Tuned in yesterday for the first time and today again a reference my patch (Kent, UK). Kevin Ayer and Softmachine. Got interested in Softmachine in the 70s and when I moved to Kent I ended up living right opposite Hugh Hopper. Great stuff!

I think the reason Charlatans UK are referred to that way is to differentiate them from the not-too-well-known, but influential, The Charlatans, one of the first "psychedelic" bands from San Francisco in the mid-60s.
