The lazy calm at the week's start. A few live performances included, but mainly music with an ear tilted toward string-driven things. (Visit homepage.)

Interview and performance by David Hykes

Starting things off on a beautiful, otherworldly note is David Hykes, founder of Harmonic Chant and the Harmonic Presence work, an Enlightenment-dedicated body of primordial wisdom practices, including the universal sacred music music called Harmonic Chant, as well as meditative awareness training and healing harmonization. David is a composer, singer, world and intraworld traveller in a stay-at-om universe, but was here for a special, intimate concert and kirtan with Krishna Das to benefit The Breathing Project on November 16th in NYC. We chatted a bit and he performed a chant live in the studio.

performance by Botanica

Led by erstwhile Firewater co-conspirator and international piano man Paul Wallfisch, Botanica makes punk rock chamber music for the 21st century. Bridging the gap between Secret Machines and The Dresden Dolls, Botanica produces gritty, epic, sexy music that is neither blind to politics nor ignorant of romance. Called the sonic equivalent of an Aki Kaurismaki film by Intro Magazine (Germany), Botanica's music was also recently described in the New Yorker as "...trafficking in sonic noir with an undercurrent of sinewy menace...sinister sophisticates providing the perfect soundtrack to the after-hours, urban experience." Botanica played a live set just prior to a show at Joe's Pub with musical pals Edison Woods.
