Titubanda

Titubanda – “The Wavering Band” – is a Roman representative in a global street band movement. The group is an egalitarian musical collective with anywhere from 30 to 50 (plus) members that plays everything from traditional Italian village songs to avant-guard jazz via Latin American rhythms and Arabic melodies. In Italy they perform at demonstrations and street actions – as well as activist band festivals and even the occasional club gig. And with a right wing prime minister in Italy and a mayor with fascist roots in Rome, they currently have plenty to keep them busy!

Below (or here) is a video of Titubanda at the annual October Boston-area event that brought them to our shores,
the HONK festival of activist street bands (note the lobster headgear):

Listener comments!

Sat. 11/15/08 6:17pm Ike:

There are always so few comments for this show, even though there are undoubtedly heaps of listeners. Helllllooooooo? Office drones must populate weekday comments sections, as a distraction from worrying about getting laid off. Nobody else makes comments from home? Or wirelessly?

Sat. 11/15/08 6:19pm Bad Ronald:

Second comment.
Woo Hoo

Sat. 11/15/08 6:30pm Parq:

Can't speak for Ron, D, etc., Ike, but during the weekday I'm chained to my desk, and therefore near the puter. On weekends, I'm running around, even when I'm at home. That said, Hello Rob, this former marching-band sax player is looking forward to the Italian leftie marchers.

Sat. 11/15/08 6:37pm Bad Ronald:

Pretty much...

Sat. 11/15/08 6:40pm Kati:

Hello! I'm from Brazil! WFMU is my favorite internet radio!

Sat. 11/15/08 6:49pm Kati:

hellooo... anybody here?

Sat. 11/15/08 6:53pm Bad Ronald:

Ola Katie, I dig FMU too!

Sat. 11/15/08 6:53pm Ike:

Hi Kati, I'm still here! Welcome! It's usually quiet on Saturdays here. I think Parq is right. On weekdays, people are chained to their desks at work, so they comment a lot. Right now people are probably driving around. Although it just started raining heavily here in New Jersey so maybe they will all come home.

Sat. 11/15/08 6:58pm kati:

hi Ike and Ronald! here in Brazil, now, a hot wave! i'd like a cold rain to stop this heat!

Sat. 11/15/08 7:00pm Parq:

Hi Katie. I dig Brazil, but haven't been fortunate enough to travel there yet. Excuse me, gang, I gotta go make dinner.

Sat. 11/15/08 7:02pm kati:

have a nice dinner!

Sat. 11/15/08 7:10pm Clad Gonad:

Hey hey BR what's up?

Sat. 11/15/08 7:12pm kati:

saturday night at home... and you? planning go out?

Sat. 11/15/08 7:14pm Clad Gonad:

Actually I was cleaning the fridge while listening to some Brazilian music. Now I switched to FMU...

Sat. 11/15/08 7:16pm kati:

brasilian music? what kind of?

Sat. 11/15/08 7:22pm kati:

i have a question for titubanda: do they work with improv, happenings?

Sat. 11/15/08 7:25pm CG:

Chico Buarque, Jorge Ben Jor... Hey Bad Ronald don't be upset, it's just that this one is so good iI can't quite let go. But I will, I will. BTW yes, I was Rad Bonald too. ;)

Sat. 11/15/08 7:25pm Your DJ:

Kati, the interview was pre-recorded so they're not here to answer, but I think they would. You could contact them through their website which is http://www.titubanda.it. There may also be some similar bands in Brazil actually although I don't know for sure.

Sat. 11/15/08 7:29pm kati:

oh, sorry! thanks, anyway! i'll visit the site.

Sat. 11/15/08 7:29pm Bad Ronald:

Ha!

Sat. 11/15/08 7:54pm alan t.:
