Playlist for This Is the Modern World with Trouble - July 24, 2008

Thursdays 9am - Noon on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Thu. 7/24/08 9:22am From: chris in brooklyn

Thu. 7/24/08 9:26am From: Negator

BLOODROCK!

Thu. 7/24/08 9:29am From: 55 Fingers

Was that a Jay Ward soundtrack for transition music before?

Thu. 7/24/08 9:30am From: paul

GOD IN HEAVEN TEACH ME HOW TO DIIIIEEEEEE

Thu. 7/24/08 9:31am From: 55 Fingers

Is it me or is the stream not matching Trouble's list?

Thu. 7/24/08 9:33am From: Negator

Yeah, they're playing "a game". I love Bloodrock though.

Thu. 7/24/08 9:33am From: chris in brooklyn

55: I was wondering about that too. figured I was just dumb or something.

Thu. 7/24/08 9:35am From: stu

the song title display on the player is not matching whats' being played. yesterday I had a song of Ken's for hours - it never changed.

Thu. 7/24/08 9:36am From: Negator

This station kick's ass too. I wonder if it's the same station as last time. Ken "F'n" Freedman. He really does amuse himself.

Thu. 7/24/08 9:40am From: Peter

What was that song.. "I Remember" that was played around 9:28AM? I did not know whether to laugh or cry? I might have to pick that LP up if I ever see it.

Thu. 7/24/08 9:44am From: dale

Stephanie says is beautiful. Is it new or old?

Thu. 7/24/08 9:45am From: Negator

That was the band Bloodrock from Bloodrock II called D.O.A. 1971

Thu. 7/24/08 9:45am From: chris in brooklyn

Peter: I believe you refer to the Bloodrock track "DOA" Their only hit, it charted at 36 in '71.

Thu. 7/24/08 9:49am From: 55 Fingers

Trouble, I'd love to hear jo stafford but us streamers are subjected to 'on the sunday morning coming down', what kris kirstoferson?

Thu. 7/24/08 9:49am From: trouble

the keren ann track is a few years old

Thu. 7/24/08 9:50am From: Peter

Thanks so much. I will keep my eyes peeled for a copy of "Bloodrock II". It was striking!

Thu. 7/24/08 9:51am From: R. P.

This reminds me of April 1st.

Thu. 7/24/08 9:56am From: trouble

whoaaaa, all fixed.! i didn't have a clue why the comments were so not connecting to the music. You need to be more assertive dear web listeners. yell out "Help" when the stream is wack attack! ouch SOrry.xo

Thu. 7/24/08 10:00am From: stu

help - the playlist never listed the bloodrock song. and my winamp palyer is showing "staircase" even tho Trouble is speaking now at the end of the set

Thu. 7/24/08 10:04am From: jason

whats wrong with kris kristoferson?

Thu. 7/24/08 10:04am From: trouble

stu, you might need to hit refresh and/or close down and start upagain to get rid of the old prob

Thu. 7/24/08 10:04am From: Ken

You might need to shut down winamp and start up the stream again, not sure. Everything seems AOK now from my end. Sorry about the problem, the automatic switched screwed up and didn't switch to the main studio at 9am like it's supposed to. So what everybody was hearing was our "Plan C-" randomly shufflingMP3s from our library.

Thu. 7/24/08 10:06am From: Ken

The real shame is that Trouble's opening set today was fantastic. Go back and listen to the archive later.

Thu. 7/24/08 10:06am From: 55 Fingers

jason: Nothing wrong with kris (Hell, Heaven's Gate is my favorite movie!) but he's no jo.

Thu. 7/24/08 10:10am From: stu

ok - I've shut down and re-started. will let you know if I encounter any other abnormalities

Thu. 7/24/08 10:10am From: Negator

Thanks for the update, Ken. The shuffled set was strong. Especially the first 30 min. I always listen to Trouble's show again at home. I also use it as a guide for selecting new music. Trouble is rare......

Thu. 7/24/08 10:14am From: Sasha

mark tamea! truly amazing. thanks trouble

Thu. 7/24/08 10:18am From: spaniel

Thu. 7/24/08 10:20am From: trouble

hey! that's no fair! i would love to play it twice...:)

Thu. 7/24/08 10:26am From: jason

why can't you do "the rewind?" hot 97 does it all the time.

Thu. 7/24/08 10:26am From: spaniel

you have my permission but i'm really enjoying the current trajectory as well.

Thu. 7/24/08 10:26am From: paul

Thu. 7/24/08 10:29am From: Listener Dave from NH

Thu. 7/24/08 10:31am From: 55 Fingers

Put the Trouble Funk in your Trunk!

Thu. 7/24/08 10:39am From: Negator

susan cadogan I will be looking into. Bent Spoon written up in Gormet magazine. I like the name "Troubes"

Thu. 7/24/08 10:41am From: jamesie

I dont know why my winamp playlist had http://live365.com/play/wfmu1 in it.... strange... maybe part of the earlier shenanegans

Thu. 7/24/08 10:42am From: Parq

Miss T, no names please, but I've heard "yammering on" on this station often enough. Your last mike break didn't even come close. I'm glad Ice Pack enjoyed the Kit movie.

Thu. 7/24/08 10:43am From: trouble

the bent spoon in princeton , NJ was also writen up in this issue of edible New jersey

Thu. 7/24/08 10:46am From: nh_dave

I could listen to miles bass lines all day long from this era

Thu. 7/24/08 10:49am From: Listener Dave from NH

I used to live in Princeton (oof - almost 9 years ago?) and still swear by The Halo Pub for ice cream. Also, The Pancake House.
My tastes had to skew cheap because I lived next door to the Record Exchange.

Thu. 7/24/08 10:55am From: trouble

urgh, dave you have exposed my inner core of conflict. I too love halo pub, but bent spoon does blood orange and plum /lavender sorbets...what can i do?

Thu. 7/24/08 10:58am From: Parq

In the words of cheap guy-fantasy movies too numerous to count, Miss T, have both.

Thu. 7/24/08 11:03am From: sugarwolf

you can never eat too much ice cream!!

Thu. 7/24/08 11:06am From: dc pat

I ate so much ice cream last night that my 2 year old son was up all night...

Thu. 7/24/08 11:08am From: john

Oh man, JUST missed Francoise Hardy, who I've had a massive crush on since some high school french class or other....awe-inspiring playlist today!

Thu. 7/24/08 11:10am From: Ken

I just realized that the archive of today's show will not contain the real beginning of Trouble's show. Unless somebody recorded it over the air... let me know if so.. ken at wfmu dot org

Thu. 7/24/08 11:16am From: Listener Rickie D

... in the years that followed airwave listeners teased the online listeners for missing it. Yes, yes, Trouble reached a peak that morning, but there was no proof, merely the memories that a lucky few proudly carried around with them.

Thu. 7/24/08 11:25am From: Parq

"Black Coffee" is one of my most requested songs, I'll tell ya that. Great reading by Sarah.

Thu. 7/24/08 11:37am From: spaniel

a thursday thirdtake!

Thu. 7/24/08 11:49am From: Emile

'yo yo yo, trouble is officially the biggest midget in da game!!!!'

thanks for the slim n' slam

Thu. 7/24/08 11:52am From: dale

wow! the boss goes wall of sound....I've always liked this song.

Thu. 7/24/08 11:55am From: john

Doesn't he sound like Stephin Merritt there, though?

Thu. 7/24/08 11:56am From: pat

@john, totally magnetic fields, with a little riff borrowed from the kids are all right

Thu. 7/24/08 11:56am From: Emile LeBrun

totally!!

Thu. 7/24/08 12:01pm From: dale

wfuv plays that springsteen song, and like everything they play, they play it too much.

Thu. 7/24/08 12:21pm From: Drew

I always thought the Merritt song was kind of a Bruce rip-off circa Born in the USA/Tunnel of Love... so there.
