Mon. 12/10/07 3:30pm From: sadie

Mon. 12/10/07 3:31pm From: Irwin

No disrespecting Scott Walker around here. That man's earned your worship.

Yes, some calypso planned. A little treasure from Muriel.

And hiya, Kim!

Mon. 12/10/07 3:33pm From: north guinea hills

i can respect a man w/o liking his music just as easily as i can despise a man and love his music

Mon. 12/10/07 3:37pm From: Jackie

can i despise this song?

Mon. 12/10/07 3:39pm From: Wes

What...you don't enjoy feeling like you're shopping @ K-mart?

Mon. 12/10/07 3:40pm From: Charles

This is some mightily icky music.

Mon. 12/10/07 3:41pm From: Charles

I second the calypso... maybe some Lord Melody?

Mon. 12/10/07 3:42pm From: north guinea hills

omg, i have this talbot brothers LP

Mon. 12/10/07 3:42pm From: jackie

the only thing that could have made that song tolerable is if i a slushy in my hand with a wicked case of brain freeze...

Mon. 12/10/07 3:44pm From: Charles

Is Miley Cyrus related to that Billy Ray halfwit?

Mon. 12/10/07 3:45pm From: Wes

It's his daughter. She makes $3.5 mil a year.

Mon. 12/10/07 3:46pm From: Markus

Mon. 12/10/07 3:46pm From: Charles

That's worth an hour of hate.

Mon. 12/10/07 3:47pm From: Math Hater

I hate the math question and I hate Billy Ray Cirus but I love you irwin! Welcome back!

Mon. 12/10/07 3:48pm From: jackie

Mon. 12/10/07 3:48pm From: Charles

Yes. Love Irwin, Hate Miley!

Mon. 12/10/07 3:48pm From: Parq

It's worth noting at this point that Imogene Coca is one great lady. Just sayin'.

Mon. 12/10/07 3:48pm From: sabrina

irwin--you have no special holiday plans?? i find that hard to believe,,

Mon. 12/10/07 3:49pm From: Wes

Hannah Montana Super Fantastic Holiday Special on TiVo if I had to wager....

Mon. 12/10/07 3:49pm From: Charles

Imogen Coca and Scott Walker are fantastic, IMO.

Mon. 12/10/07 3:51pm From: zoe

Mon. 12/10/07 3:56pm From: Charles

quite a take on Joy Division's "Transmission", here

Mon. 12/10/07 4:00pm From: Ike

Charles, have you heard Low's cover of "Transmission"?

I'm with Sadie, Tom, NGH and SM on Scott Walker. "Smells like old spice in here"... BWAH! I'll take Miley Cyrus over Scott Walker any day. OK, that's sort of like saying "I'll take asparagus in gelatin over brussel sprouts in gelatin any day" but still....

Great show!

Mon. 12/10/07 4:01pm From: north guinea hills

i love low's cover of transmission

Mon. 12/10/07 4:02pm From: Charles

@Ike: haven't heard it, but I'll be looking for it.
I like Scott Walker for all the wrong reasons, it's almost irritainment for me.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:02pm From: Parq

I'm with you, Charles. Christopher Lloyd sings Joy Division, yeah? Moving on, this Soul Coughing track sports one of my favorite grooves of all time.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:03pm From: Kelly from Chicago

galaxie 500's cover of ceremony is amazing!

Mon. 12/10/07 4:04pm From: Listener Dave

In a weird concidence, I happend to be reading Mike Doughty's blog right before the Soul Coughing song started. Creepy.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:04pm From: sadie

what ever happened to these guys?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:05pm From: Charles

@Kelly: I saw them perform it at the Riviera years ago and it was fantastic

Mon. 12/10/07 4:05pm From: Catarrh

They discovered soothing Hall's mentholyptus.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:06pm From: north guinea hills

there's something about this song i can identify w/... (soul coughing)

Mon. 12/10/07 4:06pm From: Charles

@sadie: They broke up in '91, and now there's Damon n' Naomi.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:08pm From: Charles

The drum track on that track was pretty compelling. It's the clipping.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:10pm From: Charles

"Shadow-Staffer" really gives Irwin's status some drama.

Legend of Irwin: Shadow-Staffer

Mon. 12/10/07 4:13pm From: googlemonkey

Shadow or Shadowy?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:15pm From: Charles

He called himself a "Shadow Staffer" a moment ago.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:18pm From: Charles

"Shadowy Staffer from a Shadowy Planet"?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:18pm From: Charles

Anyway, it's good to hear Irwin again.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:21pm From: Lewis

aahh, Jeremy Wallace - another "heard him first on WFMU" gem. Although, I have always found the connection with Irwin intriguing - wouldn't have been my first guess of DJ to play him. comments?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:21pm From: Wes

Man, this band was so much better before the goat showed up to sing vocals...and, this show has turned remarkably better since Billy Ray was crushed in the court of popular opinion.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:28pm From: Wes

Are you sure you want STOCKHAUSEN and not MOTORHEAD?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:28pm From: Doug

Motorhausen

Mon. 12/10/07 4:29pm From: harriet

i love fankie balck, he's so yummy, and doesn't smell like old spice

Mon. 12/10/07 4:29pm From: Parq

I saw the Pixies back in the day, and even bought the album with the monkey on the cover, and *still* have been trying for two decades to understand what the big deal is.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:29pm From: Hunker Bill

Motorhausen and Walkhead

Mon. 12/10/07 4:30pm From: Kelly from Chicago

i hear ya' harriet, mmmm

Mon. 12/10/07 4:31pm From: Charles

Yeah, I haven't figured the whole "Pixies hype" thing, either. Galaxie 500 was much better, IMO.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:34pm From: Listener Dave

I'm with you Parq. I saw the Pixies and Happy Mondays at some godawful club on Long Island (long story, my now-wife and I got dragged along with another couple who had free tickets) and Happy Mondays were flat out terrible and the Pixies were loud and boring.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:35pm From: north guinea hills

i'm actually going to dissent on this one, i actually like pixies, which i find odd. but honestly, i probably only voluntarily listen to them once every 9 months

Mon. 12/10/07 4:36pm From: Listener Dave

Oh yeah, and I think Galaxie 500 were a lot better too. Saw them a few times way back when. Absolutely hypnotic.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:36pm From: Charles

Even the Happy Mondays wonder how they got so big back in the day.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:36pm From: Nelson

am i really listening to wfmu? what is going on?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:38pm From: Nelson

all my friends say stop this dreadful song!

Mon. 12/10/07 4:38pm From: please god

MAKE IT STOP!

Mon. 12/10/07 4:38pm From: Charles

That... was a segue from Hell

Mon. 12/10/07 4:39pm From: Charles

and I love it still

Mon. 12/10/07 4:39pm From: north guinea hills

i dug the luke bryan (the redneck in me must like it).... and what a segue......

Mon. 12/10/07 4:41pm From: Ike

Yeah, he's definitely baiting us.

Yeah Charles, that segue was beyond incredibly bizarre. Yet it worked.

And I'm with NGH on the Pixies. They could kick Aerosmith's arse all up and down the streets of Boston anyway. IMO.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:42pm From: Nelson

feed me lots of drugs. . . . i cant handle the irony anymore

Mon. 12/10/07 4:43pm From: harriet

what ya lookin' for, maybe some earplugs ?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:44pm From: Charles

And now on to Raymond Scott! I wonder what will happen next.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:46pm From: Nelson

I'll take some Raymond Scott

Mon. 12/10/07 4:47pm From: Nelson

Just not Scott Walker

Mon. 12/10/07 4:47pm From: Charles

I stand corrected, it's only Scottish

Mon. 12/10/07 4:47pm From: ?

that last piece "scott" was amazing.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:49pm From: Charles

Pixie-schmixie

Mon. 12/10/07 4:51pm From: michael

zeppelin rocks harder than aerosmith

Mon. 12/10/07 4:52pm From: Ted

Praise the lord!

Mon. 12/10/07 4:52pm From: Charles

Ooh! Thanks for playing this earwax-melter. This kid rocks harder than aerosmith, zeppelin, and oasis!

Mon. 12/10/07 4:53pm From: Listener Dave

Rod and Todd Flanders have nothing on this kid.

Mon. 12/10/07 4:53pm From: Charles

Is this a young Tammy Fae?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:54pm From: michael

isn't this huckabee's theme song!?

Mon. 12/10/07 4:54pm From: north guinea hills

looks like we need a cardiologist (the asiaticos)

Mon. 12/10/07 4:55pm From: Ted

Tammy Fae Rocked!

Mon. 12/10/07 4:55pm From: Charles

maybe an optometrist, too

Mon. 12/10/07 4:59pm From: Parq

That's it, I'm calling the next CD "Maybe An Optometrist, Too".

Mon. 12/10/07 5:03pm From: Listener Mike

maybe something old and scratchy

Mon. 12/10/07 5:14pm From: north guinea hills

we should start talking about our dreams to irwin, he would just love that! (evil laugh)

Mon. 12/10/07 5:30pm From: Charles

This is pretty nice (I Hate Camera). Sweet synth textures!

Mon. 12/10/07 5:34pm From: dead dead dead

fukn genius

Mon. 12/10/07 5:56pm From: ~L

Hi Irwin,
I already have silences imposed by a tuner in need of repair, now you're just confusing me. Oh, last night at the Yo La Tengo Hanukkah show, one of the guys in Red Cross was wearing a Hannah Montana tee-shirt. I thought you'd appreciate that.

Mon. 12/10/07 5:58pm From: BZ

Mon. 12/10/07 6:00pm From: Parq

Many thanks for a great show, Ol' Pal I, from a fellow unabashed pop-head.

Mon. 12/10/07 6:01pm From: merv
