Balval

Hear this show now: RealAudio | | Add or read comments

Balval is a lively young string-driven Paris-based band inspired by Eastern European Gypsy / Roma music but with many other elements in the mix. The band’s debut cd Blizzard Boheme (Whaling City Sounds) features original arrangements of traditional songs – but Balval is now developing an original repertoire as well, often creating musical accompaniments to poems by contemporary Roma writers. Our session was recorded right before Balval kicked off its US-debut inter-borough NYC tour.

I'm listening, too. In fact, Barba Yiorgi just happened by my computer and was momentarily sucked in! But do I get a mention?

Great show thus far, Rob!

Sat. 11/8/08 6:43pm From: Your DJ

Well, it's all downhill from here I'm sure... no, except for Balval, Balval is great!

Sat. 11/8/08 6:53pm From: Sharon

Can't wait to hear 'em. And to listen to your Obama theme show in the archive. The kid is out at a band showcase tonight so I can listen to MY music! Poor Yiorgo is cleaning the studio, but I'm sure he's tuned in down there. Giving you at least a 2 rating here on India Street.

Sat. 11/8/08 7:12pm From: astral being

will you be playing any more yma sumac (god bless her) tonight?

Sat. 11/8/08 7:16pm From: Your DJ

Astral Being - I'm afraid I have to say no - I don't usually play more than one song by an artist (except for guests). Your best bet is DJ Daniel Blumin at midnight, if you want to make a request then...
