Playlist for The Evan "Funk" Davies Show - October 10, 2006

Mondays 11pm - 2am on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

Starting with the 70s -- it could be a classic (or obscure) punk rocker, a forgotten disco diva, a long-unheard hit record, or none of these. What happens next depends on what's in the WFMU new bin and whether I remember my records from home. Tune in and find out! You'll even hear a live band once in a while.

October 10, 2006: dedicated to my late high school pal Jimmy Mack (aka Jim McIntyre), without whom i would not be here this evening
Some people have an uncle or aunt, or an older sibling, who they can point to as the person who got them to start listening to cool music. For me, it was one of my best friends in high school: Jim McIntyre, later known as Jimmy Mack.

Jimmy was an intern at WBCN in Boston and later became their music director. He was the first person who turned me on to bands that are still among my all-time favorites today: the Stranglers, Ultravox, Television, the Dictators, Cheap Trick... the list goes on and on. He shaped my musical taste for a lifetime.

Jimmy died of AIDS in 1986. There have been countless times since then that I've wished he was still here so I could tell him about a great new record I'd heard, or he could tell me about his new favorites. I'm dedicating this show, my first on the regular weekly schedule, to him.
