He's still around. Last time I saw him was several months ago when the sonics played NY..He DJ'd at the show- did the lyres play? I can't recall, if they did I missed 'em. I wasn 't feeling well and was saving energy for the sonics! But anyway he's in relatively good condition it seemed.

That looks to be a great show at Brighton- Tommy Gunn DJ's too. Unfortunatley I 'll be away and have to miss it!

Actually, I shouldn't put it that way because I kept my expectations low. So I'll just say, they were really great!

The serendipity of a random trawl: have you people been to the swaps site on myspace? I ain't too sure about the last couple of songs. But the first two blew my wig off. From somewhere in England I think (myspace.com/thebloodyswaps)
Tue. 5/20/08 12:35pm
From:

Same here Bluesman! Ya know....The green fuzz was pretty good! Vocs were there, decent guitar sounds, and they had a lot of good energy. So...'nuff for me! It didn't blow me away but it was fun. (And thrust among the mindblowing musicianship rampant at the stomp, it's hard to measure up so to speak!)
Joe, I think the person meant that as a complement about the intro,.. Am I right Pierre? And Cecile.. we aren't allowed to say anything nice about Van Halen here. I think Joe has a rule. If not he should! :)

No need to say sorry, you can like themI just hate Van Halen, moresoe the influence they had spawning a million awful bands/guitar players/imitators. Roth was easily the best thing about the band, which became apparent once Sammy Moron took over.

From:

I'm with Joe and Cynthia--can't stand 'em. I like the minutemen cover of ain't talkin bout love though.

Tue. 5/20/08 12:43pm

It is also now apparent what a dick Eddie is with the whole Michael Anthony/Wolfgang swap...
Tue. 5/20/08 12:44pm
From:
Cynthia
I must side with myself. :) Van Halen did enough damage via bad Eddie noodling to completely eclipse any and all merits of the band.
Tue. 5/20/08 12:44pm
From:
Cecile
Yes. Michael Anthony was VH's ace in the hole. You hear him singing on bootlegs, it's off the hook.
But to stay on topic, boy, I really like Headquarters. Great album.

I'll take any excuse to get back to NOLA. Between the Stomp, visiting da' family and taking my kids to certain "fun" spots, I never got the time to chow at Pascals (BBQ Shrimp, BABY!!!!) Otherwise, mebbe we can have it up in Sloatsburg!
Tue. 5/20/08 12:56pm

They definitely had a knack for covers. However the sheer energy, balls and sense of humor made the band great in it's original incarnation.

DC Pat - Sonics were great! Roslie didn't go full throttlenuts but I didn't expect him to. Larry Parypa's guitar was perfect;y raunchy and great!

When I like something I grew up with, I always second guess it's merit. Lotsa times it's just connected with those yummy memories and wasn't so good after all. Of course even after I realize something is awful, I don't necessarily stop liking it, nor do I have to defend it. I just appreciate it for what it is, warts and all.

Great job by the hall monitors! This new ettes stuff is very good.. very authentic sounding. I usually don't get on board with cutesy sounding vocs but there is enough going on here to balance it out- and there is more going on here than tired girl band gimmickry. Looking forward to the album.

Donner Party was more folkie and more rockin than REM. Had a violin player and pretty distorted guitar parts. Really catchy tunes. Some one reissued their one and only album about 8 years ago(??). WAY better than REM.
