Obama is Beautiful World!

Hear this show now: | Add or read comments

Obama, Obama, and more Obama! A world-musicky Obama love-fest.

File under: Too much is not enough!

Perhaps there will soon be a musical genre simply known as Obama. Why not?

This show will be reprised in a special silly-music-bed and otherwise enhanced, streamlined version 7-8am on Tuesday November 4 as part of FMU's election day Electicle Dysfunction web stream.

This administration would like to thank the following people for their generous non-financial contributions to the cause:

Anastasia Tsioulcas / Anna Watson / Bob Godfried / CC Smith / DJ Lightbolt / DJ Neva / Ethan Donaldson / Jamie Propp / Jenifer Shepherd / Jim Phillips / Joel Davis / Jose Conde / Megan Romer / Patricia Herlevi / Ruben Gonzalez / Sylvain Leroux / Tom Frouge / Tom Pryor / Ukelilli a/k/a Lillian Parker

Here's an article I wrote for my day job (WNYC) that provides additional info on some of the songs:

Comic relief is here:

Jose says this song was inspired by his Cuban-born mom, who like many Cubans who left for the US after Castro came in tends to vote Republican. But this time she's voting for Obama and that inspired Jose to write this song.

Ruben Gonzalez: Voy Por Obama Options
Finally, a TRUE Obama love song. Sample lyrics in translation:
My girlfriend she’s crazy about Obama / And she’s always in the mood / I, of course, take advantage / I don’t want the elections to ever come around / The TV is on all the time / And when the news come on / She looks at him / And she feels sensations / I’m for Obama / There is no other (option) / He’s on fire / He’s even gotten in my bed / Naturally I’m for Obama / For his presence on the screen / With that look and with that shape / And because he has my lady “in heat” / I’m for Obama

  Sat. 11/1/08 6:37pm Your DJ:

Yes, I'm actually a bit optimistic! It's a strange feeling...

  Sat. 11/1/08 6:48pm katie:

you are entertaining Norma's birthday party in MIchigan. Question from a party-going:
what country claims the most Obama songs?
  Sat. 11/1/08 6:56pm Your DJ:

Happy birthday Norma! I'm sure you're LOVING this music. Sorry I couldn't find any Obama a la Hildegard...
  Sat. 11/1/08 6:57pm barney:

All the 19-month olds here are dancing happily and saying "Obama" every so often.
  Sat. 11/1/08 7:04pm Julian:

Well, your show gets the Japanese vote. Always does!

That Du-Tells track is based on Black Betty, credited to Leadbetter and made into a hit by Ram Jam . You MUST know that surely, Mista DJ?!
  Sat. 11/1/08 7:09pm Your DJ:

Why thank you Julian. A special song for your adopted homeland is coming by the way. And yes, Black Betty, d'oh! (Although Americana I have to say is my WEAK point.) Thanks for filling that in!
  Sat. 11/1/08 7:11pm julian:

Did you know Obama's popularity here is pretty much entirely based on the fact that there is a town called Obama? It's enough to inspire manic devotion and, quite probably, a specially themed ramen.
  Sat. 11/1/08 7:16pm Your DJ:

The title of today's show "Obama is Beautiful World" is actually taken from a song by a band called Anyone Brothers Band. They recorded a YouTube video in Obama town and the lyrics and visuals play on the double-meaning! (I have the video embedded here if you scroll down to the bottom of the playlist.) My other Japanese-speaking Anglo friend tells me that in the song the male singer is actually pretending to sing with an American accent - although I sure couldn't tell! We'll be playing the song later.
  Sat. 11/1/08 7:18pm julian:

Excellent! I can't wait!
  Sat. 11/1/08 7:52pm annie:

seems all the flash stuff is slowing down IE. bummer
  Sat. 11/1/08 8:07pm ?:

Oh yes! This was so worth waiting for!!!!
  Sat. 11/1/08 8:20pm Billy Jam:

Ireland represent. Yeah!
  Sat. 11/1/08 8:21pm johN:

glad the election will be over soon.
  Sat. 11/1/08 8:21pm Ike:

Annie, don't use Internet Exploder. Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are way better. Firefox is especially nice with Adblock Plus, NoScript, and Flashblock added on. With Flashblock you can choose which Flash you want to see and which you don't.

Wow, lots of Obama songs! I didn't expect to hear an Irish one. (Hey Billy Jam!)
  Sat. 11/1/08 8:23pm katie:

The Campbells are howling from the Irish O'Bama!
  Sat. 11/1/08 8:41pm alan t.:

Great show, hope he wins.Saw Claire and the Reasons over here in Scotland a few weeks ago, they did a very short ,witty "Obama"song too.
  Sat. 11/1/08 8:43pm Your DJ:

Thanks Alan! Ken Freedman, our political spoof-master (and Station Manager) has played that Claire and the Reasons song a few times. I might play it at the end of tonight's show if there's time.
  Thu. 11/6/08 2:18am ObamaSongs:

In reply to Katie's question "what country claims the most Obama songs?", I have been keeping track of that... aside from the USA of course, the country contributing the most songs is Jamaica. Runners-up are Canada, Germany, and England.
