Artist Track Album Label Comments Special

Set 1: the old radio show portion of the evening. (Listen to this set: Pop-up)
Escape  Blood Bath   Favoriting Originally broadcast June 30, 1950  (no label)  "Tired of the everyday routine? Ever dream of a life of romantic adventure? Want to get away from it all?"

...This was the famous opening of every Escape broadcast for years.

This story: anything but romantic, it's an adventure tale of the jungle, greed, and death. Three prospectors are trapped on a sandbar - who will survive? Star: Vincent Price.

From John Dunning's The Encylcopedia Of Old-Time Radio: "...widely considered radio's greatest series of high adventure....Never on radio was the action formula more effectively utilized."

Mic break between Sets 1 & 2. Background music played during it: (Listen to this set: Pop-up)
Les Chakachas  Love is like a Violin (track 4)   Favoriting Arriba!  RCA International  Phat, sentimental sound. Feels like it's the slow song at the record hop.

Set 2: Just think: only 53 minutes to climb one of the summits of rock. (Listen to this set: Pop-up)
Rhys Chatham  Guitar Trio, Pt. 1 - Chicago (CD 3, track 2) (Listen: Pop-up)   Favoriting Guitar Trio Is My Life!    How do you take a single chord and make it into one of the summits of rock? This is how. Sure - - you could call it minimalist, "downtown," heavily influential on everything and everyone from Sonic Youth to Robert Longo....Forget all about that. Get swept along in the ecstatic wave of sound and just FEEL it. Supreme. And a hell of a lot of fun.

And this goes for Part 2, Chicago, which follows.

Rhys Chatham  Guitar Trio, Pt. 2 - Chicago (CD 1, track 2) (Listen: Pop-up)   Favoriting Guitar Trio Is My Life!    Unlike the way the concerts are split up and separated on the 3 CD set, we now hear the second half of the Chicago concert right after the first - exactly the way it really happened. This piece rocks even more intensely than Part 1.

Exciting music....and relaxing.

Saaay - wasn't it just 34 minutes to climb the summit last week? The Chicago concert was longer, not exactly the same line-up...the reward: more music = more pleasure. To say the least.
