Playlist for The Evan "Funk" Davies Show - February 18, 2008

Wednesdays 9pm - Midnight on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Every show starts with a cut from the ‘70s: Rediscovering the forgotten rockers, revisiting the once-hated disco beats, replaying the power-pop favorites. Next: copious amounts of new releases and occasional live bands. Also: I’m the biggest Nick Gilder fan on WFMU.

Listener comments!

Mon. 2/18/08 11:09pm Jessica:

Of *course* you have the 12".
[scraping bow]

Mon. 2/18/08 11:13pm Jessica:

(The Double Dutch 12". that is.)

Mon. 2/18/08 11:14pm Sybil:

A dutch set?

A double dutch set?

Mon. 2/18/08 11:15pm efd:

ohmigod! Sybil, I only wish I were that clever.

Mon. 2/18/08 11:17pm efd:

of course, if we were broadcasting from the 2nd floor I would be running into the record library to pull whatever Nederbiet collections i could find.
And that Waterpipes & Dykes comp.
And then I'd be pretty much out of ideas.

Mon. 2/18/08 11:22pm Droll:

Postcard from Holland, by Adrian Belew (who I've got tix to see tomorrow night, gonna bootleg it, too), and Pass that Dutch, by Missy Elliot... There's a Hum tune with Dutch spoken at the end, forget the name...
That'd be a cool show to do!

Mon. 2/18/08 11:24pm Sybil:

I was wondering how long you could keep it going :)

There's also Eduardo Bennato's sort-of-rap "Ellogio all follia" based on the work of Erasmus of Rotterdam. Kind of a stretch.

(Don't ask me how I know about that one)

Mon. 2/18/08 11:25pm efd:

i could throw in a Holland-Dozier-Holland composition.

Mon. 2/18/08 11:55pm jackie burkhardt:

heeeeey efd-- whuts shakin?? did you do anything groooovy over the weekend?? i was ROCKIN AS ALWAYS!!!! i loooove the weekends ,,dont you?? WEEKENDS ARE PARRRRRRRRTYYYYY TIME!!!! WHOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO

Mon. 2/18/08 11:59pm Jessica:

Is it me, or does When Things Go Wrong's opening riff sound like Born in Xixax slooowed waay down (minus what would then be truly spooky vocals)? I bet Nina Hagen was a Robin Lane fan.

Tue. 2/19/08 12:47am Randy in NC:

efd- continuing a conversation from a bunch of weeks ago, the other AM top 40 station in Boston in the '60's through the mid '70's was 1510 WMEX. Home of Arnie Woo Woo Ginsburg.

Tue. 2/19/08 12:52am efd:

oh, of course! i can't believe i couldn't think of that. thanks for letting me know... we were mostly a WRKO and WBZ household.

Tue. 2/19/08 1:01am Randy in NC:

Same here.

Tue. 2/19/08 1:03am Ike:

Hearing "Use Me" reminded me of Honeycut, a group that made an overlooked album a couple of years ago. Maybe Withers influenced them.

Tue. 2/19/08 1:17am Ike:

Ooops, I meant to say "GREAT overlooked album."

Also: Hey, it's Bryce! He can even make button-pushing exciting.

Tue. 2/19/08 1:19am Doctor B:

"This is a test. For the next 60 seconds, we will be testing our largest thermonuclear device on your home town. This is only a test!"

Seriously, those EAS tests are a royal pain, are they not?

Tue. 2/19/08 1:39am Pete:

EFD:

Sons & Daughters are supposed to play in Brooklyn @ Music Hall Of Williamsburg on 3/21 and in NYC @ Bowery on 3/22. Can't wait to see them here in Chicago on 3/28

Tue. 2/19/08 1:43am Joe B.:

The Fallen Leaves - an early contender for album of the year!
