Playlist for Irene Trudel - July 14, 2008

Mondays 3pm - 6pm on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Music floating on calmer seas is "netted" by my ears and released to the hungry listeners. It's a stringy catch, but freuently live and always delectable.

Noted for songs of incredible passion and beauty, Shearwater continues in their tradition of creating lovely storied soundcapes on their latest Matador disc, Rook. The cover of the album even evokes a "Hitchcock-ian" vision reminiscent of "The Birds." Before taking off on the next leg of their tour, which includes opening slots for Coldplay, Shearwater was kind enough to lay down theis nice set for Irene's show on WFMU.

Irene, I bet you would like Cortney Tidwell, but maybe you wouldn't.

Mon. 7/14/08 4:03pm From: s

"Harden My Heart" was Quarterflash

Mon. 7/14/08 4:04pm From: RagnarR in SF Bay

Battle of Land and Sea was covering 80's-era (& fellow Portlanders) Quaterflash. That band's singer Rindy sounded a lot like Mrs. Benatar

Thanks, NGH! Last year I did stumble into one chain store in Montreal that I found some good local CDs. My Peter & I will right in that area. Any other suggestions for Montreal, listeners?

Mon. 7/14/08 4:12pm From: Wes

Why does this guy sound so much like the lead singer from "Talk Talk" on the "Laughing Stock" LP?

Mon. 7/14/08 4:15pm From: Irene

As always, Andy, you are right there with great suggestions. Glad you enjoyed the fill-in! Hope you can do it again sometime.

Mon. 7/14/08 4:19pm From: andy waltzer

Very much my pleasure! Of course, your listeners are the kindest and gentlest souls around. I'm loving Shearwater- didn't know them before. & I was thinking the same as Wes above- Mark Hollis/Talk Talk kind of beauty to the voice.
Cheers, Irene...maybe see you or fill in in September!

Mon. 7/14/08 4:54pm From: Andy in Berlin

Jeez, Irene - theses guys are pretty good! I never heard of them before. Thanks!
