Playlist for This Is the Modern World with Trouble - July 17, 2008

Thursdays 9am - Noon on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I like Tchaikovsky.

Thu. 7/17/08 9:54am From: trouble

i think that sia piece was lifting the strings from prokofiev's romeo and juliet. anybody know for sure?

Thu. 7/17/08 9:58am From: 55 Fingers

I thought that sounded familiar. Prokofiev, I think you're right. I kept hearing the following march motif in my head.

Thu. 7/17/08 9:58am From: monika

Hi, Trouble! Finally got to work early enough to catch your show live. Also, gotta love Sia.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:03am From: Kyle

My favorite trojan box is her pleasure...

Thu. 7/17/08 10:04am From: fishmonkeystew

I grew up with a Blue and Gold Macaw as a pet. His name was Gilligan and he would scream and scream and scream. He sounded like a pissed off canibal baby with a maniacal chainsaw. Pleasant.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:10am From: GUMBY

NOVA told me last night that some birds have speech impediments and can't get their songs right. Maybe yours had Touret's syndrome.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:12am From: GUMBY

Al Green and the right horn arrangement the aural equivalent of satin on leather.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:25am From: mike

passion pit, what a great song!!

Thu. 7/17/08 10:25am From: monika

This Passion Pit track is nutty and AMAZING.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:28am From: Harvey

WHERE IS DJ ICEPACK?

Thu. 7/17/08 10:30am From: molerat

Anyone else having their 128K mp3 stream drop out?

Thu. 7/17/08 10:31am From: 55 Fingers

My 32k dropped out.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:32am From: molerat

My 128k is back.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:34am From: Ken

Weird, how long were the streams down for?

Thu. 7/17/08 10:35am From: sugarwolf

I just got my swag! I am opening the box NOW

Thu. 7/17/08 10:36am From: Ike

I was getting some drop-outs with re-buffering messages on the 128k for at least 3-4 minutes there, but it's OK now. I just figured it was iTunes' fault (I hate iTunes; I'm not on my usual computer right now).

Thu. 7/17/08 10:37am From: molerat

Disconnected twice. Reconnected quickly.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:40am From: esch oder anarchie!

My windows mp also disconnected. I'm back up on real player (gagg!).

Thu. 7/17/08 10:46am From: Listener Dave from NH

The stream stopped on me a couple of times. It's back up and running, but the currently playing song is still showing Dan Deacon, a mic break and few songs later.
Swag's hitting the streets? I'm silly excited.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:50am From: paul

Same as others: stream was out for at least a minute just after 1030. At the same time WFMU's front page was also unavailable

Thu. 7/17/08 10:57am From: listener mark

good morning, trouble
thanks for all the great tunes

Thu. 7/17/08 10:57am From: C

Is this sound and vision or sweet thing? Either way, it's great.

Thu. 7/17/08 10:58am From: Ian

I love Matthew Dear, he comes into the deli I work at, Zingerman's.

Thu. 7/17/08 11:08am From: Parq

I got my box o' swag yesterday. I immediately turned the AC way up so I could wear the hoodie. And it's quite a vote of confidence, Miss T, that I'm ignoring my pile of premium CDs in favor of your show.

Thu. 7/17/08 11:08am From: north guinea hills

Thu. 7/17/08 11:44am From: andy waltzer

Beautiful show today, as per usual...I just love the sweet flow and feel of your show so much, having your show in the air reminds me of that Domino sugar scent that used to be in Williamsburg (but healthier).

Thu. 7/17/08 11:48am From: amy

oh.. I just came in at the fourtet song. Thanks for pulling tears of joy from my dehydrated little body since. I can now enjoy Thursday.

Thu. 7/17/08 11:52am From: Nick

Good band. Antony has a killer voice!

Thu. 7/17/08 11:56am From: Ike

I can never get used to Antony's squeaky, affected voice, but that Fourtet track blew my mind.

I'm still not used to not hearing Fabio after Trouble, even though his show was on last night and was excellent. Maybe I'll go listen to that archive again:

Thu. 7/17/08 12:00pm From: north guinea hills

damn, ike, you beat me to the bunch. i can get into antony's shit either, and i don't understand why the world loves him......

Fri. 7/18/08 10:15am From: Ben

the opening segment is flawless, could be the best show you've done yet!
