Pamela:
OK, I'm getting it started... Friday morning is one of my favorite times because of this show...
Fri. 8/3/07 9:29am
Trish:
A fine way to start the day.
Fri. 8/3/07 9:30am
Derek:
Good morning. I definitely loved the reggae block there.
Fri. 8/3/07 9:32am
Doug:
Several of the cuts in the last set are from the massive Studio One collection of MP3s given to me by your fellow listener, the famed "Hugo from Norway." Blessings unto you, Hugo.
Doug
Fri. 8/3/07 9:35am
Doug S.:
This show makes my yucky desk at work very happy, thank you!
Fri. 8/3/07 9:42am
kris:
best morning show on radio. Cheers Doug!
Fri. 8/3/07 9:55am
Hugo:
Re. the Ogun catalogue:
A couple of cds on the way, and that's it. I will do my best to keep Ogun on the air, as it were, courtesy of Doug, of course ...
Greetings from the West Coast in the east to the East Coast in the west ...
Fri. 8/3/07 9:57am
Doug:
Got any whales floating by out there in Bergen, Hugo?
Fri. 8/3/07 10:01am
Hugo:
Not exactly on our doorstep in Bergen, but along the coast, for sure ... but with average rainfall around here, you can never be too sure ...
Fri. 8/3/07 10:18am
Jessi Hance:
mmm, Cuban son gets me out of bed with a smile.
Fri. 8/3/07 10:36am
Pamela:
I could use a bluegrass set.. :-)
Fri. 8/3/07 10:38am
Paul Sherratt:
Cuban son gets me of bed with a smile ...
Doesn't that breach the bizarre Helms-Burton law !
Fri. 8/3/07 10:39am
Rebecca:
Dave Burland is putting me in mind of Tommy Makem, who died Wednesday. I'd love to hear something from Tommy this morning...
Fri. 8/3/07 10:39am
Doug:
Pamela, we could all use a little bluegrass. Got some tunes coming up that you might call pre-bluegrass-ish.
Fri. 8/3/07 10:40am
Stacey:
Good Morning from Atl. Caught the tail end of your Cuban set, however loved what I heard. Keep it coming!
Also, a belated thanks for the La Lupe request fulfilled on my b-day a few weeks ago. A great start to a b-day weekend which was all I could ask for and more.
Fri. 8/3/07 10:44am
Doug:
Stacey, I hear PBS is going to be airing a La Lupe documentary. Don't know when, but I'll be sure to announce it when it's scheduled. Let us all now pray that Ken Burns has nothing to do with it!
Fri. 8/3/07 10:45am
Jessi:
Paul: I certainly hope so! If wfmu can't cross stupid political barriers then there is no hope at all for the human race,
Fri. 8/3/07 10:50am
Neil:
Ahh, Wizz Jones. Does anyone know of any comprehensive anthologies or boxed sets of his recordings?
Fri. 8/3/07 10:56am
Paul Sherratt:

Pamela:
GREAT!
Fri. 8/3/07 11:00am
Hugo:
Yes, Michael Nesmith did some fine records with the First National Band, featuring Red Rhodes. Just played one of them the other day. Look out for his version of Patsy Cline's "I fall to pieces"!
Fri. 8/3/07 11:02am
Doug:
Read all about the great Red Rhodes here:

Fri. 8/3/07 11:09am
Sandy:
Very nice show!
Fri. 8/3/07 11:22am
Brian Sanders:
August is Hector Lavoe month at faniarecords.com, it doesn't get better than that. Just heard that Willie Colon is playing his last live date ever in London next week. By the way, did you get to Womad this year, Paul?
Fri. 8/3/07 11:29am
Hugo:
A very similar "feel" of the Coursil session to the Jimmy Lyons session for the same label - with the same lineup of alto sax, trumpet, bass and drums. Not the usual blow-out, but more spacey and reflective, I thought.
In my view, one of the better releases on that label (well. both of them). What do you think, Doug?
Fri. 8/3/07 11:29am
Jared:
Jacques Coursil....very nice very nice!
Fri. 8/3/07 11:30am
Doug:
I am hopeful (but kinda scared) about the upcoming Hector Lavoe bio pic starring Marc Antony and Jennifer Lopez. I SO hope it doesn't suck.
Fri. 8/3/07 11:31am
Paul Sherratt ( UK ):
Brian,
Yes !!
And it was absolutely tremendous.
My festival wardrobe consists of a selection of wfmu t-shirts. People were constantly reading my chest ( not lips) The " Eat Flaming Death Fascist Media Pigs " shirt day was particularly engaging.
WOMAD btw, US folk, is a too-good-to be-true festival held each year in the UK & other places around the globe.
There used to be one in Seattle ... don't know what happened to that.
Fri. 8/3/07 11:40am
Matt:
Marc Anthony as Hector Lavoe.....words can't express my dismay......
Fri. 8/3/07 11:50am
Sean Padilla:
This Yosuke Yamashita Trio song is insane! Where can I find more of their stuff?
Fri. 8/3/07 11:54am
Jared:
They are definitely giving the drummer some in this Yosuke Yamashita song
Fri. 8/3/07 1:12pm
Doug:
Sean, old vinyl copies of that Yamashita record go for big bucks. I found a copy for download (free) here:

It is fantastic.
