Mornin' Doug, et al (whose al) Anyhow, I just have to shout about the ride to work this AM. Mist rising, slant of autumn sun, colors rising on the trees. AWESOME!!!!

Fri. 10/10/08 9:07am From: fishmonkeystew

You're very eloquent today, Doug. Good morning!

Fri. 10/10/08 9:22am From: Paul Sherratt

I melt at the sound of Brassens. But I wonder if our very own late, great, Jake Thackray, a pal of Georges and a very similar style of troubadour would be appreciated outside of the UK...

Fri. 10/10/08 9:29am From: annie

morning all and a shout to gumby and his leaves.. we are brilliant here as well. (not to mention quite smart)

Fri. 10/10/08 9:34am From: GP

Glad at least the weather is nice up that way, we had a weird smell over our own today..don't know what that was, but I am glad it is Friday.

Fri. 10/10/08 9:35am From: stingy d

was it like the cookie smell that afflicted new york a few years ago, or was it the sewery smell that afflicts new york rather constnatly?

Fri. 10/10/08 9:36am From: annie

sorry to hear that gp, got your gas mask handy? yes friday and the weekend to look forward to and lots of canning and preserving.. anyone know any quaint ways to put up tomatillos?

Fri. 10/10/08 9:39am From: GP

More like a nasty sewer/chemical mix...but man Friday just keeps getting better...thanks Doug for the shot of Zydeco and Cajun!
Annie, I wish I did, I'd sure like to learn how to can. I failed miserably at an attempt to grow an urban garden this summer.

Fri. 10/10/08 9:45am From: annie

i'm thinking green-tomato/tomatillo chutney!!. next year your garden will burst with food! now that you know the ins and outs basically.. barrels and buckets.. drainage and sun.. all you should require..and patience with your learning...

Fri. 10/10/08 9:45am From: Parq

Mmmm, Loo-see-anna. May it come back some day - though, I fear, probably not in my lifetime. Heckuva job, indeed.

Fri. 10/10/08 9:46am From: GP

Swamp Pop!
Used to be able to listen to KLRZ online direct from LaRose, LA and heart of Cajun country...morning had Zydeco, etc., and the rest of the day nothing but Swamp Pop...Our corporate IT dept. has them now blocked along with jsut about every other streaming media you can think of..but FMU still gets through!! (stealth is good)

Fri. 10/10/08 9:48am From: fishmonkeystew

Whew! Did you see that 1000 point drop a little while ago?

Fri. 10/10/08 9:49am From: annie

crash!!

Fri. 10/10/08 9:56am From: stingy d

any good zydeco records i should go out and get, hard to find or otherwise?

Fri. 10/10/08 9:56am From: GP

Annie,
I'll let you know how it goes next year. I think you are on the right track...if things get rally bad having some home canned food will not be a bad idea..plus you know where you food comes from, an even better thing!

Fri. 10/10/08 9:58am From: annie

If you think Obama is the cure, think harder

Fri. 10/10/08 10:12am From: GP

Crazy, I'm watching the Yahoo DOW chart and it can't even keep up.It was showing -765.00, then down ONLY -125, then down -685, now it is -648, now back to -702...We will be talking about this week ( and year) for a LOOONG time.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:15am From: stingy d

wu-tang is the cure.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:15am From: Salat

It's Monk's day today on WKCR

Fri. 10/10/08 10:17am From: k-rex

great piece on Morning Edition this AM, young piano player talking about Monk, Wish I could remember the cats name.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:18am From: stingy d

too bad i can't listen to kcr online. but it's ok, and yea k-rex, thats what tipped me off. i think he was from houston. froget his name too though.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:20am From: Matt

K-rex, I think it was Jason Moran.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:20am From: Doug

Stingy D:
Monk would be a LOVELY idea. But, alas, not today.

JTK:
Who the hell has ever said anything about a cure? We live in the real world. Which of these chaps do you think would fuck things up less? That's the guy you gotta go for. One thing is for sure: If the world watches the U.S. elect McCain, then you will see real panic. We Americans are, mostly, too stupid to see it, but the rest of the planet understand the symbolism of Obama's opportunity.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:21am From: bzul

Matt - Thanks!

Fri. 10/10/08 10:26am From: Matt

I'll write in the RZA too, but who should his running mate be? GZA? Ghostface?

Fri. 10/10/08 10:27am From: north guinea hills

my vote's for ghostface. he'd be an awesome veep! one love!

Fri. 10/10/08 10:29am From: stingy d

i mean rza for president...
i think we should put cappadonna as vp... really make people think about the validity.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:32am From: rey cruz

Loved those ol' school merengues. I can hear my parent's feet now shuffling on the linoleum as they danced to Dioris, Cesar Concepcion and Luis Kalaaf.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:36am From: GP

rey, what a great image and a great way to grow up, every house should have music in it.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:44am From: Intangible Arts

heavy thanks for this track...... Complete Communion is the bee's freaking knees, i tell you.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:49am From: stingy d

i agree- i have been listening to marzette watts because of the last show... and i think i am gonna go after this stuff next!

Fri. 10/10/08 10:52am From: Intangible Arts

i found a near-mint copy of the orig. 1965 vinyl of Complete Communion in the basement of a classical record-shop in London a few weeks ago, stupidly cheaply-priced, even after the $$ conversion; i just about peed myself with delight. a bit of record geekness, there.

Fri. 10/10/08 10:59am From: gumby

Let the horn love rain down on us!

Fri. 10/10/08 11:03am From: rey cruz

I've always loved jazz but it wasn't until I listened to an Ed Blackwell birthday broadcast on WKCR that I finally "got" free jazz. Seems it's the rhythm that always pulls me in.

Fri. 10/10/08 11:06am From: annie

folks, it's been real.. gonna go shopping now for canning stuff. see you all next week.

Fri. 10/10/08 11:09am From: cecile

damn, missed complete communion.

On the more humorous front, my iTunes "Genius" playlist selector suggests the new Britney Spears would go well after this. You have been notified, Doug.

Fri. 10/10/08 11:14am From: Cecile

I would have liked to go to Fred Wesleyan university.

Fri. 10/10/08 11:20am From: cecile

Fri. 10/10/08 11:29am From: Paul Sherratt

This IS bizarre. The family met up for a pub lunch in Ledbury, Herefordshire, England last Sunday. We couldn't stay on for the band who would be ( eventually... ) playing for free in the early evening. So can't give you an update on The Spike Drivers, sorry !

Fri. 10/10/08 11:30am From: stingy d

the association! this is great!

Fri. 10/10/08 11:33am From: Paul Sherratt

Not sure if our Spike Drivers come from Motor City UK, by the way.

( We don't have one now, anyway ! )
