09 11:10am From: Lazlo Kovacs

Danny Boyle IS a hack. Get him. And maybe play something from Michael Gira. Thanks.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:11am From: Hatch

I will not leave Mickey alone. The man only has himself to blame.

But like I said, I enjoyed The Wrestler.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:11am From: Carmichael

Not only is it Hatch, but he brought Davey Graham with him! Great day in the morning.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:11am From: Free Speecher

OK. Let's move this conversation away from politics and over to religion. Does your god permit abortions?

Tue. 1/13/09 11:12am From: Cecile

hatch, this is awesome.
I just discovered Davey Graham a few months ago.
My favorite Mingus piece!
Now i need this record.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:12am From: annie

hatch, we stopped ranting..

Tue. 1/13/09 11:12am From: Mickey Mephistopheles

OK, sorry if I pissed anyone off, It was not my intent.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:12am From: Hatch

I do not have a god. But if I did, he would be an abortionist.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:13am From: Bad Ronald

There is no such thing as "Free Will".

Tue. 1/13/09 11:14am From: Cecile

Now, tell me about Arvo Part.
I was listening to the FrankenXM Symphony Hall channel last night, and they played a choral piece that was just crazy haunting.

Free Will with purchase.
that was just crazy beautiful.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:14am From: Sloppy Poppy

just wondering what a 60's Brit-folk supergroup with Davey Graham, John Renbourne, Bert Jansch, and Paul Simon would have sounded like... probably some string snappin good times!

Tue. 1/13/09 11:14am From: Carmichael

Cecile, the CD is readily available and a religious experience. The vinyl, well that's much rarer.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:15am From: John Calvin

Bad Ronald. You are right on point. Predestination is the ticket. Are you one of the saved?

Tue. 1/13/09 11:15am From: Cecile

trading guitar solos for 12 hours and no one would notice the time.

Carm, I figured the first pressing would be, and the MOJO reissue is also sold out. So I'll go with the CD.

nah, I'm trashed.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:16am From: John Calvin Hobbes

Tue. 1/13/09 11:16am From: paul simon

Tue. 1/13/09 11:17am From: Cecile

I think you should play the Coasters' DW Washburn about now.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:17am From: Jerry Garcia

Keith Richards puts my own pathetic attempts to sing this song to shame.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:17am From: annie

john, i saw him outside playing with snowgoons

Tue. 1/13/09 11:18am From: John Calvin Hobbes

thanks, nice lady!

Tue. 1/13/09 11:19am From: Carmichael

A cursory search of the GEMM site located a copy of Graham's album in Greece ($44) and Canada ($29).

Tue. 1/13/09 11:20am From: Cecile

wow, you are on the ball today!

Tue. 1/13/09 11:20am From: Jerry Garcia

BTW, up here, you have a whole other view of religion. I am not allowed to reveal the truth, but I can tell you that you people are silly. Very, very silly.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:22am From: stingy d

JERRY! JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!

Tue. 1/13/09 11:22am From: Cecile

you know, people might pelt me with tomatoes for this, but Ozzy's "Mama I'm Comin' Home" is a great song in this "hey, I'm coming home in pine box" genre. As is just about anyone singing "the green green grass of home"

Tue. 1/13/09 11:22am From: Carmichael

I do not need a miracle, Jerry.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:23am From: stingy d

nah cecile, i like it, i'll a make a you da sauce yea?

Tue. 1/13/09 11:23am From: Hatch

Tue. 1/13/09 11:23am From: Carmichael

So is Charlie Rich's "Feel Like Goin' Home".

Tue. 1/13/09 11:23am From: Ben Franklin

No problem. Just for you! Happy birthday.

Everyone say happy birthday to Lang, please.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:25am From: Carmichael

Tue. 1/13/09 11:39am From: Carmichael

Gotta go. Thanks for the set, Hatch. Have a nice day, everyone!

Tue. 1/13/09 11:39am From: bob loblaw

I watched the 3rd season of The Wire in 1 day (a Saturday) and the 4th in one day (the next day, Sunday). Talk about a lost weekend! When I walked out, I felt like everyone was going to shoot me.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:39am From: bubs

seen johnny?

Tue. 1/13/09 11:41am From: Cecile

bob, that's how I felt after watching the entire first season of the Shield in three days.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:42am From: GP

Good morning Bad Ronald, HATCH!, Annie, Stingy D, Paul the Postman, Cecile, Cosmic, Carmichael. and everyone else...still having connection probs on this end...will check in later....looks like i'm missing a great show.
Hatch, did you win your election?

Tue. 1/13/09 11:42am From: Listener James from Westwood

I did the same thing as you did, while ill, except with Seasons 1 + 2 of "The Sopranos" back between the 2nd and 3rd seasons 'round 99 or 00. Now beginning a long-delayed foray through "Deadwood" and worried, as you are w/ "Wire," about finishing it too soon and not having more. "Wire" is actually Netflix-queued up next.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:43am From: bob loblaw

How many episodes in a season of the Shield?

Tue. 1/13/09 11:44am From: Hatch

I sure did win my election, GP. I was running unopposed. I ran into my State Senator a few weeks ago and he told me I was a bad politician because I couldn't remember which election district I represent.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:44am From: bob loblaw

I also watched an entire season of Arrested Development while trapped in a hotel in Caracas.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:47am From: Cecile

the earlier ones had like 22, but now it's more like 13-15.
I haven't watched the last 7 eps or so cause I know there will be no more when I'm done.

that's so silly.

bob, that explains a lot.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:48am From: paulthepostman's son tom

first time listener. ive heard alot about WMFU through my dad and I think its living up to its expectations.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:48am From: Listener James from Westwood

"Arrested Development" was the 1st series-binge I engaged in when I got Netflix. "Shield " would be a good post/Inter-"Wire" series for me to snack on.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:48am From: annie

welcome to the sandbox tom..

Tue. 1/13/09 11:50am From: GP

Welcome PTPS Tom..glad you are able to join us today.

Hatch..meh...district, schmistrict..I can't remember what precinct I'm in either..what matter is the message not the detail...(insert winking smiley face here).

Tue. 1/13/09 11:50am From: Cecile

Listener James, it is an addictive snack. Like eating whole pickled jalapenos and chasing them with ever clear.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:51am From: Gas

Hi. Could you play some Rockamovya?

Tue. 1/13/09 11:51am From: dc pat

I not big on TV at ALL but I did just watch Extras -- there are only about 7 in all.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:52am From: still b/p

Sheesh! Don't know where folks find (or do ace mgmt. of) the time for these TV archive immersions. But I've had strong praisey recommendations for Deadwood. Should I pull that trigger?

Tue. 1/13/09 11:53am From: Cecile

i for one am letting a ton of other stuff slide, for sure.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:55am From: bob loblaw

I love series-binging. Other shows I've consumed in basically 1-2 days:

Freaks and Geeks
Mad Men
Weeds
30 rock
Sopranos
Alias (got progressively worse after season 1)
True Blood (admittedly, this show blows, but my brother had it Tivoed, so we watched 8 episodes in one sitting - so depressing).

I'm sure there are others, but sadly nothing has ever matched A.D. or The Wire. The thing is, I don't have an antenna or cable, so I only watch TV shows when they come out on DVD. Actually, I only watch DVDs, so while I consume shows in a binge-like fashion, my overall TV-watching is probably pretty low comparatively.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:56am From: Lang

House. I watch House

Tue. 1/13/09 11:56am From: Doug from DC

I once fell into a profound depression and watched six hours of Swamp Thing.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:56am From: annie

my son just found the entire collection of tin-tins on dvd.. he's sending them to me when he's done.. wooohoo!

Tue. 1/13/09 11:57am From: bob loblaw

The original Office is another one that is doable in a day since there are only a handful of episodes. Ab Fab and other BBC shows are usually pretty doable.

I avoid most weekly US shows, like the US Office because there's like 300 episodes, and I def. do not have time for that.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:58am From: bob loblaw

Swamp Thing was a show? Sounds terrible, like watching 6 hours of Beauty and the Beast, or True Blood.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:58am From: Bad Ronald

I like vintage Looney Tunes!

Tue. 1/13/09 11:58am From: stingy d

Tue. 1/13/09 11:58am From: bob loblaw

I'd like to watch a full day of Manimal.

i'm addicted to old movies

Tue. 1/13/09 11:59am From: Doug from DC

It was on Sci Fi Channel or Nickelodeon, when they were doing marathon broadcasts. Not sure if they do anymore, TV's gone by the wayside for me.

Tue. 1/13/09 11:59am From: stingy d

aw man... i missed the rats!

Tue. 1/13/09 12:00pm From: bob loblaw

Mon. 4/13/09 3:33am From: Kay Reynolds

my sis just spotted this. You played a song by our dad, Harry Reynolds of Ashman Reynolds - thank you, we are really proud of his music and still love this album, but don't think it ever got the exposure it deserved.
