Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from January 6, 2023 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Why would any producer think that "Losing My Mind" would be a great tune for a crooner to croon??

KWilde, if you are still reading. I apologize that for some reason Bob of Big Planet Noise thought that I had requested Tee Set. He had commented about it to me on another program and I was confused and made a joking reply that probably reinforced his misremembering who requested it. That night (Dec. 12, just, looked it up) between the huge number of comments made on that playlist and being busy at home I didn't support that it was you, not me that requested it. I know, not a big deal, you got to hear something from that band, but has been bothering me that I didn't speak up that night.

That is the best explanation I have heard. Now I can go back to wondering why anyone thought Ella Fitzgerald should sing a Beatles song.

Bronwyn, regarding your Adams as WFMU station manager dream, no news, real or fake, for at least 2 hours before bedtime.

While no one - and I mean no one - leads the midcentury Capitol lifestyle like I do, and my heart did a little dance when BB intro'ed the concept tonight - this is going to have to wait for the archives this week for me. A new Philly bistro has opened up on the site of Ye Olde Boot and Saddle, where my girlfriends used to go pick up sailors in another era, and they are presenting one of my favorrite avant-garde duos tonight. White tie as we slum in South Philly? What will be my first martini?

A toast to you TonyR, as I don my headset and get ready for another work shift.

I read about Solar Myth opening-connected to Ars Nova, No? I like Ars Nova, though the drive to Philly is a bit long from Central Joisey (though, it can be similar to a trip to NYC, when you figure in parking or subway to the venue you're going to. And it's much less of a headache).
Anyway, enjoy; hope to get there at some point.
