Listener comments!

Wed. 7/9/08 3:07pm From: GUMBY

If it's Lee Morgan it must be Irwin time.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:10pm From: Sean Daily

Nice start to the proceedings.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:13pm From: north guinea hills

wow, never heard this cannonball adderly track before. bravo! stumped again!

Wed. 7/9/08 3:20pm From: Bad Ronald

Nice Steely Dan cover!

Wed. 7/9/08 3:23pm From: Sean Daily

Don't lie to us, Irwin! MARIA WAS REALLY KENNY IN DISGUISE, WASN'T SHE! OR HE!

Wed. 7/9/08 3:24pm From: north guinea hills

some live albums kick ass, it depends on the band/musician....

Wed. 7/9/08 3:26pm From: Bad Ronald

Live at Leeds for example.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:32pm From: Otis

Some live albums suck royal ass. Van Halen's 1993 "Right Here Right Now" is so grandpa, even the codger would enjoy it... maybe.

But the majority of live albums do kick ass. It's always nice to hear a polished band recreate a sound live.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:32pm From: Listener Dave

Is this Moby track the substitute for today's obligatory Hall & Oates track? (See Maria and Ken's playlists for details on the H&O issue).

Wed. 7/9/08 3:34pm From: JJZ

It better not be!

Wed. 7/9/08 3:35pm From: JJZ

Well, I would prefer it not be.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:35pm From: Otis

OIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wed. 7/9/08 3:37pm From: Sean Daily

"Up Came Oil" ROCKS, Irwin.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:38pm From: Bren Collins

I've got this awesome industry "musical" promoting G.E. Electricity. "The Nuclear Kid" is my favourite gun-slingin' western on the record!

Wed. 7/9/08 3:39pm From: Dead Corporate Eyes

one more comment about live albums...I know someone who absolutely abhors hearing the audience. I find that interesting.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:40pm From: Bren Collins

The first Jandek live album irritated me because of that one guy in the audience who kept calling out "Yeah!!" every few seconds. Heh...

Wed. 7/9/08 3:42pm From: carol

Hey. Remembered to tune in (at the office). Heard Moby and thought I was listening to an ordinary radio station....for a minute.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:44pm From: Otis

I would buy an album with nothing but the sounds of audiences. There was recently a recording put out like this but with concert intermissions, http://tinyurl.com/3eyd6j

Wed. 7/9/08 3:50pm From: north guinea hills

Otis, that sounds like a Jan jelinek project....

Wed. 7/9/08 3:55pm From: Irwin

Otis, say hi to Carol. THAT Carol.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:58pm From: Ismael

a little concert intermission would sound good just... about... now.

Wed. 7/9/08 3:59pm From: carol

Hey, don't tell Otis what to do. Loved Dance, dance, dance and not just cuz of the title.

Wed. 7/9/08 4:01pm From: Gigantor

Yay! Calypso! And a new version of Cinemascope! Bring back Muriel (but for the first hour--I miss the last part of your show now)!

Wed. 7/9/08 4:02pm From: Hooty Sapperticker

Hi, Maelo!

Wed. 7/9/08 4:04pm From: Ismael

good mahwing! how ah you? this sounds like Ed Wood. yeuh.

Wed. 7/9/08 4:05pm From: Harvey

song of India!

Wed. 7/9/08 4:06pm From: Groovy

Yeah, groovy

Wed. 7/9/08 4:09pm From: Dead Corporate Eyes

love your vinyl and it will perform

Wed. 7/9/08 4:15pm From: Parq

How 'bout a live recording of Cages 4'33"? An occasional cough, perhaps the rustle of progrm pages . . .

Wed. 7/9/08 4:21pm From: Otis

Bonjour Carol!

Wed. 7/9/08 4:23pm From: Otis

Got any R Stevie Moore today Irwin? Something classic maybe... with you on DRUMS?

Wed. 7/9/08 4:24pm From: carol

Ciao, Otis!

Wed. 7/9/08 4:34pm From: Hooty Sapperticker

This song contains invaluable advice.

Wed. 7/9/08 4:35pm From: Peter K

Regarding that Wayne Shorter track (great choice, by the way): Those musicians whose names you don't know are named McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman, and Elvin Jones. Never heard of 'em. Just a bunch of hack session guys, I guess.

Regarding Louis Jordan: Yes! Yes! More! More! Always worth hearing -- and I'm very pleased to know that he and I practically share a birthday.

Wed. 7/9/08 4:37pm From: Irwin

Pete: Thanks for the personnel on the Shorter track. I have an mp3 and the liner notes are SO TINY.

Wed. 7/9/08 4:38pm From: Otis

You could play Jordan until 6pm and I would be a HAPPY man. This is the PERFECT antidote to a work filled afternoon.

Wed. 7/9/08 4:50pm From: north guinea hills

wow, never heard "jordan for president". wfmu has been throwing me unknowst-to-me jewels at me all day!

Wed. 7/9/08 4:51pm From: Otis

I don't know 1/2 of these songs. I love it, and I my productivity has doubled over the past 1/2hr.

Wed. 7/9/08 4:55pm From: Listener Dave

This Louis Jordan set is the best stuff I've heard all day. Beats Hall & Oates by miles and miles.

Thank you Irwin!

Wed. 7/9/08 4:59pm From: G

I've seen the group name spelled Tympany (not the same as the drum called tympani) -- not sure, though --

Great set...

Wed. 7/9/08 5:01pm From: dave from sea

How about some Slim Gaillard?

Wed. 7/9/08 5:04pm From: Peter K

Unless I missed it, I think that in "Jordan for President" (which I had never heard before either), presumably recorded sometime before the summer of 1952, he name-checks EVERY possible major-party presidential nominee for that year EXCEPT the eventual Democratic candidate, Adlai Stevenson. I'm not sure what this means, but it's kind of interesting, no?

Wed. 7/9/08 5:05pm From: Irwin

"Tympany" -- yep, you iz rite! I done fixed 'em all.

Wed. 7/9/08 5:05pm From: Otis

Slim's "Lauging in Rhythm" has to be one of my favorites of his. Right up there with "How High The Moon". I'm right with ya Dave. If not today, next week Irwin?

Wed. 7/9/08 5:06pm From: Listener Dave

So what would be the best Jordan compilation to buy if you didn't have $200 to blow on the Bear Family box?

Wed. 7/9/08 5:07pm From: G

np -- it's for the historical record, given the archive, lol

Wed. 7/9/08 5:09pm From: dave from sea

The Proper Jordan box, as well as their Slim Gaillard, are both excellent and a great bargain.

Wed. 7/9/08 5:42pm From: Listener Dave

Is anyone else waiting for X Ray Burns to yell "Jonesy!" or is it just me?

Wed. 7/9/08 5:47pm From: Listener Dave

Charmberlain was a setup reliever until about 6 weeks ago. Don't get many wins or even saves there.

Wed. 7/9/08 5:51pm From: Irwin

I know, I know. But FOUR LIFETIME W'S -- and he's already doing corporate endorsements?
