Playlist for Sound and Safe with Trent - April 9, 2007

Mondays 6am - 9am (Web-only) on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

I began to start to listen to lyrics a few months ago. But most of the time I just can't hear them or understand them (bad hearing) and when I do or when they print a lyrics sheet they make me wanna puke so I just play some body music instead mostly. The body music hopefully has a girl singing over it in a sweet voice and she sounds like a lot of fun. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111 ;):):);))

Artist Track Album Label Format Comments Year New
Masayuki Tanaka  Katamari on the Rocks   Katamari Damacy Soundtrack  Namco
Pop Levi  Mournin' Light         Of Super Numeri
Biz Markie  Biz Beat (Original 12" Version)   Make the Music With Your Mouth, Biz  Cold Chillin'  CD    2007  *
Diaz  One Two   Le Blond  Kailash
Emilie Simon  Never Fall In Love

sarolta zalatnay  Sracok o Sracok   S/T  B-Music  CD    1971 / 2007  *
Breakwater  Release the Beast         Robot Rock - are you ready for August 9th?
JJ Cale  Ride Me High (Joakim Edit)

vs.

The Vinny Club  It's Not You It's 0F         0F means BLACK AND WHITE. Thanks listener!!! I forgot to ask what your name was.
Whys  Surf Addict   Innocence is Bliss: A Female Frenzy of Sensational Sounds  Dionysus  CD  Does it count as a "chick band" if you don't hear her sing? How about if you can only hear her rock???? Then it's like "chick ROCK"  2007
Moose  Can't Get Enough of You
Poni Hoax  Budapest   Budapest EP  Tigersushi  12"    2005
Christian Bruhn  Surf Fascination (Part 1)         I wonder what Part 2 sounds like? Part 2 usually isn't as good as part 1, or is some shitty ambient rework of Part 1, and I could even imagine this more as this is based on some "nature sounds" thing. He certainly isn't "fascinated" by the concept of album cover art:

The Blow  Hey Boy   Poor Aim: Love Songs  K  CD    2007  *
Elizabeth Mitchell  Three Little Birds
The Knife  The Bridge   Hannah Med H Soundtrack      Does it count as a "chick band" if you don't hear her sing? How about if you can only hear her rock???? Then it's like "chick ROCK"

Panda Bear  Good Girl / Carrots   Person Pitch  Paw Tracks  CD  OK I figured out why I don't like most new songs where some "dudes" sing, and usually only have tolerance for female voices, these new guys, they take themselves TOO SERIOUSLY and then it ends up sounding like SHIT, but this guy kind of knows how to take it right down the middle, not too serious, not too playful...yeah...right there, feel me? It's all LALALALALA LAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaOOOOOOOEHHHHEOOOOOOOO eeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YAaaaaAAA but then you can obviously tell he's serious at the same time.....kind of....  2007  *
Jackson  Utopia   Utopia 12"  Sound of Barclay
Sissy Wish  DWTS

Blonde Redhead  Spring and By Summer Fall   23  4AD  CD    2007  *
Late of the Pier  Space the Woods (C90s Remix)         See like this is the perfect example. I would not play the "regular" version of this song because it probably sucks but the remix treatment kind of makes fun of him for saying that "suicide is in his veins" and then surrounds it by like 8 minutes of him NOT singing. Perf!
Of Montreal  Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse   Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?  Polyvinyl  CD  About prescription drugs!  2007  *
Rainbow Maze  Fizzy Peach   ice cream truckin'  Mulatta  CD  Remixes of the Mr. Softee song, put together by Twink  2007  *

House of Black Dress  No One to Care For     Fresh Meat  12"    2006
Rihanna f/ Jay Z  Umbrella         That synth is fuckin' NASTY!!! You can stay under my umbrella ANY DAY Rih!
Bjork  Earth Intruders   Volta      New Bjork, with Timbaland. It sounds like her old albums thank GOD, I was getting really sick of that other stuff. Check this out too:

Bjork  Alta Mira   S/t (1971)      Old Bjork, with her parents. Or young Bjork. Whatever. This is a better quality MP3 though. What a strange history thing.
Cub  My Chinchilla
Billy Bragg  A New England         I originally heard the Groovie Ghoulies (mid 90s Lookout! pop-punk band, awesome) version of this, and I'd say they're both about as good as each other. It was on purple vinyl, the GG album
Gore Gore Girls  Fox In a Box
RTX  Dude Love   Western Xterminator  Drag City  CD    2007  *
Ringo Deathstarr  Some Kind of Sad
Goodiepal  My Robotic Skills have Failed (Gamers in Exile invert)   Narc Beacon  Ski-pp  CD  I think this is a remix and I think it's called an invert, this is a realy throwback to 2001 when you can't understand a fucking thing about the album from the notes, or it's just really confusing, I'm going to play like some Autechre or something next or Gescom or something like that  2007  *

The Mary Onettes  Lost
Squarepusher  A Journey to Reedham (4am Mix)   Big Loada  Warp  CD    1998 or so
Mark Ronson  God Put A Smile Upon Your Face
Mylo  In My Arms   Destroyrocknroll  RCA / Breastfed  CD    2006

Strange Idols  She's Going to Let You Down Again

Trent! You have a regular show now! All right! Groovy. I will be checking out this archive shortly. But hey, since you took Black Ops' place on the schedule, I hope you realize this means you have to speak on the mic with some marbles in your mouth. (yaw haw haw)

Actually I have used marbles for every single show I've done on WFMU. Kind of like those donuts they put around baseball bats to make you swing faster. Just wait til I take them out. It will be like Ken Griffey Jr. in studio B, but with more beats. Thanks for LISTENING! You are the best.
