Listener comments!

  9:01am Andrew:

Hey Ken,
new Wire smokes!
Any band updates for the bar mitzvah?
  9:03am Doug:

Holy crap new Wire!
  9:05am Ken:

Don't get TOO excited about the new Wire. It's good, but not as great as their recent releases.
  9:11am Ken:

Wire was going to play the Bar Mitzvah tonight, but now the Bar Mitzvah needs to be postponed due to Andy's recent conversion to Rosicrucianism.
  9:16am Keith:

Even when Wire produces lukewarm material, it somehow ends up being catalogued as genius 15 years down the road.
  9:17am Ken:

I'd say the new Wire EP is better than Lukewarm, it just not completely on fire like Read and Burn 01.
  9:18am Melissa:

Hi, Ken. I'm feeling slutty but anxious today. Will your program have anything to offer me?
  9:20am Ken:

Hi Melissa, funny you should ask. I do have some material which will be especially sppealing to the emerging Slutty, Anxious Female (SAF) demographic. Coming up in half an hour or so,
  9:21am Schvety:

Holy crap, new Einsturzende Neubauten!?!
This makes me feel slutty but anxious. And greasy and verklempt also.
  9:23am Keith:

Very good, Ken. Your management expertise has uncovered the secret of attracting the coveted SAF demographic. Commercial radio is going to snatch you up.
  9:24am Andrew:

Isn't this LCD track on "The Sound of Silver" with vocals? "Something Great Has Gone"?
  9:25am Melissa:

I am part of the SAFFFF demo. Slutty, Anxious, Floundering Free-Form Female.
  9:28am Parq:

Never mind commercial radio. When are aspiring presidential candidates going to start courting the crucial SAF voting block? ("And I will fight tirelessly in Congress for tax credits toward the purchase of black lace security blankets!")
  9:29am zoe:

huh, I think I too might be part of of this SAF/SAFFFF demographic
  9:30am Schvety:

Snatchity-snatch.
  9:33am Andrew:

Have there been any conclusive correlations drawn between the anxiety and sluttishness?
  9:34am nh_dave:

Actually Ken it is the inverse. Sound of Silver took a chunk of 45:33 and put vocals to it.

I like the vocal version more oddly. Used to run to it all the time which was interesting.
  9:36am Hatch:

Clinton's pollster is also targeting "Married couples who met on the internet." No joke.
  9:40am nh_dave:

The level of pandering up here in NH is pretty funny every four years when our humble little state is relevant for a minute or two. You can literally meet up with some of the candidates at local residents bake sales and the like.

It almost makes you feel that they care.

More RX! Woohoo!
  9:41am cheri:

heeey ken,,good morning,,,how was you're week??
  9:43am Schvety:

I think anxiety and sluttishness feed on each other. For instance, when I'm feeling anxious, I feel slutty, and feeling slutty makes me anxious. It's rather a thrill, either way.
  9:45am Ken:

Just trying to keep myself on my toes. As you were...
  9:46am proplox from florida:

oddly enough, since both reps and dems have deemed Florida's "earlier" primaries as non-binding, there's virtually no ads or campaigning here. kinda eerie. you should be very envious.

much more gong, by the way
  9:47am Listener Randy:

The official band of single anxious females? I vote for Pylon.
  9:50am Ken:

If Slutty Anxious Females are defined as Hillary supporters and Hillary's official campaign song is some Celine Dion song, then doesn't that make Celine Dion the poster girl for SAFs?
  9:50am SAF #77:

Oh, Ken! Pleeeeeeezzzeee play M Train!
  9:52am Andrew:

R.I.P. Lady Jaye

This new Psychic TV is strong despite some of the condescending reviews by the internet cognoscenti. The transposition of the woot woots from "Sympathy for the Devil" are always welcome.

Secondly, my sluttishness is the precursor to my anxiety.
  9:52am cheri:

ken,,i'm just wondering why don't you play any blues on your show?? with artists such as jon hendricks,,slim harpo,,howlin wolf,,etc
  9:56am Andrew:

BLUESHAMMER!
  9:57am Vicki:

I think I'd be far more interested in knowing WHY Ken plays what he does :)
  9:57am Ken:

NH Dave - You should get a few fellow New Hampshire-ites and sell your collective votes on eBay. You might have to phrase it carefully so the eBay doesn't pull it though.
  9:58am proplox:

39 Clocks
48 Chairs
I'm envisioning a trend here.
By my calculations, 57 Curtains within the hour
  10:00am Listener Dave from NH:

I'd consider getting in on that action too, but I'm afraid that the insane LaRouche-ites would buy my vote up and there are depths that even I can't sink to.
I was amused - I was out in Burlington, VT to see Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings this weekend and for the first time, I saw "GOOGLE RON PAUL" print-outs all over the place. His supporters should Google primary 2008 to find out where those posters might make a bit of a difference.
  10:01am jamesie:

from one psychle slut to another I salute thee
  10:02am cheri:

ken?? i think you SHOULD play some blues on you're show,,,
  10:02am Schvety:

how exciting!
  10:05am Richard:

JCC! Saw him a few times in the UK a loooong time ago. It always cracked me up - trying to bring poetry to a usually very unreceptive audience. But he didn't seem to care and I think he may have even had a few singles in the (UK) charts.
Ken thanks for the "event" last night - the Ken/Andy bit was funny! American Pie anyone?
  10:07am cheri:

OK i'm detecting a pattern here,,,,
  10:07am nh_dave:

Oh the Ron Paul supporters are great. There is a guy down the street from me that has a huge "Ron Paul, RLOVEution" sign. Thing is like 10X12 on his front yard.

Seriously tempted to toss my vote at him in the primary just to keep the humor alive a bit longer.
  10:08am Keith:

Suzi Quatro for president!!
  10:09am Ron Paula:

Wasn't Suzi Quatro on some Seventies TV show?
  10:10am Andrew:

The RLOVEution has already been co-opted by Lenny Kravitz for his huge comeback!

Is that Little Annie in there with the Runaways, this makes me tranquil in my slutsiness.
  10:11am jon:

happy days...i think
  10:13am pat:

Suzi was "Leather Tuscadero" on Happy Days....right?
  10:15am Listener Dave from NH:

If you were as big of a monster as I am, you could make your own "GOOGLE RON PAUL AND STORMFRONT" posters and plaster them all over the neighborhood.
Too much like for work, considering he'll pull fewer votes than Stephen Colbert.
  10:21am hjmaiere:

Yes, Diebold will see to that.
  10:22am cheri:

ken,,i take it you won't play any blues on you're show,,,::sigh::
  10:23am Ken:

Regarding last week's complaints about the auto-refresh feature on these here comments, Kenzo has made the comments refresh every 60 seconds instead of every 30, and he will soon add a "pause" and "resume" auto-refresh feature so that people can catch up on old comments and then let them resume the autoamtic refreshing.
  10:26am (NV)S(NV)AF:

Good Kenzo idea.

cheri-- there's loads already.
  10:26am dei xhrist (NH):

Thanks Dave/NH - I DID just google Ron Paul & Stormfront. Some of my neighbors are Ron Paulers, yet 2nd or 3rd generation emigres to America. And, the best kept house on their block belongs to a Latino family.
  10:28am Nena:

Nein und neinzig Lauftballoons? Ich hope so
  10:30am Doug:

http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?genre=blues
  10:34am cheri:

ken?? you're not even listening to me,,are you???
  10:35am Nena:

Lena Zavaroni, that's blues, there you go
  10:37am SueB:

This song is disturbing
  10:38am cannonball:

cheri, my guess is all requests/genre questions will fall on deaf ears. Its just not what this forum is for. Hit up the archives if you want some blues.
  10:41am Ken:

Sorry Cheri, you're just comin' at me from left field. E-mail me off playlist if you want a more full explanation - ken at wfmu dot org
  10:44am jonathan:

yes! monster noises!
  10:45am nEGATOR:

KEN! LISTEN TO ME! i'M WRITING IN CAPS!
  10:45am dave in vermont:

it's so intersting to me how we who listen online and follow the playlist/comments have such a very different expereince of the show than if we were driving around hearing the airwaves broadcast
  10:45am Vivian:

Good morning Ken and fellow WFMU listeners! Is this the Muppets scatting? Speaking of which, anyone heard of a Muppets UNCUT special to air in the next few weeks?
  10:46am SueB:

gee - Tina has the pants on TODAY
  10:46am SueB:

it took me 3 times to post that b/c of the math. what is wrong with me?
  10:47am dave from baltimore:

woah... year of the slutty anxious female.... wtf?
  10:48am Doug:

Haha! I thought Melissa had made that up, and then I googled "slutty anxious female." I'll be danged! Ken,, play some AOR,,
  10:50am Mark:

SueB, perhaps you're feeling extra slutty and anxious today
  10:52am dei xhrist:

they're only "practicing" medicine, as mom always said.
  10:53am Negator:

Collect up those ear crystals and sprinkle them on a bong hit! You'll thank me, Ken!
  10:53am pfapfap:

Ken says "aughts"! I've been trying for a decade to get others to say it. Well, at least since '02, when I could say "back in aught-one..."
  10:54am -max-:

WFMU! Where unusual maladies are diagnosed by our own listeners!!
  10:57am north guinea hills:

i've been saying naught, as in naught -7
  10:57am hjmaiere:

This song sounds suspiciously like the blues.
  10:58am Jim T.:

Hey Ken! What are you doing for the inner ear thing?
I think my wife has it.
  10:58am Listener David:

Howard Stern also was cured after reading Dr. Sarno's book. He used to rave about it on his show.
  10:59am SueB:

it seems pfapfap has trouble with math too. more SAF syndrome?
  11:01am cheri:

ken,,,even though he's not here i want to give a shout out to mta tony,,thank soo much ken,,
  11:03am John from Oslo:

BPPV?! Read all about it: http://www.tchain.com/otoneurology/disorders/bppv/bppv.html

Imagine Ken, you might be able to listen to radio airwaves, just like the first radios - using your inner ear crystals! Go patent that Icrystal Ken!
  11:03am nh_dave:

It is funny, I have never actually listened to FMU over the air. Always been an internet streamer (and literally over a decade ago my company pitched FMU to do the streaming). Even when I lived in NYC it was streaming. (yes I mouse of today to keep things going hehehehe)

I do think that the experience would be much different. The thing I have always loved about FMU is the strange community of which I am part of that really tries to understand the odd music LOL
  11:06am Negator:

Slutty anxious female song, Patti Smith's, "Rock-n-Roll Nigger" The ultimate sluttyanxious female song!
  11:07am Torbjorn (from Haugesund):

I have listened to the terrestrial broadcast just once, in January, when I was over there.
It was such a life-changing experience that I videotaped it and uploaded it to youtube, actually, hehe ..
How I do love the internet, and the fact that it brings me WFMU !
John from Oslo, finnes det noen andre norske lyttere, eller ? .. Jeg har enda ikke moett noen.
  11:07am Ken:

It was listener Burt who done diagnosed my problem: "Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo" The Epley Maneuver is the treatment, basically hanging your head upside down a few times a day.
  11:08am SueB:

My audio prof put that song on a project compilation for the students. in Jersey City.
  11:12am Lukas:

I think that CNN news bit is bogus. My inside sources tell me that Miranda July, Karen Finley and Sandra Bernhard all support Mike Gravel.
  11:13am SueB:

R U upside down right now?
  11:14am John from Oslo:

Hi Torbjorn. I can't tell how many Norwegians are listening. Maybe Ken has some stats from the streams he'd like to share.
  11:15am Parq:

Following up on Doug's comment, I am astonished and a bit chagrined to find that the "Slutty Anxious Female voting block" is a pre-existing concept that has already been noted in the major news media. Naiively, I thought that, along with the other commenters back around 9:15 EST, I was just making it up. Reaffirms the old saw about the paucity of satire in the face of modern reality.
  11:18am Vivian:

Parq, you used the term '...the old saw'. That is the second time I've seen that phrase in the last 24 hours. What does it mean when one says 'the old saw'?
  11:20am Listener Dave from NH:

I thought that the comments on CNN were just some writers for "The Daily Show" surreptitiously breaking the writer's strike and ghost-writing some high comedy for the network.
Do you think that the people on the news networks ever stop for a minute to think about the words that are coming out of their mouths? I'm embarrassed for them.
  11:20am Chad:

Does Autor de Lucie remind anyone else of the Sundays?
  11:21am cheri:

geeeeeeesh i wish tony was here,,he'd know what to do,,,,,
  11:22am Ken:

I am shocked and appaled that some of you think that I would make up that "Slutty Anxious Females" business. You can't make shit like that up! I found it at Media Matters - mediamatters.org - my one stop shop for all media psychoses.
  11:27am Dough:

I think "old saw" is synonymous with "old saying."
  11:28am Negator:

This sounds like Fatty Jubbo!
  11:31am pfapfap:

Will the hooker still be there?
  11:31am Parq:

From something called phrases.org.UK:

Main Entry: saw
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English sawe, from Old English "sagu" discourse; akin to Old High German & Old Norse "saga" tale, Old English "secgan" to say
Date: before 12th century

Parq appends: I found it on the Internet so it must be true.
  11:38am Andrew:

Etymological refuse.
However, I may have to adopt the "saw".

Meanwhile, this "SAF" business is very troubling.
  11:40am Jim T.:

Ken, thanks for the info on the inner ear problem. I will have my wife try hanging her head upside down (at home).
ps-Andy is a baby
  11:40am cheri:

tell me....will you consider getting THE SIMPSONS MOVIE when it comes out ken??
  11:41am Ron D:

WIRE!!! Read and burn 03 is great stuff!!!

Thanks Ken!!!
  11:45am Andrew:

All hail the rechristening of the Rosicrucianists!

This Wire is a bit less the smokestack lightning I proclaimed earlier, it has that 80's English lyrical preoccupation with cataloguing absurdities in that "We Didn't Start the Fire" type way with an emphasis on morbid curios. I dig it though, the vocals are almost goth in a faux Transylvanian accent way.
  11:46am vivian:

Thank you for the explanation Parq and thank you for the WIRE Ken!
  11:46am Ken:

Cheri, please dont become the first person ever banned from playlist commenting.

  11:55am Doug:

Speaking of that, Ken, I've been really, really surprised at the almost total lack of abuse and idiotic behavior in the playlist comments. It's remarkable.
  11:57am Lukas:

Doug, remember that only people who can solve advanced math problems are allowed to comment here.
