Listener comments!

  12:03pm
Cecile:

agh, am I evil for not liking Jonathan Richman after the Modern Lovers?
  12:05pm
Jorge:

Hey Liz, ears like radars since now, salutes from Barcelona, is nice to tune in again
  12:06pm
Cecile:

how did that mall show go? Unfortunately, I had to miss it.
  12:08pm
Liz B.:

Hi everyone! The mall show went great!
  12:10pm
Cecile:

I loved the concept so much.
I should really get it out of the archives.
  12:14pm
Liz B.:

Ben and I talked to a bunch of kids skipping school, St. Nick the Bard scared toddlers, and we had a $5 shop-off. I still can't believe we did it!
  12:17pm
Cecile:

who won the shop off?

Agh, you put Nick into the mix? oh, dear.

that sounds awesome.
  12:18pm
Liz B.:

The shop-off was very close, but I think the winner was volunteer Brian, who picked up a Jesus toast stamp.
  12:20pm
Cecile:

NICE! I should fly out to the next one - I am the ninja of budget shopping...

Great, WFMU, you got me interested in another incredibly rare record...
  12:21pm
jorge:

coolhaven sounds like the better beatles into a sparks tribute album
  12:24pm
marty mcsorley:

Happy new year liz,
man the mall was never the hang out when we ditched school. i think i was more in the under the bridge crowd. (prob getting toasted and looking for jesus) what's wrong w/ these kids today?
  12:27pm
Liz B.:

I was in the toasted with Jesus crowd, too, Marty, we NEVER went to the mall when we were ditching school!
  12:27pm
Ike:

This Parts & Labor album is really excellent.
  12:28pm
Cecile:

me and a friend always just went to the sub shop and ordered something delicious but horrible. then we looked at records.
  12:32pm
jorge:

is funny i used to work at a record shop when i had like 14 years old, so after finishing school i run out to the store, the guy hired me cause i was such a pain in the ass asking for records that he don´t know about haha, fun times
  12:32pm
risky!:

morning everyone, liz the sounds are spot on!
  12:39pm
annie:

had my significant other up here for a long weekend and had to keep the volume down on the tunes.. now that he is safely back in NJ i have the music LOUD!! and what a great selection..
  12:41pm
jennysue:

hey Liz, what's yr background music?
  12:41pm
fishmonkeystew:

Hiya, lizberg! The wife and I listened to your (and BW's) Mall show archive about 6 times over the holiday. Nicely done!
  12:43pm
cosmic:

tuning in for 1st time in 09! happy new year everyone, liz, annie, cecile..
hey am i the only boy!?
  12:44pm
Cecile:

You wish. No, there are some dudes here.
  12:44pm
annie:

HNY cosmic..no, i think there are other males lurking
  12:45pm
cosmic:

haha damn. felt like the rooster there for a minute ;)
  12:45pm
jorge:

the other (posting) male here
  12:46pm
cosmic:

im your rooster
  12:46pm
Cecile:

*hen-pecking board*
  12:48pm
Nick the Bard:

I only made ONE kid cry, all the rest of them either ran right up me or didn't know what the hell was going on.
  12:50pm
Cecile:

well, thanks Nick for setting that straight.

Santa scared me as a kid, so one incident is pretty damn good.
  12:50pm
Liz B.:

You're right, Nick, you were an EXCELLENT santa! Only the parents were afraid!
  12:54pm
cosmic:

at least you made one cry, if you were trying to, you could consider that 1 point!
  12:58pm
Nick the Bard:

One mother just plopped her one year old on my lap, then made her older kid stand next to me and got a picture.

The first kid that showed up was all excited, but her mother HATED me. They even came by again later and it was still the case. I think that kid if gonna grow up to be awesome.

If theres another mall remote, I'll do it again, even if it's in the summer.
  12:58pm
paulthepostman:

Hi guys and girls, doods, roosters and schnooster poosters.
  1:00pm
cosmic:

hello paul, i came by! well nearly. i got as close as polegate.
  1:00pm
risky!:

Nick your lloving this whole mall santa thing way too much.
  1:02pm
annie:

cosmic, i hope you waved in his general direction
  1:04pm
marty mcsorley:

easter is a few months. . . . . nick the bard becomes nick the bunny!
  1:06pm
oyente timoteo:

Liz, Liz, LIZ! ¡Amiguita! Muchas gracias para "En Primavera." Prospero nuevo año a todos.
  1:06pm
Cecile:

'FMU needs an animal mascot with some kind of accompanying costume, preferably with a large head.
  1:07pm
Cecile:

how about the "earworm"
  1:08pm
Nick the Bard:

I have a bunny costume in mind in general, so, I'll do it.

And risky, if you saw me at the record fair, you'd know this is more of a "getting to wear crappy costumes in public" thing than anything
  1:08pm
Liz B.:

!Oye Timoteo! Ojala que 2009 va mejor que 2008.
  1:10pm
Cecile:

nice!

I was Snowball, the Prange's Department Store Christmas Dog once, for an afternoon. Loved it. But then the other Snowball got better and they didn't need me for that. *sniff*
  1:12pm
annie:

i was a clown at a summer fair one year and had a nice paint job on my face. i saw one of my students from school and went over to him to say hello. he ran away!! very funny..
  1:14pm
paulthepostman:

Hey! Annie, Cosmic and Cecile it's bloody freezing hereandthereabouts.
Annie - Hope your firewood is dry.
Cosmic - Did you go wild in Polegate?!
Cecile - Lots of respect and good '09 wishes to you sir.
  1:14pm
cosmic:

you know what, annie.. i think i did. hard to say as i like to drink when on the train.

i like this downstairs song
  1:14pm
Cecile:

he was right to run, Annie. Clowns scare me, too. My mom put me in a clown suit one year, and I refused to put makeup on my face. LOL!

Later I learned I was allergic to all that stuff, but I think it was funny that I was so adamant about it without knowing it.

the singer on Religious Knives sounds like the Triffids dude or Kim Salmon
  1:15pm
jorge:

i was a frozen santa at a flaming lips show here in Barcelona it was hilarious, next to me were fellas from sonic youth and the boredoms jumping and dancing like maniacs.
  1:16pm
Cecile:

sir?!?!?!
PTP...I am un girl
but thank you for the kind wishes.

Jorge! what an experience that must have been. Awesome.
  1:16pm
Cecile:

and it's bloody freezing here, too.
  1:17pm
annie:

yeah, this track rocks.. PTP, the wood is inside and stacked and dry.. when bob is here, he likes to cut wood and burn it right away.. it's all wet and takes forever.. now i can use dry wood again.. cecile, i told the kid about it later and he was so cute, he hugged me.. it was sweet
  1:17pm
cosmic:

i didnt stop mate. i got met at the station and took into the farmland of sussex and a beach in kent. i got dropped back at polegate a few days after xmas and i was still in the wind of it all, if you get my meaning, so in a way i did.
  1:18pm
Jorge:

yeah cecile was kinda of an amazing nightmare i almost get burned with all the parafernalia, well here is not as bloody as in the states but its cold too, i also was michael jackson when i was 6 years old but thats another psychedelic trip lol
  1:21pm
cosmic:

im studying for an essay on symbolism, and the song which caught my attention was by the religeous knives! hmmm
  1:22pm
cosmic:

think id better learn how to spell religious, then
  1:24pm
Nick the Bard:

My brother and three other kids had to perform "Beat It" dressed like Michael Jackson in a preschool talent show. That was around '86 though, so that was before the whole creepy falling apart stuff.
  1:27pm
jorge:

i performed thriller with a bunch of creepy little kids backing me up, yeah jackson at 86 was a big deal, i beg to do the moonwalk on stage but my teachers said NOOO, still hate her for that
  1:27pm
annie:

i still question why my class voted me, a short small-framed person, to play the role of christmas yet-to-come for our school xmas play..
  1:28pm
Nick the Bard:

Actually, it was the pre-graduation ceremony talent show to be more exact.
  1:34pm
Cecile:

wow...you guys had cool schools.
  1:36pm
paulthepostman:

Cecile, Ha! Cor Biimey O'Reilly.... my apologies, I am so clumsy socially.
  1:37pm
HotRod:

Good afternoon, Liz!!!
  1:42pm
Nick the Bard:

I graduated from the same preschool (base in a raquet club of all places), and I got sing "apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie", bleh. We did get it on video though, back in 1984, so everyone thought my dad was a professional camera guy taping it.

Even that age I couldn't sing the song "normal" (I was ending a lot fo the lines as questions, and the kid I was singing it with was emphasising every "pie").
  1:44pm
Jorge:

Liz, talking about southamerican and potatoland, i think you would like to check out an LP by the new juggler sound called trouble childs, 60s psychedellic mellow pop record from a lima-potatoland band. They ended being We All together
  1:47pm
still puzzled:

My buddies and I discussed -- but didn't execute -- a plan to be the intermission entertainment at the high school school musical, in monk robes(?), lip-synching to a playlist that included (mid-70s)Aerosmith and Roxy Music and a couple of unrecollected others. Thank god for lost momentum in the talk and not walking the double-odd walk.
  1:47pm
carlos icaza:

liz! wishing a great 2009 and listening to your fantastic show
greetings from mexico city.
new juggler sound is reissued on the vampisoul compilation back to peru, by the way..
  1:48pm
Jorge:

yeah carlos i have that record too, but you have to check out that LP is pretty good shit, Electro Harmonix from Spain editing
  1:50pm
frenchee:

wow! st. nick the bard....positively terrorizing!
I was a santa's helper six zillion years ago...vinyl go-go boots and John Denver's X-mas album all day long.
  2:02pm
Liz B.:

Thanks for the suggestions, Jorge and Carlos, I love We All Together, so this will be cool to check out! Happy 2009 to everyone!
  2:03pm
Cecile:

still puzzled - slow that down to a crawl, and dim the stage, and I think that was the Sunn0)))) show I saw

Jorge, potatoland! LOL!
i will have to tell my friend that, her first husband was Peruvian.

Nice, frenchee!
  2:03pm
Jonas Brothers:

hey play some R Stevie Moore!
  2:06pm
Jorge:

my pleasure liz.

Cecile that was miss Berg invention actually you can check out the archives, she dedicated a whole show to potatoland, and i worked as her internet-tourist-guide till then lol
  2:10pm
Cecile:

Oh, cool! that's hilarious.
  2:11pm
Cecile:

wait, this doesn't sound like the Missing Persons I know....
  2:13pm
Jorge:

thats what i was about to say, i was waiting for like a cornelius meets stockahusen re-mix of "Words" but this is too much isn´t it?
  2:15pm
Cecile:

yeah, but only because we'll never see a remix of "no one walks in LA" by Danger Mouse
  2:16pm
Liz B.:

This Missing Persons was from Essex UK, different band, same name, both great.
  2:17pm
Jorge:

  2:18pm
