Paul Sherratt:
I melt at the sound of Brassens. But I wonder if our very own late, great, Jake Thackray, a pal of Georges and a very similar style of troubadour would be appreciated outside of the UK...
|
Fri. 10/10/08 9:29am
annie:
morning all and a shout to gumby and his leaves.. we are brilliant here as well. (not to mention quite smart)

GP:
Glad at least the weather is nice up that way, we had a weird smell over our own today..don't know what that was, but I am glad it is Friday.
|
Fri. 10/10/08 9:35am
stingy d:
was it like the cookie smell that afflicted new york a few years ago, or was it the sewery smell that afflicts new york rather constnatly?
|
Fri. 10/10/08 9:36am
annie:
sorry to hear that gp, got your gas mask handy? yes friday and the weekend to look forward to and lots of canning and preserving.. anyone know any quaint ways to put up tomatillos?
|
Fri. 10/10/08 9:39am
GP:
More like a nasty sewer/chemical mix...but man Friday just keeps getting better...thanks Doug for the shot of Zydeco and Cajun! Annie, I wish I did, I'd sure like to learn how to can. I failed miserably at an attempt to grow an urban garden this summer.
|
Fri. 10/10/08 9:45am
annie:
i'm thinking green-tomato/tomatillo chutney!!. next year your garden will burst with food! now that you know the ins and outs basically.. barrels and buckets.. drainage and sun.. all you should require..and patience with your learning...

Swamp Pop! Used to be able to listen to KLRZ online direct from LaRose, LA and heart of Cajun country...morning had Zydeco, etc., and the rest of the day nothing but Swamp Pop...Our corporate IT dept. has them now blocked along with jsut about every other streaming media you can think of..but FMU still gets through!! (stealth is good)

Annie, I'll let you know how it goes next year. I think you are on the right track...if things get rally bad having some home canned food will not be a bad idea..plus you know where you food comes from, an even better thing!

stingy d:

Matt:
K-rex, I think it was Jason Moran.
|
Fri. 10/10/08 10:20am
Doug:
Stingy D: Monk would be a LOVELY idea. But, alas, not today. JTK: Who the hell has ever said anything about a cure? We live in the real world. Which of these chaps do you think would fuck things up less? That's the guy you gotta go for. One thing is for sure: If the world watches the U.S. elect McCain, then you will see real panic. We Americans are, mostly, too stupid to see it, but the rest of the planet understand the symbolism of Obama's opportunity.

Intangible Arts:
i found a near-mint copy of the orig. 1965 vinyl of Complete Communion in the basement of a classical record-shop in London a few weeks ago, stupidly cheaply-priced, even after the $$ conversion; i just about peed myself with delight. a bit of record geekness, there.

I've always loved jazz but it wasn't until I listened to an Ed Blackwell birthday broadcast on WKCR that I finally "got" free jazz. Seems it's the rhythm that always pulls me in.
